Apple's iPhone Ultra Crease Fix Set for Android Foldables Next Year

I would be much more worried about damage from debris getting stuck between the two sides. Not sure why the "crease" is such a big deal.

A crease catches and reflects light at different angles from the rest of the screen. That is a big deal.

Just ask anyone who hates "the notch" about how an "imperfect design" makes them feel.

The notch doesn't bother me at all, but a visible crease surely would!

It is just copying the UTG from Samsung fold 8 and fold 8 ultra.. read up on that tech and it's the same thing, just branded for Apple.. I bought the 1TB ultra and it looks really nice, I didn't want to get the regular Fold because Apple is coming out with the same thing, and wanted something different. With my battery tweaks, I get 13 hours SOT (deep doze, and others), which beats out the iphone 17 (and I'm guessing 18) pro max, because you can't change things on Apple side.

Apple doesn't just do "rebranding", sorry. They are deeply involved in each major component, and the screen is definitely one of those!

This line is getting old. Everyone copies. Apple is no different. In the past, many copied Apple because they were and are leaders in the tech community. But, Apple has also copied many things from other manufactures. I copy things in my line of work and others have copied what I do. That's how the world works.

So torn about buying the foldable. A two-in-one iPhone/iPad mini would be great. Guess we'll have to see how the execution really turns out. I really kind of want one, but a friend of mine who's an Android user gave up his Pixel Fold after only like 8 months.

Those who laughed at Samsung and Google's foldable phones for years will race to buy one simply because it has the Apple stamp on it. The crease will still be there but people will swear they can't notice it or feel it. I have a Pixel Fold as my work phone and I use it closed 90% of the time. I believe the majority of people who have used a folding phone are not that excited about Apple's version.

Mark Gurman says the Ultra still has a visible crease, "comparable to Samsung", so I'm not all that hyped about this.

There's a lot of advantages being an early adopter of new form factors and technologies. Especially when one is relaxed and accepting of the fact there will be pros and cons like any other product.

Having owned a vast number of smartphones running on a variety of platforms, the folding phone experience has been enjoyable and well worth putting up with certain characteristics like the typical crease found on current foldable phones.

Those who are addicted to criticizing the crease, often are guessing, having never owned one and therefore have cheated themselves out of the amazing advantages of the form factor.

However like any other product, folding phones aren't for everyone, if it doesn't fit your workflow or meet your personal preferences then it’s not the phone for you.

For my workflow it’s ideal, yet I had no idea till I tried it. As the saying goes, nothing ventured nothing gained.

technically this will sit in the lineup above the pro, so pro features+folding etc would make sense

Yes, it’s very much going to start looking like the iPod line.
Technically, the iPod touch was the more capable device, but it was One of the worst iPods for actual music listening.
Meanwhile, the iPod classic was made explicitly for music listening, and was the best at it. Most amount of storage, longest audio battery life, best DAC, easiest to navigate through music library, so on and so on.
Think of the iPhone’s pro and fold the same way, the fold will technically be the best content consumption, multitasking and productivity device in the lineup, but the pro will always have the best camera just because of how physics work.
