... badly.

By that logic, Mobile phones had been 'done'. Which correct, they had been. Only they were not Smartphones, nor were they Smart at all.

The watch has been done, correct; for many years by pioneering companies with unbelievable mechanical design. The Smartwatch is a different device & certainly not a SamSCUm Galaxy Gear.

It should have a full band IGZO display with a centralised gyroscope so where ever your wrist is - up or down - the display can be calibrated so the display can be viewed from any angle.

Is the tech out there to do that? Dunno.

Seriously? That's your argument for why Apple should so a watch?

----------

Tablets, smartphones, laptops, mp3-players, they all had been done prior to Apple's entrance to the market.

No.....

Your comparison is way off.

----------

MP3 player was done too.. and so was tablet and smartphone.. Who remembers those products now? ;)

You're just repeating the same nonsense as everyone else. I got the same fanboy response from a dozen others already.

You guys keep repeating the same thing, but Cell phones are a huge need and they sucked before Apple. Tablets didn't really exist and Apple did a good job with it. There's little reason for a watch. I'm sure Apple will sell a lot, but it will die down, and not be as successful as some of their previous products.

Well that sums it up, because YOU said it will die down and not be successful Apple needs to forget the entire project, I mean, how could a multi-billion dollar company know better than you..a forum lurker? ;)

That's not at all what I said. You don't know what Apple is even doing. You don't know who I am.

Oh what I wrote was not what you said? Verbatim, the iWatch will die down. You didn't say that? You are a registered forum member on MR, that makes you a forum lurker. As far as who you are personally, I never commented on that. It doesn't matter who you are, you don't know who I am or who anyone is here.

The point I was making is you were stating an opinion as fact in response to something I wrote. Also it's just that some people here (you in particular) are so quick to say something will fail (or will have short-term success) that Apple does and they generally bring back a near dying breed and it make it a long-standing success. They've had a 10 out of 10 success rate on bringing back to life products and services that were becoming either a thing of the past or were just never quite successful.

I do have to wonder how the Nike Fuelband has affected Apple's iWatch plan.

Not sure why. I bought the Se fuelband at the weekend after my jawbone up died and returned it after 2 days. The pebble has garnered more of my interest as a replacement on my wrist than going for say a shine, but i suspect it would look hugely silly on my tiny wrist.
Probably waiting into next year until either the fitbit force turns up in the UK, or this iWatch, if there is indeed a smaller version for smaller wrists...

Aren't you in a band?

Probably until you argue your point well.

Seems to be you do know who Portishead is after all.

An iWatch is not the best use of Apple resources. See: Pebble, Samsung.

It doesn't matter who you are, you don't know who I am or who anyone is here.

I never claimed to know you or categorize you as such.

The point I was making is you were stating an opinion as fact in response to something I wrote.

Technically, it is a fact they are "following" by creating a watch. Pebble did it first. I never said Apple can't do it better. I think it's very obvious they will as the Pebble kind of sucks.

Also it's just that some people here (you in particular) are so quick to say something will fail (or will have short-term success) that Apple does and they generally bring back a near dying breed and it make it a long-standing success.

Again, I never said it would fail. My personal opinion is that I don't think it will be successful, but I've never stated that as a fact. I can say what I want, but comparing this to people who said the same thing about the iPhone or iPod is pretty dumb. I'm not those people, and I never said those things would fail.

They've had a 10 out of 10 success rate on bringing back to life products and services that were becoming either a thing of the past or were just never quite successful.

They have a decent success rate, but they have some products that are not up to par. To say they have a 10 out of 10 is not close to the truth.

I still can't quite see the point of having an iWatch. When I see people at the mall, I see almost no teenagers/young people even wearing watches in the first place - they all are either holding smartphones or you can see the bulge from a smartphone in their pockets. I still wear a watch, but that's mostly habit and because I check it for timing when I'm cooking dinner.

The weirdest incident was some girl about 17 or so, walking along in the mall, with very very short shorts and her phone in, of all places, stuck down the front center of her shorts. The only thing I could think to myself was "Does she have it set to vibrate on ring?" , followed by other images that I can't mention here.

2 sizes? Big and small? Apple is giving is giving us a choice?

Just like with the iPad, iMac, MBPs, MBAs, they should offer 2 sizes for their iPhone as well.

So please :apple:, release already the male Version of the iPhone :p

I should keep this comment for when it transforms people's lives, but I'm not that interested. First of all it's not a watch, it's a wearable device that happens to display time, and give notifications. The real reason they are making it is to track biometrics. As an example of it saving someone's life: elderly person goes into cardiac arrest, the watch instantly sends alerts to family members so they can contact 911, or it sends alerts directly to emergency services. If it accurately tracks blood glucose non-invasively, it will literally be vital to diabetics, but not just them, any smart person trying to lose weight. Moreover it could save diabetics lives, if their blood sugar is getting too low, instantly vibrate, and alert them to raise it.

Hahaha whatever. You are talking about some future use which is NOT what these things are. That is a medical device. They would have to sell it as a medical device. Not just some electronic gadget. Two COMPLETELY different things. You can't just go out and make a blood glucose monitor without FDA involvement which is a major hassle. This thing (if it ever becomes real) will simply be an ugly ass watch that gives you email, texts, phone calls, plays music and photos and maybe some other stuff that you can already do with your phone except in a small size to fit on your wrist. It will be a flop. There are some things that just don't need to be 're-invented'.
