Kind of not the point I'm trying to make :) and it was in an Apple leather case.

I hear you, just don't understand the logic. Clearly your wife has trouble take care of her phones so investing in a great case and/or insurance upfront for any phone would protect the investment. Buying her a cheaper plastic phone isn't going to help matters much.

I hope they fork over the cash to use Mondaine's watch face.

Apple did pay $21 million to license the Swiss Railways clock face for the iPhone/iPad.

It'd be interesting to know if Mondaine has an exclusive on using it for watches, though.

this needs to be something that you can workout with not a fashion statement. If you cannot work out in it, then all of the health tracking is pointless.

Ha. Make it double-sided. One is the elegant watch face with leather band showing, and the other is the sport face with a nylon band side. Just flip it around to decide which one to wear outward :)

Waterproof + inductive charging + no ports

My dream trinity for the iWatch

  • Waterproof (or at least water resistant)
  • Inductive charging (no one wants to plug in a designer watch)
  • No ports (Bluetooth/WiFi only)

Apple needs to reinvite / revolutionize the use of the watch - not mimic the current genre of expensive jewelry that happens to keep time.

Apple doesn't "need" to do anything, but their shareholders would like them to mint more revenues and profits. And the only stores that are halfway close to Apple stores in revenue per square meter are mostly ones that sell expensive jewelry that happens to tell time... or even just sparkle.

The theme has precedent. Apple is reported to be buying a mediocre-sounding earbud company because lots of college kids think they look hip wearing them.

For enough money, you can take the watch to a custom jeweler, have them remove the clasp, and gold plate it.

I think that would cost more than the $50 I paid for the watch, lol. Plus, not sure if gold-plating would solve the problem. Metal ions migrate. I actually was able to wear the watch for a while before the nickel finally migrated to the surface. I can buy cheap costume jewelry that's nickel-free so I'm disappointed that any jewelry more than $20 still contains nickel. The last wearable metal watch I had was from a company that specifically makes nickel-free jewelry but their selection is very limited.

Hypoallergenic metals include: 14k gold (not plated), palladium, platinum, sterling silver, tungsten, titanium

I'm disappointed. I was hoping for Apple to invent a previously nonexistent geometric shape.

It needs something REVOLUTIONARY not evolutionary -- time travel, teleportation, the ability to communicate with ghosts.

Ideally it would also make me stoned.

If it doesn't do all that, people will be COMPLAINING -- actually they'll complain no matter what!

I'm hoping for something more like this...

omg what ugly designed

I lost a little bit of interest in the iWatch now it will probably be a round device. Boring and conservative. Not that I don't like round designs watches, but then I rather choose for a solid piece of art with real mechanics within the watch. But not as an electronic device.

For a electronic device I hoped for something revolutionary, not only in technical sense but also in design.

Of course, I'm full aware that the iWatch is still not here, I could be surprised still but for now I'm just a bit disappointed with this news. But hey, it's just a gadget, not something to gather the whole United Nations for a emergency meeting.

I've had the 3gs, 4, 4s, and 5 and never once had a problem.

My iPhone ended up sliding across the icy pavement when I slipped on ice last winter and walked away with a few scratches.

How much more durable do you want them?

Well, it depends how it hits the ground I suppose.... But I would like to be able to answer the phone in the shower or even with wet hands in the kitchen etc.

If you search for you get about 102.000.000 results :) So I know she's not the only clumsy one out there. There is a whole industry out there that makes a pretty penny repairing iPhone screens.

All I'm saying is that instead of trying to make these phones thinner maybe they should concentrate their efforts on making them more durable.

Disappointing. Apple needs to reinvite / revolutionize the use of the watch - not mimic the current genre of expensive jewelry that happens to keep time.

I'm not compelled to begin wearing a watch unless it's Apple sexy. Round design concept is not at all sexy - regardless how awesome it may be syncing up with my iPhone.

I tend to agree, however, my final judgement will be based on my experience with the device when it comes out. But round? Yak, conservative concept indeed.

By the way, as a brand Apple all ready lost its first position from Google, quite rightfully too cause in the last few years Google was way more innovative then Apple.

Your Google search result would have more meaning if you had put quotes around the phrase. Your results are 99.9%+ about the individual words "broken", "iPhone" and "screen". If you did search the phrase, you get about 1.6 million results and all the top results are how to fix a broken iPhone screen, which is no actual indication of how many people experience it. Maybe an actual statistical study would be more meaningful. At any rate, if you know you are tough on an iPhone, multiple times, it behooves you to get a protective case.

Both my 4s and 5s have had a simple bumper case and protective film on them since I got them. Have never even scratched them and sold the 4s three years later as "like new".

If you need to answer the phone in the shower, you need to stop wasting so much water.

If it is round, it will work like a Nest.

I would rather it not be round as then they have to address fashion which in watches is REALLY subjective. I'd rather it be more innovative and new to the look - the wraparound band image looks stunning and something way more fresh than a round dial face.

i will buy it but this is VERY disappointing because I don't want a cheap 500 dollar watch from Apple.
I want to be able to wear my nice watches (or g-shock) + this device.

Yea, but many of us take care of our phones. I wouldn't want Apple basing their design around a few clumsy folks out there. Fix your wife, not Apple. ;)

Pity.

On my 40th i treated myself to a nice Japanese Casio. As much as i want to have the health possibilities and silent alarm that may come from an Apple iWatch, i don't want to have to buy another watch. I have enough G-Shocks & other watches so i don't need another. What i was really hoping for was a band (that obviously could show you the time), with screens for the health apps and other phone controls. I've been looking for a health band with a silent sleep cycle alarm, and pretty much there isn't one that works well, or won't fall apart (im looking at you jawbone Up), so i was hoping Apple was going to step up with something amazing and wipe the floor with the companies that've had such a big head start but still can't get it right.

The story about Apple prototypes is the sort of band i was hoping for, and i can only hope that perhaps it still happens along side an actual watch, as i think bringing out a watch cuts down on your market, ie many other people like me that think "i've already got a nice watch/given to me/etc", but would go for a band to have on the other wrist.

The Moto360 is the first Android device that I saw and thought of getting simply for its beautiful round design. Folks on tech sites talk about how smartwatches should be odd shapes instead of round like traditional watches, but the reason that smartwatches don't sell is that the general market wants a watch that *looks good* a.k.a. has a round face.

Apple, with its design aesthetic, will hopefully make something like the Moto360 but even nicer-looking. I especially hope for an application of Apple's traditional use of metal -- as a man who wears a round steel watch with a segmented metal band, I can imagine the beauty of a 'silver aluminum' round iWatch with metal band and sapphire crystal face (and a space grey version for those who prefer a darker version)...

I'm a woman and I think it looks nice. Maybe because I'm older and not very girly. This is the watch I have now:

Unfortunately, the clasp makes my wrist break out because it has nickel in it. I've tried coating it in nail polish but I still react a little

Titanium is the metal to go for.

Im with you on this. Really wanted a band like the concept art we've seen, that way you still get to wear your watch and have the band on the other wrist. Going for a watch design really cuts down on the number of people looking to purchase.

Ding ding ding!

My thinking exactly - instead of swiping on the touchscreen to move through various modes, you can simply run your finger along the bezel of the watch (ala the click wheel) which cycles through various features.

I think this would actually be kinda cool. Maybe that's just me being nostalgic.

I totally agree. When I try to use my pebble to navigate thru long lists of songs it's impossible. A click wheel would be 1,000 better.

What exactly has google "invented" ? Glasses that nobody use? Google + (week copy of facebook) google docs (week copy of MS office) I feel they're getting a ton of credit recently for being innovative but I don't see it.
