All this tech is USELESS if the battery doesn't last for days

True, which makes me wonder why the solar charging failed. I wonder if they were able to do whatever in the heck Rolex does to power their watches? I think it has to do with charging the battery through the natural movements of the arm. Some kind of motion driven mini generator. Although I guess an OLED screen and a boatload of sensors would drain power *far* more quickly than a simple chronograph motor.

Rumors on rumors on rumors.

I'll remember this method of reporting from newspapers, when they purport to report.

The NY Times says they spoke with "multiple employees for Apple and its partners" who "shared some details on the condition that they not be identified." That is (actual) reporting.

I keep thinking how cool it would be if wireless charging wasn't kinetic or "pad" based, but built into a new generation of Airport base stations or something. So your devices charge in your pocket/on your wrist as long as you're home or at work. FUTURESTATUS

Wireless charging meaning it charges as you move around :D

Not necessarily... a lot of phones claim "wireless charging" to mean placing on a particular surface for inductive charging. I agree though, for this to be a win, it needs to be truly wireless. I want this charging while I sleep with the device on my wrist monitoring my sleep. I also want this to be waterproof so it can track my swimming. I also want NFC payments. I also want GPS to track my location as I run. Heartrate monitor. Bluetooth to allow wireless earbuds for runs. All of this would be a perfect device.

ps. after I started writing this, I realized that you probably are jokingly implying that it charges through motion (like those flashlights). Regardless, my opinion remains.

witricity

hopefully the wireless charging is witricity's tech, if it has to be in contact with the charger then it is pointless.

Knowing how much Tim Cook loves wearing the Nike Fuel Band, maybe this mockup is close to the real deal, with a thin flexible screen..

I actually like this design. And many women wear bracelet like this anyway (but not watches), so at least for the female market, they wouln't need to convince them to wear an item they don't wear anyway. For men though, that would be a departure from a normal fashion item.

So that means if I want to keep my watch on and charge it, I'll have to hold or leave my arm over a charging pad. Probably during the night when I usually charge up my iDevices.

Alternatively you can hang around at store checkouts and siphon power from the NFC payment terminal. Be sure to prepare a phrasebook of idle talk to not raise the cashier's suspicions. "So, do you come here often?"

I'd like to see a wireless charging station that is built into your environment. I could see Apple using this idea inside an iMac and it powers your mouse and keyboard while also charging your watch while it is on your arm and your phone while it is in your pocket. You work at your computer for an hour and Shazam! Your phone is charged along with your watch.

People said the same about iPods, iPhones, and iPads prior to their unveiling. Your comment will be looked upon years from now and laugh at your expense.

Same thing was said about the iPod AFTER it's unveiling... You want some good comedy reading? Go find the original iPod announcement thread here on MR. There is some good funny stuff in there....

Edit: here you go. You're welcome :) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apples-new-thing-ipod.500/

That's not entirely unthinkable - Apple already owns a patent on that very thing. Whether it's ready for market is another thing, but for some reason, I don't think Apple would implement wireless charging if you still have to take the watch off. That would be a technological solution to no one's problem.
