Carrying around a tracking device in my pocket is enough for me. I'm not as keen as I once would have been to let entities of out my control have access to *even more* data about me.

EXACTLY. I'm sure Apple will tout how secure the cloud data is and how important your privacy is. Somehow, I don't believe it though. And when people start getting denied insurance because their HealthKit data was accessed by third parties, things will be interesting.

My concern is Life and medical insurance companies somehow getting this data and using it against their customers and not honoring there claims. Seems like a lot of private info for my liking.

Hopefully the info will be used for good and not evil. Wait who am I kidding the world is run by corporations.

The HIPPA laws in the US would open another can of worms, hence the story (I think it was here of the weekend and the iCloud pseudo-furor) about Apple prohibiting HealthKit info from being stored there, but kept on the device.

I'm expecting this device to be something that you could wear in addition to a watch, really.

Maybe wearing it like a house arrest ankle bracelet?

I don't put much stock in these rumors, as literally no one outside Apple has a clue.

As for me, if it's not round, I'm not interested.

Hmm a watch you can make calls from. Apple should have sponsored Dick Tracy.

iWatch - Round Face Please

I love iOS devices, but another smartwatch with anything other than a round face looks like a casio calculator watch. If Jony Ive is expecting a parallelogram faced watch to make Swiss watchmakers nervous, then I do not know what to think. I wish they would make a nice watch that also happens to be an iOS device. I do not care if it flexible, and for God's sake none of the iWatch concepts that have been teased online look like something any adult should wear, especially the bangled version.

None of us know, but I think it will be rectangular, not round. I think it would make more efficient use of the size that way since it won't be an analog device, as in no traditional round clock face.

Rumors on rumors on rumors.

I'll remember this method of reporting from newspapers, when they purport to report.

Not good news for those predicting that the device would stand on its own without being teathered to an iPhone.

Apple was never going to make a wearable the size that would be required for iPhone-like capabilities.

I think it will have iPhone like capabilities like touch screen, bluetooth, NFC, iOS, sensors, apps, etc. It just won't have any battery hungry features that the iPhone already has like Wi-Fi, GPS, cellular radio.

It will function well alone but it won't be nearly as useful unless you have an iPhone 6 in your pocket.

It would be interesting if the iWatch somehow interacted with games on AppleTV a la Wii.

I really hope Apple has at least one original game changing innovation to make their iWatch the standout smart watch. We all know it will look the best and run the smoothest and have the best apps and work the best with the smartphone you tether it to. But in the end, it will be just another smart watch much like how the iPhone is just another smartphone. Seven years ago, they weren't that original but it seemed original and fresh and everyone took years to catch up and copy.

I'm talking about an innovation that makes everyone sit up and say "Why didn't we think of that" followed by scrambling and posturing to pretend they did think of that. I'm mostly thinking about the battery and wireless charging system because that is what really sets the wearable category apart from the phone category. Apple needs something better and simpler than just taking off the watch every few days to charge it on some sexy looking stand. Everyone else will already be doing that this time next year.

I agree with this. So those people who choose to continue to wear a high-end watch will not buy this product to replace their high-end watch then, correct?

FTFY; It will still take years for tech devices like google glass and smart watches to become accepted as normal wear, then as a trend, then as luxury (which, is probably why Apple bought Beats' apt marketing team). Until then, nothing will replace a true analog luxury watch. I can only imagine niche celebrities wearing them as a statement, such as Reggie Watts.

None of us know, but I think it will be rectangular, not round. I think it would make more efficient use of the size that way since it won't be an analog device, as in no traditional round clock face.

Hm. Perhaps it will be square; it would allow decent symmetry and a circular display that harkens to an actual timepiece, while still allowing for the efficiency of rectangles.

I actually really hope it is a square, so all these pundits can say "well we we're technically right....'

I wouldn't expect it to keep the watch completely charged, but rather work like the brakes on electric hybrids where tiny amounts are generated by braking to extend battery life a bit. You never know. 5 days.

I was thinking something similar.

I doubt many wear their Rolex swimming, jogging, doing yard work etc. They wear them for dress. The Apple watch is a different animal. For many it may be the only device worn, for others, it will be a supplement, maybe for casual wear for those times when it's not practical to wear a high end watch.

You would be wrong. Despite its more recent embrace as a status symbol, Rolex built its reputation on sturdy, reliable tool watches like the Explorer II for workers underground, the various dive watches like the Submariner, etc and to this day such watches are used in the field as tools. There's a reason why Ian Fleming, the naval officer who wrote the novels, and Terence Young, the army officer who directed the first films, put James Bond in Rolex Oyster Perpetuals and it was not flashiness.

(Watch/tech nerd aside).

They have done well to keep the physical design under wraps, the iPhone 6 has been leaked more times than a drinker with a small bladder on a pub crawl.

It would be interesting if the iWatch somehow interacted with games on AppleTV a la Wii.

That's where 3rd party developers will come into play. Apple might implement some kind of cool GUI using iWatch for viewing entertainment but they will never do anything for games or unique apps the way developers would.

So it might actually be a good thing if the watch doesn't ship until 2015 giving developers time to develop cool uses for a wearable.

I think a square would be un-Ive like. It will be a complimenting style/shape to the new iPhone.

I don't doubt that they can handle it. I just doubt that most owners use them that way.

Unapologetically square :)

Others have brought up Ive's love of Braun and Sony designs. (The one in the middle is a smartwatch.)

However, rumors say flexible, which to me argues for a long rectangular band. Remember that slap-band device patent Apple got not long ago?

I wish this iWatch is just a rumor.
Who wants to wear something bulky and ugly?

The ugly/bulky picture on the article is just some mess thrown together by some person on the Internet and has nothing at all to do with what the iWatch will actually look like. There has not been a single leaked picture or even drawing of a potential iWatch. How do you know it is bulky and ugly?

I pretty much only use the submariner when diving. Usually I just stick it in my pocket since I generally have 2 or more dive computers. I rarely wear it on land.
