Yes these look ugly in 2014 but they are from 1998..

This is what a typical pc (competing product) looked in 1998:

Still think those 1998 Macs were ugly?

I'm pretty sure you could get windowed cases and put in some cold cathode lights in 1998..

guess you werent around for the iphone 3G/S -- great phones that were best in class and best sellers.

What was so great about them? The first time i really thought about buying a smartphone was when i saw glass iPhone 4. Wasnt impressed by 3G and 3GS and plastic was one of the reasons and we all know how durable it was and how awesome they looked after few months.

I hope those dimensions aren't accurate. At 14X7 cm, it would be larger than the Nexus 5 despite having a smaller screen. And the bottom bezel on the Nexus 5 is already huge.

I'm 6'4 with large hands and I have owned a Moto X and a Nexus 5 (currently my daily driver). The Nexus 5 already feels to big thanks to the awful bezel placement. The Moto X feels much better in the hands because the smaller bezel is on the bottom. Even the Nexus 5 can feel better upside down.

The Moto X, a phone with a 4.7" screen, feels barely bigger than an iPhone 5. If the 4.7" iPhone 6 is larger than the Nexus 5, that will be a huge bummer. Apple needs to rethink that huge home button causing so much bezel.

could it be like this?

NO PROTRUDING CAMERA!!!!

That's 1 of my biggest gripes with most droid phones. I lay my phone screen up most of the time, I don't want it wobbling, I certainly don't want it to create a weak point where it could snap in half under surprise weight.

Isn't the 5C just the 5 wrapped in plastic? I mean in terms of internals and performance. What was the switch for?

The long version of the story is that I switched to a Nexus 5 and absolutely hated it. I bought a 5c over a 5S mostly for money reasons since I was planning to get the iPhone 6 anyway.

I'm almost sure this article is BS,They will never make their new big screen iphone based on the poor selling and undesirable plastic 5c.
The majority of people dislike 5c and Apple knows it.

The big screen iPhone will be based on iPhone 5s,but much thinner probably with rounded edges (similar to iPad Air / rMini).

That's the best design they can come up with, not these silly and ugly renders people are posting here :D

Some use it, intelligent developers. Nonetheless, Apple is going to rework API and gestures entirely to help with usability on larger devices.

No, not 3.5".

There will be no devices sold as new with a 3.5 inch display. All three price points will be 4"+
1. IPhone 6
2. IPhone 5S
3. IPhone 5C

3.5inch will be able to be deprecated.

AutoLayout has a bunch of issues; it's awkward to set-up and change constraints (especially when animating), especially if you don't use .xibs for your interface. It's also slow - constraint solving is a polynomial-complexity problem. It's only really useful if you have very simple layouts.

As for 3.5", I don't think it's ready to be deprecated. There are still an awful lot of iPhone 4 and 4Ses around, not to mention iPads which use the 3.5" form when running iPhone apps (that might be changeable; but large differences in the aspect-ratio will make the experience even worse than it already is).

Even if it does become deprecated (which I strongly, strongly doubt), we'll be left with 3 different screen sizes (each with different resolutions to reach a Retina-level PPI; possibly different aspect ratios, too):

- 4"
- 4.7"
- 5.7"

oh I see that makes sense. How long did you last before switching back? I kept my iPhone when i tried the S3 for a week. Lucky I did lol

I agree with the 3.5" iPhone 4S not being deprecated yet. I think it will stick around for one more year. Although, I believe will Apple retain the 16:9 form factor for iPhone with screen size 4" and above and still keeping the 326dpi resolution (that's assuming the screen quality is at least as good as the iPhone 5s, if not better).

and this one

with a wraparound touch panel covered by a whole piece of seamless crystal glass

Not because of the shape of the phone. Because it is last years technology being sold in a new package. The feel and shape of the phone is very nice. Substitute the plastic for aluminum and you have an iPhone in the shape of an iPad 2. The curvature better fits your hands. I don't know anyone who, with their fingers curled, forms perfect 90 degree right angles.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night. A small bezel on the bottom is much more ergonomic because it gives you more thumb range. Moto X nailed the sweet spot size and form factor, but I'm afraid the touch ID button is a limiting factor to iPhone design choices.

I'll watch the announcements this fall with great interest. As a daily iPad user, there would be obvious advantages to switching back to iPhone. But the Moto X is such a good match for my preferences right now. I'd hate to give up the OLED screen, the perfect from factor, and genuinely useful features like Active Display, which I would hate to lose. My non-techie wife with a 5s even said she is jealous of that feature.
