Best way to miss or mess up a shot and introduce camera shake when pressing it. Way to go Apple.

Not for me. No shake at all. It's far more stable than pressing the screen. You do have to know how to hold the phone using both hands when making photographs. It's a big improvement.

Spend a few minutes using it before leaping to the assumption Apple has no idea what they're doing.

Or, since it's something you can anticipate and prepare for, you could unlock your phone, open the Camera app, select Video mode, and record it like iPhones have always recorded video (push the button to start, push the button to stop).

The new method with the CC button is for catching quick, spur of the moment videos that you didn't anticipate. For that purpose it's a good, useful design.
Ok, that makes better sense. I was under the impression you had to hold the button down. Still, if you are recording something, I would prefer hold the button down to start the recording, be able to then move your finger, and then tap the screen to stop.

Even recording something that’s a minute or two and having to hold that button down it would be a PIA.

Sorry, but those who truly like photography understand that an actual camera offers superior ergonomics, control, and flexibility for actual photography than anything you can do on a phone, with or without gimmicky buttons. We may like and appreciate the convenience of taking a spontaneous quick snapshot with the phone, but we don’t pretend it can replace our cameras, especially with the amount of post-processing it seems to do.
I disagree and I don’t know emoji poo about photography. You can enjoy something without needing to understand the technical details or having high end equipment. The best camera is the one you have with you. Which will, in nearly 100% of cases, be your phone. There probably aren’t too many personal use situations where you have your camera and not your phone, unless you intentionally leave your phone. It’s okay for people to be casual amateurs, and it’s okay for people to be pros.

Though you may not know why, your assessment is correct. Not holding your camera/phone in a stable manner when releasing the shutter results in shake, which will result in photos that are blurry.

My 16PM returns sharp photos as result of how I hold it. Let me know if you need further help/assistance.

For me it’s not when it releases. It’s the press. Could have something to do with finger size given how the button sits in the frame.

And I’m no stranger to shutter buttons, on phones and actual cameras.

🤷‍♂️
