@Outrigger

Completely agree. I'm disheartened mainly because it's part of the overall ecosystem/user experience that has more or less been contracted out.

I have several apple displays and love them all they all offered great intervention. The acrylic acd's were amazing at the time and being able to turn the system on and off from a touch button on the display amazing in the early 2000's. Apple has been presenting itself as a brand and ecosystem and prides itself on visual design. I'm sure the display in the LG is fantastic-it's already in the 5k iMac, and Apple has been using LG and Samsung displays in their computers for years. It's just the loss of aesthetics and seriously complementing the system, whether it is a Mac Pro or a MacBook: aluminum and glass, vs aluminum and plastic.

Yeah, a bit perplexing how Apple has all of a sudden gotten ok with their products being surrounded by lackluster design. Not that the functionality of the LG monitor will be disappointing, I'm actually really looking forward to getting it, but a space grey display sure would of looked nice plastered around their spaceship campus.

So does anyone have any idea when this thing will be released? It says December... It's December. And I am curious if it will actually be "available" or "shipping in 4-5 weeks"?

I was going to drive to Oklahoma City (200+ miles away because they aren't available in store here) to pick up 2 of the 4K 21.5" versions instead... but people have got me scared about blurry text (not comparable to retina) in some of these 4k displays. I am a graphic designer and I need that retina type display. Am I stuck waiting on this 5K LG UF?

I'm surprised at the blurry text in the 21.5" since it should have a higher DPI than the 27". For the 27", I still have the order page on auto-refresh. Customer service reps offer no indication as to when this will be available. If the promo pricing goes away, I'll be look elsewhere to replace my 23" ACD.

now we are 7 days into Dec and still not available for purchase.
At this rate, there'll only be a short (holiday) snap for punters to actually view the new monitors in store, and process any tests /reviews (- made more difficult since they only work with the one device - ) before the discount window closes in just over 3 weeks. I guess a lot of buyers may need take advantage of the extended return over Xmas, and treat it as a trial. Thou I'm not sure how that works if these deliveries are postponed for much longer.

Likely order sometime in Dec, delivery & charged sometime Feb, customer returns have to be asked for within 2 weeks after delivery – 2 weeks being Apple's standard non-Xmas return window.

I'm getting tired of all this "available December" stuff. Why are we forced to check the website each and every day until Dec 29th so we can place an order. There is no grand unveiling here!! Give is a date or let us pre order!!!

Not that I'm buying the 5k- but yes I'm tired of the "coming xxx" too, Mac Pro coming late 2013, AirPods coming late October and other items like the 5k lg display. It really is a bad trend. Change it to last minute 2016!

Has anyone seen a proper review of this screen yet? All the specs looks very good and the price is okay for a 5K screen. I just need to see a more technical review to see if it is good enough for retouching...

The display is the exact one used in the 5k iMac. So you could just read up on that. It's a joke really. This display has been around for ages yet they don't have any to sell.

All I gave found is this guy's unboxing video. In the video he promised a follow up review, but he never followed through.

Would also be curious to see how well the dual setups work - with two of the Lg/5k monitors running off one MBP. The specs indicate that this should work via any of the GPU options. But I've not come across any such reviews (or blogs) yet.

Also, when evaluating the price don't forget that there is NO AppleCare available. Just a limited 2-year, non-transferable(!) Warrantee from Lg. Which limits the resale value.

True. Why do these vloggers get early units if they don't even bother to tell viewers what specs the things do! Are you trying to tell me they are completely oblivious to the position they're in, as surely they have the brains to realise folks are crying out for information about them.

Even worse, promising follow-ups, and never bothering to do so for weeks on end, certainly doesn't impress anyone that you're a vlog worth following at all.

Notice his next video was about some crap trainers that self-tie-up ...who the f cares, when next to no one is going to buy them, tacky as they are (especially when they cost around the same as the LG displays!). Grrr!!

His is the only review I have seen on this display. It makes me wonder where he got it, or if he violated some kind of NDA by releasing this video so early.

Because it was codeveloped with Apple. LG wouldn't have made anything like this if Apple weren't involved. I'm not talking about design, I'm talking about the panel, audio, USB-C only, camera, software integration, components, etc.
[doublepost=1481469318][/doublepost]Well if Apple wants its name associated with it they should also allow buyers to purchase applecare for the monitor. They bailed on their own displays, went into a strategic alliance with LG for a monitor "made for the macbook pro" to replace their own product and then abandoned its clients behind the "we did not make it, so if there is anything wrong go to the manufacturer, not us". Now there is a two-faced stamp of endorsement if I have ever seen one. Terrible behaviour by Apple.

And their complete inability to communicate when exactly the 5K display will be available is shameful. Particularly since its "on sale". It's on sale but you can't have it, and na na nanana we won't tell you when because we are the wonderful Apple Corporation. That, is not impressive either. It is not the old Apple of Steve Jobs that would bend over backward to right any wrong I tell you. The edge is gone.

They don't have to be. People with the money call the shots.
Well, I
Not available in UK or the Netherlands either. Nice US only launch :/
There is no launch in the U.S., or in Canada or anywhere. The "launch" is a joke.
