Only 128GB storage? There would barely be anything left with the OS.

This “low cost” will quickly balloon with storage and RAM upgrades to make it useable.

That's basically the Cook playbook on the product lines.

You want folks to consider an upgraded component ... and get the pricing close enough where they think about just bumping up a full level or model for several hundred more dollars.

I'm already excited for the various podcasters who are going to claim, for a few weeks, how this can be their "only" and they could "never go back" to something larger and heavier.

(they'll all be done with that within a couple weeks)
Well said!

Much like with the release of iPhone Air… suddenly the Pro Max became a chonky brick. An excellent model that a massive number of users rely on became heavily criticized.

I own both an Air and Pro Max, each has its pros and cons, yet neither is a bad phone, just different. I celebrate the choices.

"Breakthrough Innovation"
"BUILT for Apple Intelligence"
"A strikingly thin and light design"

"Hey Siri, activate the marketing buzzword generator"

Indeed! Who’s up for another game of BS Bingo at launch-time?

I'm still betting that this is going to be a reuse of the MBA M1 design to keep development costs down as Apple likes to do with their entry level devices. We'll see in a couple weeks though.

I also think they will have re-tooled the M1 MBA chassis to keep costs down as much as possible and also because I don't think they can get any thinner without putting a garbage keyboard in there again.

It could end up as the current MBA, but 12” instead of 13”. I’m hoping for a new design to give us a taste of what the redesigned Pros might be like.

It all comes down to the RAM mainly - I couldn't care less about Apple "Intelligence", but any 8GB machine running MacOS is not going to age well. My Mac runs around 10GB usage before I've even started any apps. If the chip is comparable to M1 type pf performance, that should be enough for basic usage for a while. My mum still runs an M1 16GB Air, and it works perfectly fine for what she needs.

Apple has kept things pretty tight on this product.

If it weren't for Kuo first breaking the news 6 months ago, we'd all be debating what J700 meant. Some people would actually believe Apple is launching glasses on March 4.

Rumors are going worse and worse for this trash MacBook, mate 128gb only? No MagSafe?.. It might be even worse than the m1 MacBook Air with his 12.9 inch display…
Yeah, people are getting really emotionally invested in something which is only rumors. This is something not intended for them, which is why they gleefully want it to fail.

What I think it will be:

Smaller but a bit thicker than a MacBook Air.

12/256 to start

MagSafe + 1 or 2 USB-C

Hopefully without a notch.
If they use the M1 Air chassis, then no notch as the screen will be a little smaller than what is there now.

If they were to squeeze this into the 12" MacBook chassis, then the larger screen would likely need a notch and it will allow a larger screen without needing a larger case, just as it does on the MBA and the MBP.
