SAmsung’s site described the screen as “12.4" Dynamic AMOLED 2X
I take the “2X” to indicate a tandem OLED.
If that were the case, Samsung would certainly lay claim to the 'tandem' or 'dual' layers as benefits offered by their device. Considering the 400 nit difference in baseline display, I'd say theirs is NOT 'tandem/dual' and therefore NOT equivalent to the iPad's display.

Could be. I didn’t see any tech specs that listed real details. I do wonder what they mean by the 2X in the screen name. “12.4" Dynamic AMOLED 2X

The biggest surprise here is that Samsung thought it was a good idea to put a notch on a tablet: even Apple has yet to make this particular sin against good design. 🫢

Samsung may need to dial back the Courage™ just a little.
As the owner of 3 generations of 12.9” iPad Pro, and 2 generations of Tab Ultra 15”…

The notch makes no difference, as it disappears into the small letterbox in movies.

The Tab Ultra is phenomenal. I’m always waiting to see if Apple can get back in the game with their pro tablet, but it’s been 3 years now, and they’re still just adding features the Samsung has had for that entire time.

The best thing about the Samsung products is that the stylus works across multiple products. I do most of my work with a stylus these days, and my iPhone is basically useless when it comes to that.

The Samsung is winning there by a landslide.

Another important thing for me is Samsung (and other android tablets) can handle multiple user accounts like a real computer. We don’t need separate devices for everyone in my family. Samsung dex is also superior to ipados external monitor handling. IpadOS is like a child toy.

This review seems geared toward using tablets as laptops. I would prefer hearing a review from someone that only uses the stylus and finger gestures which was the original intent of these devices.
Agreed, and that is very often my problem with YouTubers review of the iPad Pro .
For me it’s always a tablet first, and I use touch and pen much more than the keyboard

this is also why an S9 ultra for me is too big to use as a tablet and why a surface pro is not a great device for my needs as the optimisation for touch is not great

Is it even any bit of any kind of surprise anymore? This is the company that always backtracks. I mean, everyone is all like, "YAAAAAAA stick it to Apple!!!" "Ruthless BRUTAL take down of Apple and their anti-consumerism!!!!" But, then pikachu shock faced when Samsung does the very thing they mocked Apple for.

*makes fun of Apple sheep for wanting to buy a mobile phone without a headphone jack* (Samsung not only removes the headphone jack, but removes the SD card slot, and seals in the battery)

  HAY GUYS, JUST TO LET YOU KNOW WE'VE TOTALLY NOT REMOVED THE IN-BOX CHARGER FOR YOUR GALAXY PHONE!!  AREN'T WE SO AWESOME ✌️✌️ (then deletes tweet and removes the charger)

"Hee hee hee! We made a commercial about a family with notched hair cuts! See we're funny! We made a joke!" (makes a notched tablet)

Perhaps the iPad still doesn't have one because it's often used in varying orientations, which would look awkward.

Samsung may need to dial back the Courage™ just a little.

Well, they're always a little full of it. Like when they criticized no headphone jack, then also removed it themselves.

So basically, their so-called 'AMOLED 2X' is...hot air. Like most Samsung claims, marketing-speak with no depth. iPad Pro's already have had variable refresh rates for several years now, likewise the DCI-P3 color gamut (I think 98-99%, but close enough for most users of an iPad Pro).

And this "2X" in the name is most definitely meant to mislead consumers into thinking, 'Oh, like a "tandem" or "dual" OLED—just like the iPad Pro, but for fewer dollars!'

Samsung did the same thing with television screens when they couldn't scale their OLEDs to large sizes economically (and consistently) and their main Korean competitor, LG, was having huge success with their OLED televisions and in fact making the screens for EVERYONE else in the market who used a quality OLED.

So 'Samesung' came up with the term "QLED" - it even LOOKS like "OLED" at first glance. And that is not accidental, the term was obviously designed with this in mind. Typical as with everything at this point, cloud the consumer mind, confuse the terminology (especially as most people won't really know that QLED and OLED are even different technologies).

The Tab S9 Ultra: Samsung’s Most Expensive Joke Yet
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra isn’t just a failure—it’s an overpriced, oversized embarrassment that’s nothing more than Samsung’s latest failed attempt to be relevant in the tablet space. It’s a hollow, meaningless slab of regret, destined to rot in the hands of clueless buyers who don’t realize they’ve been scammed.
Meanwhile, the M4 iPad Pro is an absolute, undisputed juggernaut—a machine so vastly superior that even a 2010 first-gen iPad would have a more cohesive and functional experience than this pathetic YouTube machine Samsung dares to call a “flagship.”

The Display: A Flickering Gimmick That’s Already Doomed

Samsung fanboys scream about AMOLED, but the reality is that it’s nothing more than an overrated, burn-in-prone gimmick that sacrifices real-world usability for showroom hype. The iPad Pro’s Liquid Retina XDR display is an engineering masterpiece, delivering higher sustained brightness, actual color accuracy, and zero risk of burn-in.
The Tab S9 Ultra's massive 16:10 screen is the single dumbest decision Samsung has ever made—it’s too awkward for handheld use, impractical for anything other than watching stretched-out Netflix shows, and absolutely useless for productivity. iPads were designed for real creative work, while this oversized failure is nothing more than an OLED-ridden money pit.

Performance: The M4 Chip Crushes Samsung Into Obscurity

Let’s be real: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is nothing more than a glorified phone chip with zero business being in a “pro” device. It’s a lag-ridden, thermally throttled disgrace that crumbles the moment you try to do anything beyond opening Chrome and Twitter.
Meanwhile, the M4 iPad Pro’s chip is literally desktop-class, running circles around even high-end Intel Macs, let alone this sorry excuse for a tablet. The Tab S9 Ultra struggles to keep basic UI animations smooth, while the iPad Pro effortlessly powers professional-grade apps like Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and full 3D rendering suites.
The S9 Ultra is an overpriced gimmick, an underpowered scam that Samsung wants clueless buyers to think is “good enough.” But in reality, it’s an embarrassment, a disgrace, a technological fossil masquerading as a premium device.

Ecosystem: Samsung’s Barren Desert vs. Apple’s Technological Utopia

The Tab S9 Ultra has no ecosystem. Period. Samsung DeX? A laggy, useless joke that barely works and breaks compatibility with half the apps it tries to run. “Galaxy ecosystem?” What ecosystem? A few janky features that barely sync and randomly stop working? Samsung’s entire “continuity” is a fraud, a desperate attempt to copy Apple’s flawless integration while failing miserably.
Meanwhile, iPadOS seamlessly integrates with macOS, iOS, Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple Pencil, Universal Control, Sidecar, and Handoff—meaning you’re always connected, always productive, and never dealing with half-baked, broken nonsense like on Android.

S Pen: A Cheap, Laggy, Pointless Disgrace

The S Pen is a joke—a wobbly, lag-filled, barely functional stylus that Samsung slaps onto their tablets to trick gullible buyers into thinking they’re getting a “pro” experience. The Apple Pencil is the gold standard, used by professional artists, designers, and note-takers worldwide. Samsung’s S Pen, on the other hand, is nothing more than a plastic stick with latency problems.
If you seriously think the S Pen can compete with Apple Pencil, you’re either delusional or you’ve never used a real stylus before.

Software Support: Samsung’s Abandonment Program

Samsung’s “update commitment” is a hilarious joke. Expect sluggish, late updates, filled with bugs and missing features. Within two years, this already pathetic device will be an even worse, bloated disaster with nonexistent support.
Meanwhile, Apple’s iPads get updates for nearly a decade. A 2018 iPad will still outperform a 2024 Samsung tablet, because Apple actually cares about long-term performance.

Longevity: The Tab S9 Ultra is a Disposable, Overpriced YouTube Machine

Samsung devices are built to die. The S9 Ultra is already obsolete the moment you buy it, doomed to be a slow, unsupported, depreciating mess within a year. Meanwhile, an M4 iPad Pro will be dominating benchmarks and running pro-level software for the next decade.

Final Verdict: The Tab S9 Ultra is a Dead-On-Arrival Scam

If you willingly buy the Tab S9 Ultra, you are paying for a glorified Android phone with a stretched-out screen—a laggy, underpowered joke of a tablet that has zero future. This pathetic, half-baked, Frankenstein’s monster of a device is nothing more than a gimmicky, overpriced mess with no real use case.
Meanwhile, the M4 iPad Pro isn’t just superior—it’s the gold standard, the absolute pinnacle of what a tablet can be. It’s a real productivity tool, a real creative powerhouse, and an actual long-term investment.
If you think the Tab S9 Ultra is a good purchase, you deserve the disappointment you’re about to experience.

I’ve been using iPads for years, but it’s always a bit cumbersome with iOS. I always feel like I’m trying to play a violin inside a phone booth. I picked up the S9 ultra last Christmas and I really-really wanted to keep it. Unfortunately, I struggled with logging onto websites because I’m so used to using Face ID. Likewise, not even Samsung‘s own apps seem to work without bugs. It’s simply not optimized for the tablet at all in my opinion. You have to use third-party apps to get the darn thing to work. Certainly, iOS 17.x once again introduced more bugs that I didn’t have before the update, so it’s almost a draw. 🤷‍♂️

Now I have a fairly new M2 iPad Pro, but frankly, I can’t tell much difference between the M1 iPad Pro I was running during my comparison. I’m looking forward to the S10 ultra from Samsung to see if they’ve addressed any of my concerns. 🤞

One more thing; the included Samsung S Pen is much more pleasant to use than the Apple Pencil. It feels a lot more natural versus the Apple Pencil, whereby I feel like I’m signing my name on a piece of ice.
well the s10 ultra is nothing more than an embarrassing doa from smasnug
