Apple's M7 Ultra chip coming in 2028 is designed to support up to 1.5TB of unified memory, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. However, whether such a configuration is offered may depend on the state of the ongoing memory chip shortage.

In 2019, Apple released an Intel-based Mac Pro with up to 1.5TB RAM.

This is going to be the first Mac to break the $100,000 barrier.

Shouldn’t be much longer for the M5 Studios (1-3 months). For M7 Studios you’ll be waiting until 2028.
I’m in a similar situation to Zedsdead, except I bought a base model Mac Studio in March. Figured I’d limp by with 36gb and 512gb storage until June. Then I’d buy the new M5 Mac Studio, tricked out. Sure enough, I ran into storage limitations on that machine, which were manageable but an annoyance.

I sprung for a gray market 2tb SSD upgrade for $490. It works great and actually increased SSD performance.

I’m not 100% sure what I’ll do, but I’m now learning toward waiting for the M7s, since they’re being fast-tracked. That said, we may end up again in a situation where the M7 comes out for the laptops and is delayed for the lower volume desktop PCs. So I may pull the trigger. I was eyeing at one point the M5 Ultra with 256gb memory and 2 or 4tb of storage. That is likely about $5000 more than I had expected now, so may just see what the base model Ultra looks like. If it comes with 96gb and 2tb SSD, then I may bite.

I know, but with the increased price point and how late into the cycle the M5 is (also it's the third generation 3nm process)...to me not worth the upgrade now. I am going to wait out the M7 lineup...however, there's always the risk the prices get worse and not better...but hopefully not.

I foolishly waited thinking the M5 Mac Studios would come out - and at this point, it'll be way too far into the release cycle (and with current price increases). I likely will wait for the M7 series.

I feel the same way, but also, the M7 Studio isn’t supposed to be released until 2028. Based on history, I’d expect WWDC at the earliest. If this is all true, you’re going to be roughly in the same spot for the M7 chip generation as you are now for the M5 (at the end of the release cycle) by the time it gets released.

I'm hoping that by 2028, Apple will be more eager to get high end hardware out the door with Ternus at the helm. Some of this will clearly depend on chip fab capacity but some of that will hopefully be alleviated by the fact that AI compute is going to start moving to edge inference at a faster clip and the big data centers will be primarily used for training models and heavy lifting inference for power users.

If that chip can somehow get put into a Mac Mini or Mac Studio, I think Apple will make a fortune from people using it for data centers

LOL, I don't think the M7 Ultra would even physically fit into the Mac mini chassis...?

This is going to be the first Mac to break the $100,000 barrier.

But on to more important matters, the all-new Mac Pro Cube, featuring the all-new M7 Extreme, available with 3TB of RAM, for the low,low cost of US$250K...! ;^p

Offer of 32GB of 5600Mhz DDR5 for the wife.

Bruh, not even 6000MT/s CAS30...? Come on...

Soooo with Apples traditional 60% mark up that will only cost you $200,000 in todays market... considering if I recall the Mac Pro maxed out was around 45 to 50 thousand? And the 200 to 300% memory cost increases..

Order lead time will probably be at least a year too.

It will cost even more then as they are saying the prices are just going to continue to increase.. some more fabs are being brought online in other countries BUT they are being used to feed into Ai data centres in those countries to compete with America.
