Cancelling my Apple TV+ after the free one year. Not much decent content compared to Netflix aside from Tehran. And, offloading my MBA M1 now that I know it's just all fake hype.
How much you selling that MacBook for bb. Dms are open 😜

I just bought an M1 Mac Mini, but it won’t arrive for 2 weeks. Apple Silicon is the only really exciting thing happening in desktops or laptops at the moment. If Apple can keep the excitement for the chis going, then I expect their sales to continue to improve. I think the iMac is just a TAD too expensive and the sales may hurt on them ($999 would have been a killer price), but they could be a real hit if people are willing to spend the money.
$999 is a price of base MBA but iMac has gorgeous 24" 4.5K display. Won't happen.

Apple was at 8% last quarter, and likely third in
every tech company is prospering incredibly this year
Gartner estimates that Lenovo Group (ticker: 992.Hong Kong) remained the market-share leader globally, with 25.1% of the market, and 42.3% unit growth from a year ago. HP Inc. (HPQ) had 21.4% of the market, with 34.6% unit growth, while Dell Technologies (DELL) had 16.5% market share and 12.9% unit growth. Gartner says that Apple (AAPL) had 8% market share in the quarter, with units up a gaudy 48.6%.

'wonder how linux did?

First, Apple is outgrowing them all, it's market share was up significantly in Q1, and I'll bet it grows more this quarter.

Second, Apple had close to 20% of the PC market share by revenues in Q1, because it eschews cheap sub $600 laptops and desktops it's average Mac sales price is around $1,300 while Lenova, HP, and Dell are averaging around $500. It was probably in a tossup for 2nd place with HP.

Third, Apple earns more off Macintosh than the rest of the PC market combined makes, that's been true for years and now is getting close to doubling industry profits.

My guess is this quarter has it closing in on 10% units share and 25% revenue share, which would have it either #1 or in a virtual tie for #1 in revenues.

And this is a month before the release of the new iMacs, which are going to increase low end iMac sales substantially, and a few months before the launch of new MacBook Pros and high end iMacs, which are going to massively increase sales of those lines. By the end of the year Macintosh should not only be close to 15% of industry unit sales and a third of industry revenues, but it should have over 50% of the >$1,000 PC market in a vise grip. Graphics artists, videographers, music editors, developers, etc, etc, are going to find the Apple Silicon value proposition overwhelming.

I think many, many people would gladly takena lower quality screen for a lesser price, especially considering who Apple appears to be aiming this machine towards. $1299 for a ā€œcasualā€ fun machine is too much IMO. This should be priced on par with the MBA As both machines share the target audience.

I'm sure most people would. I'm just saying with 4.5K display the price wouldn't be at $999. Apple made the choice to not include 1080p screen for cheap new iMac.

It will be impossible to make it a bigger hit by cutting the price, given that it will be backordered immediately. Apple is already going to sell every single one they can make for quite a while because it's a massive upgrade to the previous iMac that sold well already.

No one is giving you a 4.5K screen or M1 performance those price points, let alone the design, fit, finish, quality and other Mac niceties like touchID, etc. No reason to discount when you already have the best value in town.

Apple does not and should not care a whit about people who aren't willing to pay for a quality experience. iMac users will be staring at that screen for thousands of hours. It's less than $5 a month extra during the life-time of owning that iMac.

In addition to Mac and iPad they should add the category RAM and SSD upgrades since that is where Apple is ripping users off big time charging obscene outrageous upgrade prices.

Yes I know what I want to hear at the earnings call of the worlds biggest company is the difference in price between a 512 and 1tb SSD.

For the love of god no. The rigid frame of a proper laptop is a large part of what makes mobile work possible. Those awful flimsy foreskin keyboards provide no support or foundation and are infuriatingly unresponsive by comparison. Not to mention the clumsy hinges. Then there is the awful thickness that comes with a touchscreen that bloats and weighs it down. Which is particularly annoying considering that the elevation portion of the laptop (screen) then outweighs the bottom (flimsy keyboard). All for what in the end?

I’m not a fan of the iPad (not despairing those that are), but laptops should stay as laptops.
I believe the division exists between laptops and tablets for good reason.
Doesn't need a rubber keyboard, just a detachable one. Touchscreens aren't particularly thick or heavy.

Why? Because it's silly to have two separate devices that do nearly the same thing and run different OSs. For something that's supposed to replace a PC, seems like everyone who uses an iPad uses a PC too. Just seems like a way for Apple to sell more stuff, not truly the best user experience.

It wasn't so long ago Cook was trying to kill off the Mac with all the "Who needs a computer?" nonsense, or whatever it was. I am glad someone saw some sense.

i think you mean ā€œwhat’s a computerā€ … too many took that literally yet ONLY thinking commonly of our view of a computer, not realizing that the slogan was referring to ā€œcomputing devicesā€ is anything with a processor. After 3.7 decades of the personal computer everyone should’ve known this.

My M1 MacBook Pro is the second Mac I have bought for myself. Its been working great so far, but I experienced my first nasty crash this evening after trying to initiate a backup of my 11.3 installation. The USB C cord was acting funny, it shows that it was connected, but the G Drive was not showing on the desktop. I unplugged the drive from the cable while attached the Mac and suddenly restarted. Submitted the report, the restart was graceful though and Backing up eventually started.

On my iPhone (iOS 14.5) you have to select each message first in Unread folder, on yours you can select all automatically? Nice! What version are you on?

so this doesn’t work well enough for you?

  1. While viewing a list of emails, tap Edit.
  2. Select the emails you want to move or mark by tapping their checkboxes.
To select multiple emails quickly, swipe down through the checkboxes.
  3. Choose the action you want to perform on all the selected emails.
If you change your mind, immediately swipe left with three fingers to undo.

It will never happen, at least not for a while. There's value (to Apple) for having different devices target different market segments. iPhone vs. iPad vs. Mac. Each attracts buyers differently. Once you blend them together, some buyers may be feeling that they are paying for something that they don't need.
I agree that it's unlikely for MacBooks to get touch screens, tho. I think it's more from a usability consistency angle rather than artificial segmentation. MacBooks are Macs, which includes the Mini, iMacs and Mac Pros. Even for MacBooks, many MacBook users connects external displays. Having only the main MacBook's screen touch capability while the external monitors does not, makes for a confusing user interface experience. I think, until such times when touch screens are standards across all screens and a standard is defined to communicate the touch inputs back to the computers, touch screens in Macs would not be a possibility.

For iPads, I think it is the same. I think that's why iPad Pros could only mirror instead of extend the display to external monitors. I think even with the M1 iPad Pros with TB3, it would continue to be so. It'll be impossible or difficult to control UI elements shown in the external display.

Even if it came with a 1080P screen, the speakers and mic cost a pretty penny. That's the real special sauce with the iMac.
