Well done! My MacBook Pro 13” 2017 is a dram machine and thanks to eGPU is awesome! Now just update the mini

New MBP is the best Mac I’ve ever used and I’ve owned many Macs. Don’t believe the haters. They’re not using them all day long.

Yeah I was part of that, we'll sort of, well no. Bought a Grade A MacBook Pro Mid 2012 15" i7 2.6 Ghz under $700. The last of the upgradable laptops and I couldn't be happier.

Nothing their selling today catches my interest so it looks like I'll be here for a while until a new CEO is installed and they return to usable laptop without dongles.

I doubt that will happen. I jumped ship in January to an HP, Android phone, and Android Wear watch. Have more capabilities and lots of coin in the pocket. Not sure what I'll do when my iMac dies.

Hahahahahaah! Cook has brought Apple to new levels of wealth and shown them into a new and highly profitable chapter. There's nearly nothing he could do to be replaced right now.

I'll still vote him out @ the next shareholder's meeting. He's not the right man for the job. And the SJW stuff has to stop.

Hard to believe, but these ate facts. So they always find a way to make products more expensive and popular

Rich Chinese students buy Apple products because of the brand. Apple doesn't need to worry as these people keep buying as a fashion symbol.

Thanks everyone, for letting Apple know they can f*** up as much as they want and you will still buy it.

Who else took part in this? I did, I got myself a 2017 Macbook Pro w/TB 512GB.

You should be ashamed.

It‘s been like this for years now when comparing Mac sales with the market as such. Nevertheless this is a great achievement. With some more frequent updates I do believe it could be even more.

I believe the reason we don't see more frequent updates to the Mac lineup, including laptops, is the current state of computer sales.

Why invest a lot of resources in releasing new desktops and laptops when the sales potential keeps falling? Sure, there's money to be made, but it's FAR more profitable to put those resources into smartphones and even tablets, where you'll see much much better returns.

I'm sure many would argue against this thinking but the truth is, this is how business works. Any smart business leader will agree that you invest the majority of your resources in the product that'll bring about the largest return for your investment. Apple (and others for that matter) aren't investing heavily in the desktop and laptop market because those markets return less and are shrinking. To release new laptops every 6 months or even every single year would be stupid in the current climate.

Sucks for the consumer who wants to buy those things but sadly there aren't enough of us that want to buy them to make it worth it for businesses to produce them.

And silly statements like that are why you will never be on the board of any company. No board member in the world who has any clue what they're doing would vote out an insanely successful CEO. Please provide one example of that happening in American business.

Lol, with those margins this was completely expected, most Apple consumers will buy any crap they put out.

Yes. Rich Chinese university freshman carry iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro as a set.

Bad news: They are going to use this as evidence the DerpBar is desired.
Bad news 2: They are going to use this as evidence that their dumpy new keyboard is desired.
Bad news 3: Looking grim for a MacBook Air with smaller bezels and a Retina display –– the only thing we really wanted besides more than 16 GB of RAM and not removing MagSafe and non-USB-C ports.

We need to look for companies that sell good hardware, provide good after sale services, and make laptops that can be turned into a Hackintosh.

Right. People just ignore the stupid touch bar and map escape to a different key.
Yeah, normal people totally know how to do that.

No surprise after how long they let the hardware languish without upgrades. (and still are for some of the products)
That line mAde sense last year when they updated. It’s stale now.

I know this is difficult, but just because YOU and Marco Arment and some other bloggers don’t want something doesn’t mean no one does. Hard to understand that your taste and preferences don’t run the whole world, huh?

I think these are mostly MacBook Airs and MacBook Pro 2015 models.

You're probably right. There is no a breakdown of the Mac sales so we don't know how well the TB MBPs are selling. Sale of redesigned MBPs is likely to be disappointing. The key is the average selling price (ASP). Since Apple sold 5.39 million Macs which brought in $7.17, the ASP is $1,330. This doesn't include sales of accessories or may be even parts. Assuming that accessories and other things accounted for 10% of Mac revenue, the ASP comes down to $1200. The true ASP may be even lower.

This likely means that the majority sales came from the cheaper, low-end: MBA's, 2015 MBP, and low end iMacs. For a $2000 TB-MBP, there were two $1000 MBAs were sold etc. I think that the general silence about the TB-MBPs says that a solid majority of Mac users can't or don't want to pay more than $1500.

I wish they would put more into the computer market. I would actually prefer larger laptops - the always smaller and lighter mantra is fine for the MacBook Airs but for the MacBook Pro I want solid performance and more weight is not bad. I like the weight and feel of my old 2010 MacBook Pro. What I would like is more battery, more ports, more memory, more processors, more system storage (SSD), a big bright screen and real function keys. The keyboard on the 2010 MBP is also better than the newer units - a matter of feel although the dust collection under keys is a problem Apple needs to work on which could also make it waterproof if done right.

Thankfully business travelers and Jony Ive doesn't share your feelings.

I hope we see some form of 32 GB config in 2018.

The lack of a 32Gb model is what is stopping me from replacing my 2012 rMBP.

I've already begun to move some of my devices to USB-C (hard disk enclosures that used that living abortion called micro-USB-3 replaced by USB-C models) & I've been carrying around the same dongles (ethernet, VGA, DVI, USB-serial) without losing any so moving to USB-C and needing dongles or a multi-port dock doesn't bother me much.

I just need more RAM than the 16Gb I've had for 5 years & a larger internal flash drive to account for the inflation in VM sizes.

Yech, no. The Pre-retina MBP's were boat anchors. I could use a supplementary USB-C or even better a USB-3 port in a 2018 rMBP to make the migration to USB-C easier but performance & battery life were already sufficient in the retina models and I carry around my mac every day.

SSDs? Again no. I prefer freeing Apple from the restraints of backwards compatibility so that they can give use the faster PCI interfaces. M2 drives might be OK but not SATA SSD's you seem to be referring to. I don't think that 2Tb is too small. Too expensive, OK, but not too small.

As for the keyboard, I've found the adaptation to the newer shallow keyboards to not be much of a problem when I've used MacBooks.

What it really sounds like is that you bought a non-Retina MBP and want it modernised without changing any of the major characteristics. It won't happen.

How? Their latest laptops aren't exactly the best products they've ever made and the competition is now producing better machines.

The biggest thing that I've seen holding people back from replacing rMBPs that are now showing some wear like mine is that Apple was unable to come out with 32Gb models because Low Voltage RAM was limited to 16Gb on Intel's chipsets. When Intel at last starts selling chipsets that will allow Apple to use >16Gb of RAM without resorting to hotter thirstier desktop RAM, I expect Apple will see a significant uptick in sales.

Resorting to desktop RAM in order to get around Intel's 16 Gb Low Voltage RAM limitations is _NOT_ producing better machines.

I agree give us the FatMacBook Pro.... I would buy one, not everybody wants these size zero skinny Macs..... give us 24 hour battery, more SSD or large HD disk, Ports, more cores, more ram.....

Naah. Honestly the HP has been as reliable than all my Macs were. Touchscreens on laptops are awesome and the 2-in-1 form factor is actually quite good. Win10 is serviceable. Saving $1k over a Macbook and getting much more is very desirable. It didn't used to be that way!

Android is also quite good and the Google ecosystem is also quite good.

Yeah, normal people totally know how to do that.

Congrats. According to some here, you apparently should be flogged because they don’t like the keyboard as much as you.
It's mechanically inferior and prone to breaking.
And some people don't like the feel of it..

Yes they are the best.

This is like all the people that said it was all doom-and-gloom for Final Cut Pro X.
