^^^ definitely something going on here , page two indeed , more over the more i read these forums the more I'm inclined to think they will put out all the software before hand ,like we have seen with 10.5.3 and possibly .mac too ..then , maybe one or two more software 'updates' before WWDC with a major machine release or two on the day( please not just a telephone though eh!)

It's about time to! And I hope there is a pretty big price drop. There are plenty of other free services, or very cheap services avaliable that do the same thing. Hell Windows Live now offers most of what .mac does for no cost at all!

I find all of the talk about .mac pricing to be pretty obnoxious.

Yes, it's expensive ... but that's not the half of it.

Like many .mac users, I feel locked in ... I've had it so long that moving away from my e-mail address is just too much of a hassle.

But, again, it's not just the money ... it's the fact that .mac e-mail is THE SINGLE WORST E-MAIL SERVICE ON THE PLANET.

You guys have no idea how pathetically unreliable it is ... yesterday it was down for EIGHT FREAKING HOURS. And that's not all that unusual.

The webmail client sucks.

All of you people excited that now it might be less expensive and include more services -- you're suckers. Don't get drawn in. Apple had a small user base and a big pot of cash and they couldn't make .mac mail work ... how the hell are they going to do a better job with a more complicated system and more users?

Don't pick up the crack pipe, people, I beg of you.

YAMMV

Been using it for three years and never had significant problems. Nothing near the poor e-mail provided by my ISP - which I just don't use. Some minor disruption right now using the mail app (first time I've had that happen) - but the webmail client still works and my iPhone is still sending and receiving mail fine.

I like the webmail client. No flashing screaming adds plastered all over the place.

I totally agree with the opinion that .mac email is the worst and most unreliable email I have ever used. I could pick any of the free services and they would be 10,000 times better than .mac. I will not be renewing my service unless it is for sync and other services; .mac email is a complete joke.

In a little sense, I agree that .Mac is lacking big time compared to other email clinets

On the other hand, I have had my .Mac email for 2 years now and can't remember the last time my email was "down" like it was the other day. I find it very reliable to be honest

I have started using my GMail account more often though

If true, I hope that there is no change to the "@mac.com" email addresses. I could do without the hassle of amending various online accounts.

The only thing I can get my head around is that Apple Corporate employees get @apple.com email addresses whilst Retail employees get @mac.com addresses which are for official use only - this is discussed on other websites by Apple and former employees. This may double as a way to clear the @mac registry in order to fully accomodate their retail business employees. If the @mac addresses are still available to the general public it would open up a whole load of problems for Apple with scams and junk mail being possible.

Adding to the fact that @me or whatever its finally named may be supported by adverts from the regional Apple online stores and retail outlets means the service will in the end be Apples big social networking site.

Should Apple rebrand the .mac service as MobileMe, my hunch is that they would allow for an easy way to use custom domains with the service, much in the way that GoogleApps functions. For instance, my company's email is currently hosted by gmail, but I receive mail at me@mycompany.com rather than me@gmail.com.

I would also think that if not now, then at least when the next release of iWork is due, some of those programs will have online counterparts. As Google, Adobe, and Microsoft all enter cloud based computing services, it would seem like it's time for Apple to move in that direction as well. Especially now that they have a great mobile device like the iPhone and possibly even a tablet down the road.

I can only hope that whatever new features MobileMe brings, Leopard will support using multiple MobileMe/.mac accounts simultaneously. I have a personal .mac account and a work .mac account, but I can only use one at a time, and I think there would be a lot of benefit if users could easily sync both their work and personal data beteween their computers.
