I used a IIsi for as long as I could remember as a child. Ended up donating it a few years ago even though it still worked.

We ended up getting a Quadra some time after that. Still running.

Upgraded to the G3 Bondi Blue iMac in 1998. I think the CRT/logic board fried. I was in my early teens at the time and I remember rolling around on the floor when I got it for Christmas. It was exactly what I wanted.

Upgraded to an Indigo G3 iMac in 2002. Still running strong besides CRT lines.

Upgraded to the Aluminum iMac 2.4GHz in 2007. Still strong and mostly my faimily's computer.

Upgraded to the Aluminum MB 2GHz in 2008. I barely use my iMac anymore.

or a 25th anniversary imac :D

They could take a leaf out of the original 20th aniversary mac and use these specs:

1.6Ghz ATOM Processor
512Mb Nvidia GPU
Hardware H.264 acceleration
17" glossy LCD screen with 1280 x 800 resolution.
2Gb of non-upgradable RAM
160Gb non-upgradable Intel X-25 SSD
Blu-ray/DVD-RW combo drive
Built-in Digital TV/DAB Radio tuner
Mini-display port for external display
Built-in Webcam and microphone
An external 2.1 amplified speaker system with a propitiatory connector to avoid having internal speakers. This will "always" be on full when you start it up.

It would also come pre-loaded with every Paulie Shore film and the complete back catalogue of Nickelback.

...and you can't delete them.

naturally it would have no firewire ports

and all for the same price as the entry level mac pro.

:D

Well, since we're sharing histories.

IBM 600e (refurb) -> IBM T20 (refurb) -> IBM T23 (refurb) -> iBook G4 12"-> PowerBook G4 15" (refurb) -> MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo (refurb)

And I don't have any of them except for the iBook because family members kept borrowing my older machines after I upgraded. My 600e disappeared, the T's were taken apart and made into one machine by my Dad, and my PowerBook was dropped by my brother.

:apple:

So, let's play "What's wrong with this picture?"

Something is amiss with the photo leading off this article. Can anyone spot it?

For 1 thing that's nort an Apple-branded Mac bag!

2 words... Carmen Sandiego

Happy Birthday old friend

Mmmm... Where in the world is Carmen, these days?

Technically, the VHS video was done in 1983, not 1984.

Yes, that's right! The bits filmed in our Computer Plus Sunnyvale store were made in late November 1983.

Do da name "Kensh Rutha" strike a familiar note?

Apples since 1984

First Apple, a //c....now about 25 Macs later. The best thing is I still have all of them but the LCII...and they all still work! The Mac II has blown a RAM chip and although it starts up it resists my attempts to get to the desktop screen. Haven't tracked any Mac II ram down yet.

It's been a great ride, with more to come.:):)

25 years ago today, I drove over to Computer Plus, a store owned by Woz's brother, and purchased a brand new Mac (128K). I still have the original box somewhere in storage. However the Mac was later modified to a 512Ke, then eventually had a 10 MB Hyperdrive added, and is thus no longer completely original.

At the Computer Plus store, they said people would come up to a Mac, pick up the mouse, and try to touch the glass display with the mouse to do something. That's sort of an intuitive precursor to iPhone touchscreen user interaction.

I just dusted it off and plugged it in. Still boots 25 years later.

I co-owned Computer Plus with Mark Wozniak (actually there were 3 equal partners). My wife, Lucy managed that store.

What's your name-- we prided ourselves on knowing our customers on a first-name (and last-name) basis.

You're right... the mouse/GUI was so different (and so easy) that that experienced computer nerds of that era couldn't figure out what to do!

25th Anniversary?

I will only celebrate this anniversary if Apple does celebrate too. I will even throw a small party and have a cake with a message "Happy 25th Anniversary Macintosh" that would be a nice treat , but never mind.

One of the things I remember of 1984, was attending a session on programming, in San Francisco-- I think it was at the Computer Faire.

One speaker, an Indian (from India) was stunning: dressed entirely in white, in native shirt, pants, a kind of robe and a white turban. He had a long, flowing red beard.

He was from a 3rd-party software developer (I forget which one). What he said was as true today as it was then.

Paraphrased: "Everything that comes after, will stand on the shoulders of the Macintosh."

Happy Birthday Mac!
I'm a recent switcher (end of 2007), and I have been really happy since! Whenever I see someone using anything else, I wonder how they can use it :p

it just go to show the brilliance of Jobs who then in 1988 brought out the first NeXT computer which was leaps and bounds ahead of this junk!! I just wish Apple did all their manufacturing in the states but then we probably couldn't afford to buy one.
