Anyone still uses Apples maps? Here in Europe they are more or less completely useless. POI are almost always missing, and the few that exists are on the wrong place.

instead of wasting money away on silly games like plants vs zombies.. apple should redirect those funds into more important things like fixing their own broken apps.

ps.. funny how some people here defend apple maps like it's their own child.

Their is always going to be the odd mapping mistake but you would have to be not fully in control if you drive onto a runway and may be shouldn't be driving at all.

I used Apple Maps once on my wife's phone. The odd thing was although Maps correctly identified the location of the hotel I was going to I was directed to go nowhere near where the Pin was on the map. I ended up in an alley behind a church.

I've noticed a definite improvement in Maps within Australia over the past few weeks.

Airports no longer have their names randomly swapped around, and I'm no longer directed to drive onto mine sites on the way home.

It's been a big improvement over a short space of time, fixing problems that existed since the iOS6 Beta. Clearly they've hired some local "ground truth" staff.

Mainly because the US is so paranoid. Most countries are a bit more relaxed out things.

And most countries haven't had the tallest building in their largest city taken down by terrorists flying passenger planes into them. Or had the headquarters for their defense department attacked by a hijacked plane with a group of suicidal degenerates. Or being threatened to be attacked again by terrorist groups. But other than that, yeah, the US is paranoid.

This is so funny but oh so sad. After a year Apple's maps seem to have only marginally improved and they are so slow to fix egregious well-known errors. Big ones.

As an aside, my dad has been complaining to Apple to get his business listed for a year now, and yes, it is listed in Yelp but it doesn't make any difference. It's very frustrating for us.
One would imagine that Apple has a fair amount of resources concentrated on fixing the map issues but then the flood of things in need of a fix must still be at this stage so overwhelming that adding business listings, especially smaller ones, are most likely at the bottom of the queue. But no GPS map nor paper map, at least an outdated one, will ever be completely free of errors and inaccuracies so a use of common sense, and eyes, is required when using them.

I can hear Jony Ives spinning it as innovation already

"We've restructured your airport experience to effectively eliminate the terminal. Thus, making for a beautifully efficient airline boarding scenario"

Well, if any software error called for the Flyover, it's definitely while at an airport. (Just be glad it's Fairbanks, AK, and not JFK, NY.)

Yes this is bad but people need to have some common sense, you don't turn right in the middle of a bridge just because the GPS might tell you to do it.

Well people are stupid. I mean you need to look at where the pin is, and pay attention to where you're driving. Jeez.

But Apple still really does need to do get maps up to snuff.

Now of course this isn't as bad as this story, but you should try Google's new maps preview! It seems many of the directions are completely different to the old/current maps, with it always directing me to unnecessarily use Motroways (highways/freeways), even if it's just for a 5 minute drive around my neighbourhood!!

Apple maps are still terrible. Apparently I continue to live in the the next town down the coast (7 miles away), and so does everyone else here! Its not like the town is new or anything - it's been here since the 11th Century.

It was never about that. Google was demanding access to the data on your phone. Sorry, but someone else's inability to read a sign doesn't outweigh my privacy.
Google wasn't demanding access to the data on your phone.
What they wanted was basically what they ended up getting with the new Google Maps app: user sign-in with a Google account, and Google branding.

Apple's map's haven't improved since iOS 7 went live. They are worse now than when it was originally released.

I recall, back when Apple Maps made its debut (and we were denied Google Maps on our iPhones for a few months), I complained loudly about how Apple Maps sucked in comparison to Google Maps. And I don't even live in Alaska.

There were, of course (as is always the case on this site's forums) dozens of Apple defenders rushing to explain to me why I should no longer have my choice of map apps.

This article made me chuckle. Why the religious die-hards insist that my iPhone should only use an Apple product as my map, I'll never really understand, but it became a moot point several minutes after the new Google Maps app became available. It's still much better, by the way, and thanks very much.

Fanbois, save your breath. The oxygen is wasted upon you.

I love Apple maps. I did download google maps when they rereleased it but I deleted it a month or so afterwards.
The less info Google get the better I think. They only exist by selling advertising.
I am surprised you aren't running Android you seem to love google so much.

You have to be kidding.

There's an international airport in the US with regular jetliner traffic, and any idiot can drive onto an active runway without being challenged? And you guys are quibbling over Google Maps, Tom Tom and Apple? I'm sorry, but at this point I think that to ask me to take off my shoes and surrender my water bottle is just one big joke TSA plays at our expense. Nobody really gives a crap about airline security.

No you guys this was intentional! The new Ferrari that Johnny Ives was in on has the ability to fly... But only if you have the iPad that comes with it correctly installed.

They are too busy diving into an ocean of gold.

Apple Maps is faster than Google Maps but at least here in Spain it's not usable because searches and directions are wrong, street names are wrong, I can't use it to search bus directions and it doesn't have street view to name a few.

Maybe someday Apple will have all of this but then Google will be steps ahead..

Google still beats Apple when it comes to Data. It's sad their relation didn't continue because that would have provided the best user experience.

I live in the UK and cannot fault (my experience of) Apple Maps. In fact, it's more accurate in searching for businesses' locations than Google Maps, you can never get a straight answer with Google. With Apple you get one or two relevant places, with google you get umpteen irrelevant ones.

Oh and what happened to security? After Sarah Palin and now this, what happened Alaska? For shame.
