The difference in those two screenshots is about what I'd get in the wilds of Worcestershire if I'd bothered to update. This whole thing is reminding me of the fuss Sony caused by removing the Linux feature of the PS3. As far as I'm concerned Apple have removed a key feature of the phone. I thought that was illegal.

Google without a doubt, actually i'm shocked at how bad apples maps are! black and white, out of date and places of interest either missing or miles from where they actually are. I'm so happy now I didnt buy the new iPhone 5 its the S3 or Nokia for me.

Google Maps absolutely annihilate Apple Maps. Far more detail, better 2D design, more accurate and STREET VIEW.

At this moment Google Maps by a long while....it takes time to make a good mapping program and Google has been at it for a very long time and keep adding features.

Not sure why Apple dropped Google Maps. Maybe it's the lack of navigation system. On Android it's very convenient that both maps and navigation is tied into the system. I hated having a 3rd party app for navigation because it wasn't convenient to have to type address in, when you should just be able to go into contacts and tap on the address you need to navigate to.

Hoping Apple keeps updating the maps app on a monthly basis, and not just updating on iOS updates........don't know how likely that is though:(

Because it is not theirs, but the belongs to one of their biggest competitors. It might have been a little early, but the decision to do their own was right IMO.

There is no way to just copy in a few month what Google built for many many years.

It will take some time to get up to date, but especially with POIs I see this happening fast as businesses want to be in Apple Maps too and many users will report missing or outdated stuff.

Even the limited functionality (compare with Android) version of Google Maps we had was WAAAY better than this. Clearly we all seem to be beta testers!

I know it's their first attempt, but how about holding off releasing it until it has more polish? I mean, they can't even get places in the correct location, names correct and there's no distinction between main roads and motorways, to name a few issues.

Surely things like this should have never past testing? I mean, they could have just bought an AA road atlas for reference, or dare I say, just look at Google Maps ;)

For where I live in Minnesota, I have found the detail to be higher in Apple maps, and the Traffic / road hazard updates and details are a nice addition.

I do note that businesses sometimes show up in the wrong location on the Apple maps at times, but at least there is a button that allows you to submit the error to Apple. With Google Maps (on the iPhone) there is no way to easily submit errors.

I expect the mapping to get better, however, it would have made more sense to us consumers if Apple had introduced the new maps, with the option of switching to Google if needed / Wanted.

I agree with you, but I guess what I meant to say was why Apple would rush out a clearly unfinished product. It's so un-Apple like. Why not keep Google Maps for awhile and unleash a product that's finished. It seems like it's a big complaint by a lot of Apple users and fans.
