Sounds like they want to make maps available in your browser. This would help get rid of errors because other non-ios/mavericks ppl could use it and report problems.

They'll have to speed up the process of responding to, and correcting those problems though. It currently takes too long. Some users have reportedly pointed out problems to Apple multiple times, without corrective action by Apple for months…..

I'm just going to guess and say that you'll be able to access iMap from icloud.com and get direction.

I really hope that's not the secret, though...

Yeah, because it's really hard doing both at the same time! Things have to be done 1 by 1 to be done properly

Yeah, they did a great job doing both at the same time! It's not like the CEO of Apple had to write an apology letter and recommend competitors apps.....oh wait .

And your proof that working on many projects at once did lead to Maps not being in pair with Google maps is.......??

That's right, you dodn't have any proof!

By the way, I think Apple maps is fantastic! If you think maps service can be great str8 out of the box then I think you are naive!

Proof right here

Try again.

Best solution? Use Google Maps for default!

It took Google a number of years for Google Maps to be accurate and user-friendly. Apple would not have enough resources to work on it to make it comparable.

I fail to see where Tim did say the reason we "fail" to deliver maps is because we were doing so many projects at the same time! Since in your original post, you would prefer Apple to do "ONE PROJECT AT THE TIME" and do it properly.

It was nice try, but am sure you can do better.

So again... can you provide us with the proof please?

Google has thousands of people working on their maps. Apple doesn't even have 100.

They need to focus on getting a core backend team to improve their garbage data before working on the UI (which quite, frankly is pretty good).

It's a simple concept. Not sure why you can't understand.

Same old story!! Google maps have been around for how long? Let me guess...!! 7 years? Was it perfect on the first year? Let me guess again...! Noooo. It's not perfect even now. How long have Apple maps been around? Just over a year. And in many ways is better then Google, though I do admit is still almost usless for many.

My point is: Things like maps service are impossible to be great out of the box, regardless how many resources you dedicate to it. It takes time. What Apple should have done is keep the Google maps until their own maps is just as good or better (which I can see it being better sooner then some may think)

Google did make mistakes and very publicly.

Why hasn't Apple learned from them? They are making the exact same blunders.

Like I said, building a map service to the current standards takes long time. And it is apparent with Apple maps. You surely must agree that Apple maps have vastly improved from the one it was last year.

Apple maps have barely improved in Australia. You still get given some seriously stupid directions and the POIs are still just plain wrong in a lot of cases. And I don't live in some small town in the middle-of-nowhere, I live in a well-known suburb of Sydney. If they haven't got it right here, I'd hate to see what things are like for people living in small towns.

Quite interesting!! I do come from very small country, Albania (Even though I live in UK ) and I have been in a very small towns and cities to see the results even better then the one of Google maps. My only guess would be that on major places/cities there is lot more information/data to be gathered and there is also lot more room for errors and mistakes.

In Manchester where I live Apple maps have been quite good for me but in UK in general I have heard people complaining about it.

Really? That's interesting. My guess is that Australia will remain poorly done in Apple maps for a long time- there's a huge amount of area to cover and heaps of small towns, giving a lot of room for errors to exist. Apple isn't going to prioritise fixing up Apple maps in Australia over more densely populated areas like Europe and the Americas. Google Maps has the market sewn up here and will do for a while I think.
