.. that would make nothing without Apple. Tell me how many stores you know of that just stock products for free.
Tell me which car manufacturer is able to force car part manufacturers to sell in their stores? Ford can't force michelin to sell tires at a ford dealership and take a 30 % cut

Wish I bought Apple stock when Gil Amelio was CEO in the mid-90's. I was fresh out of school and didn't know anything about the stock market then, nor did I have any money to invest. But if I remember right, it was down to $16/share. Now stock has split, and it's at $4xx/share? Where's my time machine?

The stock market is irrationally bullish given the current economic situation. Unemployment at historic levels. Previously profitable businesses closing permanently. Homeowners missing mortgage payments. All this optimism in the markets though just because the president is juicing the Fed and has temporarily halted foreclosures.

Apple haven't really done anything of note since Steve passed. Perhaps the bravest thing they're doing is stepping out to make ARM Macs. That takes some guts or is doomed to fail. Either way this being the only thing of note suggests Cook's tenure will be short-lived.

Really?

If you wait a few years after Job died (some things were surely in the pipeline), you still get:

Apple Music
AirPods
Apple Watch
Apple TV+
Apple Pay

Each of those things could easily be its own business. Just the wearables section of that (AirPods, Beats and Apple Watch) would be a Fortune 150 company. And the announced migration to ARM is definitely going to be no small feat and could be huge.

How is it not the same? Ford built those cars, there wouldn't be an aftermarket for car parts if Ford didn't build those cars. "Ford deserves a cut".

And Ford tends to add a lot of new features after the car is released right? Annual updates for free? Heck, I have a car that the stupid stereo is so integrated into EVERYTHING I physically can't replace it.

Sure would be nice if the auto manufactures had to open up and allow anyone to upgrade the software on their stereo systems though, most of them suck which is why CarPlay and Android Auto are so popular.

But Ford can tack on a 30% charge and and update the price tags.

Would you rather Apple let developers set the price and then they raise it by 30%?

Epic is doomed.
Nah. This will just cause even more [redacted] shyster lawyers to file suits for in excess of $1B against Apple for things that are totally spurious but it does not stop them trying. Apple's coffers are just too tempting to ignore.
It won't be long before the cost of the sheer number of lawyers that Apple has to employ exceeds $1B a year.

New layers rite of passage is to file as many suits against Apple as possible. Win one and they will be set for life. Sad fact of reality these days... until the next revolution when {you fill in the blanks especially if a lawyer has taken you to the cleaners}

Not surprised with all the money they're taking from developers in the app store.
This has been going on for 12 years now. The 30 percent cut has been a condition since the App Store’s inception. Developers gladly joined and prospered. And did so much more than they otherwise would be able to. Just recently (within the last two or three years) big developers has craved for more and gotten greedy. It’s not Apple who’s gone greedy. The 30 percent cut was in place from DAY ONE! It’s Apple’s Store, and they set the rules. Of cause they do. If you don’t like it go and sell your Apps somewhere else. Find another platform. That might be difficult. But that’s NOT Apple’s fault. If you can’t get your business going outside Apple’s App Store, maybe you should reconsider and start another career. The success of the Apple Store shouldn’t be a punished one. If you make a good product and sell it via App Store, you’re most surely guaranteed a great financial success. Why punish Apple who made that success possible???

Can some one please logically explain to me how does a company takes 43 years of innovation and advancement and product inventions to reach $1T in value, then it doubles its value in 1 year during a world wide economic recession?
I would like to add this company is considered a "luxury" brand company and not a necessity.

Apple has sold many more post-skeuomorphic devices than skeuomorphic. Unless customers are being forced to buy at gunpoint, Tim Cook seems to have been good for customers.

Yeah those butterfly keyboards were really good for customers. That being one of a multitude of hardware & software failings under Lord Timmy's watch.

But no alas keep pointing to a ballooning stock price inflated by the unconnected actions of giant corporations & fund managers as the sign that Apple is all good while ignoring all the wrong.

Because Apple is so much more than a “luxury” brand. If you don’t get that I surely understand why you are confused. The value of “it just works”, an “intuitive interface”, a near perfect “ecosystem”, the ease of use of the original “App Store“, and the many free Apple Apps and free General Apple Software that comes with every purchase of an Apple device... yes, that value is truly under appreciated by people who’s not used to the Apple experience, and benefits of being an ongoing Apple customer. That’s why so many stay and gladly give Apple their money. In the long run it’s not about being an expensive luxury BUT an affordable luxury experience. In many aspects it would cost as much, or actually even more, to have that kind of quality experience on other platforms. The greater hassle of getting there is much more obvious, on those other platforms. Apple customers know that. That’s why, and how, Apple has prospered and grown. That growth has accelerated... and to no surprise. The biggest revenue Apple has these days are from services. Consumption of those services has naturally grown when confronted with an epidemic and being isolated. You really shouldn’t be confused.

I hate the butterfly keyboard. Yet people kept buying those machines. So customers, in general, must disagree with me.

Someone looking only at the S&P 500 would have no idea that we have double-digit unemployment and are in the midst of a pandemic-induced recession/depression. Stocks have priced in a LOT of fed intervention and the expectation, which may be unrealistic, that the economy will bounce right back once the pandemic has passed (be it this year or next year).

Well the issue with S&P500 is that the biggest 5 companies of the index has a 50% on avg growth this year , while the rest of the 495 are around -11% (true to Jul31) , so most of the companies didnt recover from the pandemic , BUT the US has the biggest tech companies in the world trading at their stock exchange , and those companies are making money despite (and some due) a pandemic.

In my decade-and-a-half of buying Apple stuff, my 2017 rMBP is probably the most satisfying piece of electronics I've ever purchased... and the keyboard has been totally fine. So, I guess throw that in with the multitude of hardware and software successes under Tim Cook's watch.

Could be. Could be.

Whether or not you think Cook has accompished anything, you can't say that his tenure was short lived.
He's already been in charge for 9 years, that's well beyond any "short-lived" tenure given that the median tenure of a Fortune 500 CEO is 5 years and average is 7 years so his tenure. With stock-prices at all-time high, the Board of Directors aren't going to be removing him anytime soon...
