Well my work has offered to buy me a new computer and I've delayed it for this Tuesday's event. Here's hoping they give an option for the high-end Iris 5200 in the 13" MBPr. From what I've read the performance gains over the 5100 are substantial. Without that I'll have a hard time justifying the MBPr over the MBA.

What are you going to be doing that the 5200 would make a huge difference? 13-inch rMBP will come with Iris 5100, and that's plenty. Can't see how the difference would be a make-or-break thing.

Then you have to soley us apple products.
If you have to use a pc at work u still need the password.
Also security is still quite the issue with fingerprints.
I have the same problem with all the passwords though.
I got like 20+. And i have none written down.
The mini shouldnt get any heavier. I love it for its lightness. Carry it around in my coatpocket all day.
I think most people use ipads on the go. On my work commute ithe train is packed with people using ipads.

I use PC at work. I could be wrong about this but I thought iCloud Keychain stores all your password logins and passwords and your Apple ID unlocks all these. So when I'm at work I assume I open(on the phone) my settings or my iCloud Keychain app and enter in the only password I have to remember and get a list of all the sites I have login info for. In the future, I imagine your fingerprint will unlock it instead of your password. Sort of like what they did for the iTunes store. No more password, just a fingerprint(although I will admit I have heard multiple people complain on the internet about still needing a password, seems like a software thing that could be easily fixed though).

You have 20+ passwords and you don't need to write them down? You are a small minority. I assume, again I could be wrong I don't mean to preach I'm right but at a certain amount of password/login combinations(maybe 10) people get frustrated and get multiple errors logging into sites before they guess the right one. I know I do that all the time. You have to think of how the general public will use this stuff, not me and you the tech enthusiasts on a Apple rumor site who are up to date with everything.

I hope the Mini doesn't get heavier but the iPad 3 with Retina did coming from the 2. We'll find out very soon! :D

I think you're wrong about people using iPads on the go more than at home. Of course on a train you'll see lots of smartphones and tablets and maybe a small amount of laptops. What about all the people that walk or drive to work? Can you honestly tell me that out of all the people you know with tablets the majority of them bring it with them almost on a daily basis? If so, that's shocking to me.

It's funny to see how far apple has fallen behind its competitors. Everyone and their brother already sells a 7 inch full HD tablet and yet apple is having trouble producing one? Yikes.

Apple used to be soooo far ahead in smartphone and tablets. Now they are trailing the pack. And they are falling further and further behind every year.

Sure, we'll leave it there.

Com'on man, people are messing with you. Can't you see? Nothing is going to happen to your thumbprint. It'll be stored locally, in encrypted form, on the chip, and that's it. The day that changes is the day the media will absolutely crush Apple. You can bet they're just praying for that story.

If you ever buy a 5s, be sure to not use any form of credit card – and register it with a fake ID. Your existing Apple ID may have already blown your cover though ;)

You really r naive ,dude. :D
Theres anonymous credit cards where i live.
Noone checks ur details when u sing up for apple ids.

I always doubt touchID is gonna be on either devices. Apple loves to do something like this. They make a good device this year, with some features not included in order to improve it next year. Yet they will still sell a whole lot of it.

Altho touchID is not a deal breaker to me, I will feel the ipad 5 is not "completed". After all, it only serves as a password replacement so won't affect my experience much. (still sad face tho, hope this report is not correct on this one).

For the mini tho, don't expect both retina and touchID on it. I think it's not gonna happen. I do believe it has to have retina.

It's sure going to be a pain though. Going back-and-forth between a passcode (not to mention sliding and unlocking) and a fingerprint scanner is not going to be so great.

Another day, another analyst. I would rather use the evidence shown in this video by Unboxtherapy to decide if I feel there will be Touch ID in the next iPad/iPad Mini. Perhaps only the iPad 5 will have Touch ID...see the video doubters!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6zEOiPlYtw
yes, I think this is pretty convincing evidence that touch id will be in the next Ipad. I seem to remember similar images posted on Macrumors before suggesting the same conclusion.

Touch ID to do what? Unlock and remember password for App Store?
those two things alone would be already very convenient. but there are other possible uses for touch id on an ipad. Ipads have different usage patterns from the iphones. They are quite often multi-user devices used by several family members. Apple could use Touch Id as a sort of parental control with different applications accessible to different users with touch id as the authentication method. if they choose to open it to third party developers there is even bigger potential but this is not likely to happen short term.

Is that really a deal breaker?

considering that they more than likely have the resources to implement it right now instead of next year, then it can be for some.

it's the same money-saving strategy as with iphone 5c. components will be cheaper to make next year, so they'd be able to implement it then, and charge the customers the same price without thinking twice (as usual) about having to lower the prices of their products. just like with the device's storage. how long has it been since the first 16gig iphone came out? we're in 2013, and still paying same price for a 16gig device on a contract. the 32gig 5s should be the bare minimum for a $200 model. Who really cares about last year's 5c and its $200 32gig model? the news articles show that not as many people as apple initially thought.

again, this is just a hypothetical, because we don't know for sure whether apple will be selling the next ipad with or without touchid, but judging by their past actions, it wouldn't be surprising if they leave it out.

Please tell me who "they" is that is taking away "peoples" money. Please. Whether money is a piece of paper or a digital connection, if "they" want to "take it away from you", then "they" can do so, unless you're burying your cash in some secured spot in the mountains.

Frankly, you should be more worried about "they" being big businesses and banks "taking" your money than some conspiracy theory of government secret agencies stealing our money and identities so that we do what exactly?

Oh yes, so they can control us as if we were robots to do their bidding.

Now u r at it with your conspiracies again!
And robots being controlled and your money in the mountains :D
The EU blocked and confiscated bank accounts in cyprus about a year ago.
They didnt do that to people with cash. They also did this despite it being illegal.
Thats why cashless payments r dangerous. You lose controll over whats yours.
Also Sweden, Israel, Italy and France have cash payment limits.
"They" means whoever might be in the position to abuse power.

 I think you're trying to say we should go back 100 years and go back to just carrying cash and coins on us. You're crazy! :p Get rid of the credit card and debit card because the government might take all my money right? Maybe I should just take all my money out of the bank and ask my employer to pay me in cash.

I think u might be right. Maybe most people do use them at home.
For me its just the whole point of an ipad to have it with me while not at home.
If at home why not use a mac. Bigger screen after all.
Thats why i never understood the wifi-only version.
I also have an ipad hanging in my car :D

Unaddressed is Apple's Mac Pro, which is expected to be given its full introduction on Tuesday in advance of a launch before the end of the year,

NO! It was introduced back in June already!! They're just trying to delay it again.

:) These comments always make me smile. So funny.

More like 20 years in most european countries.
When I was a kid noone even knew credit cards.
Most people I know soley use cash. A lot dont even own a bank card!
Maybe you should ask him to pay u in cash.
I am not saying all cashless payments are bad, but there needs to be awareness of the dangers.
Cash payments always need to be an available option!
And yes. the bank/government can and will take your savings away!
Just look at what happened in cyprus. That was a precedent.

It's disappointing to see how much of this thread is devoted to theoretical government plots regarding touch ID and how little is devoted to the refreshed MacBooks.

Giving a company your unchangeable fingerprint to id you is one oft the stupidest things for anyone to do ever!

Pray tell how? A hashed version of your fingerprint data is stored in a secure area on the A7 processor. Apple doesn't have access to that. If this isn't the case, then please explain.

Your hyperbole serves your argument poorly.

I wouldnt call it a hyperbole. At least not an intentional one.
I admit you have a point here.
My understanding is: if its on the chip theres a way to access it easily via a software backdoor.
But then, i am not familiar with A7 architecture. I am also not a computer scientist.
People who r agreed with me though.
So it might be safe, but i wouldnt chance it.

My comment seemed to have struck a nerve here cuz people are reacting strongly.
Bottom line: careful where you give your fingerprints. Its a bad habit to get into.

----------

I'm pretty sure they will have fingerprint sensors, at least big ones

I think the big one will have one, the mini wont.
I will still buy the big one cuz my mini is still perfectly fine.

The Gold sold so dam well...

in fact, its sold too well Apple was in short supply .....

Strange.... Tight supply of the 5s, and not getting enough 5C... (edit. sounds like you didn't get enough OJ)

Looks like problems all round...

Yeah I probably don't need the 5200 after all. Now I'm more undecided about screen size #

I like this time of year when we have an event in front of us, and we are guessing and hoping for Apple to give us what we want.

At the same token we need to take these rumors as a grain of salt. Not get too high or too low.

Apple will release the products at their pace and when they are ready. That is the way they do things now.:apple:

A complete guess but I imagine like 80% of iPads are sitting in peoples homes. I think a small minority brings them along everywhere. All the people I know with iPad's (+5) all of them leave them at home. It's basically a laptop replacement for them.

.

are you kidding me? Go to college campus, the iPad is becoming as common as any macbook, and the plummeting sales of MacBooks back what I say.

Have you been to airport or coffee shop recently? again, I see more iPads then I do laptops, maybe the people YOU know don't take it out the house, but this 80% number you just pulled out of your ass is laughable.

iPads r becoming more and more common.
Nevertheless at least in europe a lot of people still use notebooks on the go.
Also iPad wifi-onlys r selling pretty good, too.
And those r used at home.

In 2011, 70% of iPad usage occurred in houses – in the lounge to be specific. >60% of iPads never left the home.

Although I'm sure those figures will have changed, it won't be too significant in <2 years. The iPad 2 had been out for 8 months at the time of the article, so no monumental breakthroughs since the survey – even now.
