I hope Touch ID is included. While some think it isn't a breakthrough feature, it is for those of us who's company email requires a "complex password". I work in healthcare and due to privacy laws if I want work email on my devices, they have to have a 6 or more digit complex password containing both letters and numbers. Try and see how much fun it is to type one of those in every time you want to get on your phone. Touch ID on my iPhone easily saves me 20 minutes a day and what seems like hours of frustration.

if there's no touch id in the next ipad, then there's no point in buying it. there's no reason that apple can't implement it in the new ipad.

If Apple want to keep the iPad Mini as an entry level model (with existing or lower pricing), then they should retain the existing model or introduce plastic casing like the iPhone 5C (perhaps with less vulgar colours). Plastic casing isis more in line with competitor models. Then they could have the premium model, be it the 'iPad Mini Pro' or the 'iPad Mini with Retina Display'. Just because the iPad 5 may be bigger in size, shouldn't make it automatically the flagship model.

lol

It's also a pain for those who have an iPhone 5s and are accustomed to using the fingerprint scanner instead of a passcode. We're going backwards here people!

I want to see updated Macs, could careless for tablets, they are already refreshed often enough right :p..

I'm waiting for a Mac Mini update :D

As an armchair analyst, I predict:

The iPad 5 will have Touch ID. The iPad Mini 2 won't have Touch ID.

The iPad will have an A7X chip and the iPad Mini 2 will have an A6 or A6X chip.

The iPad Mini 2 will have a retina display.

Just read on another rumor site that the new Mac Pro has supply chain issues and is being pusehd back until "early next year". I hate this!!! Rumors on rumors!!!:(

Can't wait to ditch my current iPad Mini for an iPad 5 with the new form factor.

If it comes in Space Grey and has TouchID that'll sweeten the pot even more.

really would have liked touch ID, much easier to steal an iPad then an iPhone which is always in the pocket

State of Apple - 15 minutes

iPad 5 - new size, upgraded specs to iPhone 5s, colors (space gray and silver white) - maybe category (touch ID and gold color) - 10 minutes

iPad mini 2 - upgraded specs to iPhone 5, colors (space gray and silver) - maybe category (touch ID, gold color, Retina, iPhone 5s specs, iTouch colors) - 10 minutes

Mavericks OS X - Date Availability and Price - 15 minutes

Mac Pro - Data Availability and Price - 15 minutes

Possible left for updated ipod line, accessories like ipad covers, 4k screen for mac pro, updated mac book pro, Apple TV update, and finally a new product like a 12' macbook air touch. - 15 minutes

Finally a musician. That's 1 1/2 hours folks. - 10 minutes

Yes. That´s quite likely, actually. It wouldn´t have enough GPU performance for a retina display, though. Because that´s even less than the iPad 3 had, which got replaced by the iPad 4 with a much faster A6X.

Therefore I predict the following:

iPad mini (A6, no retina) - price reduction to $299 (WiFi - 16GB)
iPad mini (A7, retina) - starts at $499 (WiFi - 16GB)
iPad (A7X, Retina) - starts at $699 (WiFi - 16GB)

No way Apple would increase the price of the iPad by $200, I see some changes in iPad mini 2 pricing but not the iPad.

Why not the iPad Mini getting the A6X?

Those are Euro prices right?

Don't you love when people just talk out of their ass about something they know nothing about. So sick of reading statements like this one. Did you ever think that it's a strategic business move, that this is brand new and reliable(from what I've read, no one has implemented a fingerprint sensor even remotely close to how good Apple has) technology that they just can't make enough of. Where do you think the majority of the money Apple makes comes from? The iPhone. If, and a big if since I'm talking out of my ass as well, they are low on producing the fingerprint sensors(which makes sense, look how low supply they iPhone 5s has been) then it completely makes sense to NOT include it in the new iPad. At least not this year. Next year: of course. It'll be probably THE big addition to the iPad since it's gotten the new, beautiful thinner form factor this year + being lighter. Do I wish they added it to the iPad? Of course. Am I going to be mad about it? Of course not, I can logically see why as a business they are doing it and I would have done the same.

Its utter madness to want to pay with fingerprints instead of cash.

I hate cash. I hate change even more. I can't wait until the day that I don't need to carry around a wallet anymore. Of course I see the security risks that come with it but I also see that this is version 1, wait until 2-3 years from now the tech will get better I imagine. Think of how secure it was to pay with credit card a few years ago... no security at all. Just swipe the card at a store and fake a signature. Easy. Over the years, things changed, for the better. Now we have pin codes needed for purchases. Maybe in the future we'll have pin+fingerprint be mandatory for payments. Seems a bit paranoid NOW to be judging it. Why not wait to judge the tech when it's actually available for payment at stores.

Its not just americans.
Its baffeling, that people choose to be completely ignorant of whats going on around them.
The people on this forum seem to be very young which counts as somewhat of an excuse.
I am not even saying that apple is plotting to harm anyone.
But you should not be excited about using your fingerprint as id or payment method. There doesnt need to be a "conspiracy". This can just be abused to easily.

Won't somebody please think of the children?!

It's not about being breakthrough feature or not, it's about selling you the next iPad (6). While spec-upgrades are nice, they are mandatory as well, therefor they will sell you TouchID as a "feature" for the ipad6. This is not bad, just business. If they give you all the good stuff immediately, you may have problems to motivate people to buy the successor.

I always doubt touchID is gonna be on either devices. Apple loves to do something like this. They make a good device this year, with some features not included in order to improve it next year. Yet they will still sell a whole lot of it.

Altho touchID is not a deal breaker to me, I will feel the ipad 5 is not "completed". After all, it only serves as a password replacement so won't affect my experience much. (still sad face tho, hope this report is not correct on this one).

For the mini tho, don't expect both retina and touchID on it. I think it's not gonna happen. I do believe it has to have retina.

A complete guess but I imagine like 80% of iPads are sitting in peoples homes. I think a small minority brings them along everywhere. All the people I know with iPad's (+5) all of them leave them at home. It's basically a laptop replacement for them.

I don't think it's about stealing as much as it is being out of the house. In the house the device has an extremely small chance of getting stolen. You house would have to be robbed. Outside, it could get stolen but the bigger worry is you'll forget it somewhere. At the office, in a taxi, at a restaurant, on the train, in your car visibly seen by people walking by as it sits in your cup holder.

Bravo (slow clap). Someone gets it. Too many people either can't figure it out or for some reason can't understand it. I like it think it's very simple: don't like it? Don't buy it. Vote with your wallet.

I would be perfectly fine with a ipad retina but thin and like the mini.
Dont change a fantastic :apple: product.

I use my ipad 90% on the go. Also as a laptop replacement.

So now the question is how much heavier will the Mini get with that bigger battery?

Current weight: 0.68 lb(308 g)
My guess(and hope): no heavier than 0.77 lb(350 g)

The lightest 9.7" iPad was the iPad 2 @ 1.325 lb (601 g). If it would get down to 1.10 lb(500 g) that would be amazing coming from the iPad 3/4 @ 1.44 lb (650 g).

My point wasn't about how me or you use an iPad, it was how does the general public use an iPad. My guess is it's at home mostly, maybe I'm wrong but everyone I know doesn't have to worry about security on their iPad because they're being used at home mostly.

I still see the value in putting in the fingerprint sensor in iPad's in the future: multiple accounts(could never see Apple doing this though, they want to sell every family member an iPad of course;)) or just for iTunes purchases. But the big one: iCloud Keychain! That will be huge. If I never have to remember a password and my fingerprint can unlock all my banking logins, website logins that will be amazing. The amount of different passwords and logins I have to remember is ridiculous. I've started writing them down which I know is very dangerous but some sites have totally different password requirements. I probably have like 5+ passwords mixed with different login names+login e-mails addresses.

Then you have to soley us apple products.
If you have to use a pc at work u still need the password.
Also security is still quite the issue with fingerprints.
I have the same problem with all the passwords though.
I got like 20+. And i have none written down.
The mini shouldnt get any heavier. I love it for its lightness. Carry it around in my coatpocket all day.
I think most people use ipads on the go. On my work commute ithe train is packed with people using ipads.

"Conspiracy theorist" is an assaulting term intended to insult when people challenge your opinion.
I was merely pointing out dangerous possibilities and referenced history.
I think the conspiracy is in your head and you can leave it there if you like.

Sure, we'll leave it there.

Its utter madness to want to pay with fingerprints instead of cash.

Com'on man, people are messing with you. Can't you see? Nothing is going to happen to your thumbprint. It'll be stored locally, in encrypted form, on the chip, and that's it. The day that changes is the day the media will absolutely crush Apple. You can bet they're just praying for that story.

If you ever buy a 5s, be sure to not use any form of credit card – and register it with a fake ID. Your existing Apple ID may have already blown your cover though ;)
