Technically he is 100% wrong about the iPad 5 as Apple won't release an iPad 5 if they stick to the current naming conventions. But lets assume he gave the middle finger to correct naming conventions and he is calling the soon to be released iPad - iPad 5

Slimmer iPad 5th gen
I agree

iPad 5th gen - slim bezel
Very possible. But I can see Apple sticking with the current one too.

iPad Mini2 - Retina
Very possible. But also I can see it not happening if Apple want to keep the iPad and the Mini differentiated.

Better iPad camera
Very possible. I agree. I don't think it'll be on par with the 5s camera unfortunately.

No finger print sensor
I disagree. I think the full iPad will have it and the Mini will not.

MBP Retina upgrades
I agree but they will be a footnote if anything ro a silent upgrade just like the iMacs were.

The iPad Mini is not a higher end tablet as of now, and if they will keep this way of thinking about it, there are not many chances to see either Touch ID or the gold color option an rumored. Touch ID is not on the 5c, so most likely won't make it to the Mini 2.

I had to register to ask you guys, what do you think of this image?

Let me introduce myself. I'm brand new to the Apple scene and the iPad 5th Gen. will be my first iPad - I'm so excited! I've been following a few websites for leaks and information, 9to5Mac, Cult of Mac, Apple Insider and of course Mac Rumors. I've also been scouring twitter to find any information I can find. Ctechcn have popped up a few times. They've even got gold case leaks, so how credible does this image look to you guys? Doesn't the iPad 5th Gen. seem to have Touch ID integrated into it? Am I reading into the image too much?

Sorry for the long post! Hopefully someone can shed some light onto it?

If either of the iPads get TouchID, I expect it will just be the full fat version, so the pictures make some sense.

It also creates somewhat of a dilemma for me. I am in the market for an iPad and was thinking of an iPad Mini. If that doesn't get TouchID and the larger one does, I may have to get the larger one.

TouchID has been a revelation to me. I assumed it would be a bit of a gimmick but in fact - as others have posted - it works so well that I think I would miss not having it on an iPad. I can certainly sympathise with those who find themselves expecting their iPad to magically unlock.

If that's the way things go, I may think about getting rid of my MBA as I'm also in the market for an iMac or Mac Mini so would be able to manage without a laptop. More to the point, if I went travelling, I would not take both MBA and iPad with me

Given that they are likely to showcase Mavericks as well, I wonder whether the event will have 2 parts. One part is an iPad event and the other an OSX event focused on the pro user. This would showcase the new MBPs as well as the new Mac Pro and would go down well with those who think Apple are ignoring them. They could also release a couple of new pro software packages as well?

Not sure how reliable that picture is. Those gold iPad parts Ctechcn posted were as just as gold as the white wall behind them ;)

If you messed around with the white balance, it was actually just silver parts looking very yellow.

Just remember what I have said in two posting before....................

Apple will read forums such as these.................

If there is ANY big thing that's being expected that they know they will not be delivering, and will be a bit of a letdown on launch day............

Apple WILL leak news stories to do their best to kill expectations of thing they won't be offering to do their best to diminish such expectations.

You know full well they would do this.

So if anything we're looking forward to, suddenly gets a glut of leaks to kill the expectation just before launch, you can assume this is what's happening.

Welcome to MacRumors KingBenneth! Unfortunately I can't give you the answer you're looking for. From that 'leaked' picture it appears that the portrayed iPad5 looks to have TouchId, but not the Mini, which appears to have the current version home button.

Even though in my mind, that is a plausible possibility, in general these leaked photos have a very mixed track record of reliability, they are so easy to 'doctor', so I wouldn't attach too much credibility to them. The good news is that in a couple of days, we'll know what's real and what's not.

If the new iPad doesnt have TouchID the you can bet that in 6 months time, they will release an iPad 5s with TouchID. They wont wait for another year before adding that functionality

Many thanks! I was thinking the exact same thing, it's only another two days until we find out all the specs and juicy details about the new iPad - not long now!

I was going to purchase the iPad 5, but I've cancelled those plans due to iOS 7.

I don't care how powerful or sexy the hardware is, I'm not going to use an OS that OFFENDS me.

True, clearly they are just kidding...

he didnt even want to touch the iGPU vs dPGU argument on the 15" rmbp lol. I don't blame him, it really could go either way =\

Or probably because no one knows what the rMBP is going to boast.
My hunch is that the release was delayed in order to Intel develop a more powerful iGPU specifically to it.

----------

If Touch ID doesn't get to the iPad just yet blame supply constrains. And I hope they finally increase the minimum size to 32GB on the large iPad (if they put the A7 on the mini, that is).

One more thing... why in the world should you want a motion coprocessor in a tablet?!

I'm actually quite surprised to see MBA outselling MBP and rMBP by a large margin (in most Qs). Even if if we look at this forum, the number of active users viewing MBA's subforum is always half or third that of MBP's.

Maybe the MBA is too perfect already so no one needs to discuss them?
And the MBP's subforum is filled with 1240124 threads daily asking when the Haswell one is coming?

Well all those predictions come with a 'rationale for our prediction', so these are the things Kuo *thinks* Apple *ought to* do, don't see anything in there which even hints at having inside information, or supply chain analysis, which says any more than that.

Looking at some of the rationales they are to 'be on a par with competitors', something Apple tends not to give a fig about.

Likewise the no touch sensor, no gold, is based on the unsubstantiated rumour that touch sensors were in tight supply and Apple doesn't have enough gold paint.

So .. this is just as much guessing as the rest of us have been doing.

Nope. Probably because rMBP is so much more expensive than the MBA. Plus we have power users in the forum, and that doesn't quite happen in the real world.

1.Mini + Retina + A7 = shut up and take my money^^:D
2.Macbook Pro 15 without Gpu = wait till 2014 to see next Air.
3.MacBook Pro 15+ Real Gpu = See point 1:D

I'm stoked about mini w/ Retina.... but to be clear- NOBODY is " doing it in similar form factor and at a lower pricepoints"... this analyst must've been drunk or lacks basic math skills. Nexus 7- 1280x800 = 1,024,000 pixels. Mini- 2048x1536 = 3,145,728 pixels.
In what world are these "on par"... that is less than 1/3 of the mini's display specs. If Apple sold a mini at over 3 times the cost we wouldn't say the costs were "on par" with competition.... What gives??

What gives is you are comparing using the 2012 Nexus 7 numbers rather than the 2013 version and are looking at the number of pixels rather than pixel density.

No Touch ID? If true this doesn't make sense. The technology is there, even more space available, people ready to afford it and no cannibalization of the iPhone at all....

Touch ID to do what? Unlock and remember password for App Store?
I'm fine with remembering my passwords which we have all been doing for years

I'm ecstatic about mini with retina. Question is, which processor? That will then determine which one I'd get :apple:

I have to agree. Though I do think touch ID makes more sense on the phone since you are more likely to loose it, on the iPad not so much. I use iPad more at home or when I am traveling. On the other hand iPhone is with me with every step I take, 24/7

Pretty much that.
Touch ID doesn't really make sense until iCloud Keychain is released.
And I seriously expect they adopt both of them in next year's rMBP :D

Of course they won't have it on the iPad. Did the iPad get siri when it was released? They need to sell this iPhone.

I use an iPad at work and I have to say that I think several people probably know my password because in meetings they all watch as only a few of us have iPads. I'd like an iPad Mini as it's easier to carry around. I really want TouchID because of password security but also, it's more like to be stolen from where I work (I work in a building where the public can enter). I think you're more likely to leave an iPad down (in your office when going to lunch or meeting someone, or leave in your bag on a train) than you are an iPhone (which is probably in your pocket). My iPad contains more work-related stuff whereas my iPhone is more personal, so there is a bigger data security risk on the iPad.

If Apple want to keep the iPad Mini as an entry level model (with existing or lower pricing), then they should retain the existing model or introduce plastic casing like the iPhone 5C (perhaps with less vulgar colours). Plastic casing isis more in line with competitor models. Then they could have the premium model, be it the 'iPad Mini Pro' or the 'iPad Mini with Retina Display'. Just because the iPad 5 may be bigger in size, shouldn't make it automatically the flagship model.

TouchID is so nice and fast on my iPhone 5S, that I can't believe Apple wouldn't include it on the new Ipad. I never used to have any sort of a password on my phone, but with TouchID I don't even think about it. The only time I have issues is after eating a lot of flaming hot Cheetos. Dang red caked on powder.

If TouchID isn't included, I would skip this iPad until the next model.

It's not about having to remember them, it's about saving you the bother of typing them in.

Yes, and a major point is surely for use in third-party apps (banking etc).
I can remember a few passwords, but I now have over 100 that I might need
to use on an occasional basis. The "guess a few letters" from your password approach is tedious and regularly gets me locked out of things I need to use.
