A7X in iPad and A7 in iPad Mini wouldn't make much sense... The whole purpose behind the X series was to increase graphics performance to drive the retina display. If both iPads are gonna have a retina display (2048x1536), then the iPad Mini is going to have significantly poorer graphics performance making it worse for games, which would actually probably be on of the primary applications of a smaller iPad, due to it's better "holdability."

A7 is on par with the A6X from last years iPad 4 which has no problems, they need to be able to differentiate with the bigger iPad, give people a reason to pay more.

Well my work has offered to buy me a new computer and I've delayed it for this Tuesday's event. Here's hoping they give an option for the high-end Iris 5200 in the 13" MBPr. From what I've read the performance gains over the 5100 are substantial. Without that I'll have a hard time justifying the MBPr over the MBA.

Won't happen, there are no dual core haswell chips with the 5200.

Nothing would make me happier since I am buying now also.

Mini 2!

Latest is that the Mini 2 will have an upgraded CPU either an A5X or A6 with different bright color back cover that will be made of plastic instead of metal.
No Retina Mini until later in 2014 possibly in October!

Giving a company your unchangeable fingerprint to id you is one oft the stupidest things for anyone to do ever!

Thank god that NEVER happens on an Apple device, yeah????!

How are you NOT aware how this tech works....? They explained it REALLY slowly- layman's version.

Touch ID is one of the greatest implementations ever. iPad 5 needs to have it.

Agreed, but supply constraints are looking like this will not happen. I thought at least iPad 5 would have it. Maybe not.

It would be interesting to know what the constraints are? Production rate due to technical complexity? Or, wanting to keep tight QC on the production rate at only one supplier? They do seem to to operate rather well. :apple:

If there is no TouchID it will make it easier for me to pass on it. It will be a breath of fresh air to not have the tech nerd in me craving to update to the new iPad. While I really want. Retina iPad Mini, I'll be able to pass on them. I mean, there's two next-gen gaming consoles coming out next month to boot! I guess I'm rooting for no TouchID sensor! Then well just need the MacPro to be priced outrageously to not make me even think of it.

iPad Mini 2 will get Retina since everybody and their brother is doing it in similar form factor and at a lower pricepoints. To support Retina, it needs an -X processor with doubled memory bandwidth, so it's more than likely it's inheriting A6X from the iPad 4 of yesteryear. The reason original iPad Mini used A5 like an iPhone and not A5X like the iPad 3 is because the low resolution, just like iPad 2 did not need an A5X. Just like original iPad Mini being a shrink down of iPad 2 it will be essentially identical hardware wise as iPad 4 just in a smaller package, so no need to test against a new configuration.

Uh, except that's not exactly true. The A5X and A6X were needed for both higher bandwidth AND (more importantly) the quad core GPU parts which their regular counterparts didn't have. The A7 with (presumably) a 6430 GPU has enough raw grunt to run a Retina display at levels roughly equivalent to the A6X. There is still a bandwidth issue, true, but the A7 has seen an impressive increase in bandwidth compared to the A6 (around 33% on average according to geek bench) which would put it close to the A5X.

The A7 simply makes sense as the retina iPad Mini SoC. The A6X is big, power hungry and runs hot - all three are major issues in the much smaller packaging of the Mini. An A7, possibly running at a slightly higher clockspeed than it does in the 5S, should deliver enough power to comfortably run the Retina display along with the benefits of Apple's new architecture (remember an A6X would effectively be a dead end for the Mini). In terms of benchmark performance it'll likely be between the A5X and A6X but far closer to the A6X. In the real world it'll feel absolutely fine and in a lot of cases will likely be faster thanks to the new CPU architecture and DDR3 memory.

I am aware how it supposedly works for now.
Nevertheless your fingerprint is saved somewhere. They might change policy later or without your knowledge and there might be nothing you can do about it.
Its also a psych trick to get people used to hand over their identity to an electronic device.
This is dangerous territory to go into and also frightening careless behavior.

"Kuo has been fairly accurate with his claims over the past several years, earning him significant attention from the rumor community"

... but has been a lot of BS recently

I for some reason don't want retina display on iPad mini.
IPad mini might not have touch id however the iPad 5 is going to have it and I m almost sure.
IPad mini might not get the a7x but it will have a6 or above. I will be surprised if iPad mini gets the same cpu as the iPad 5.

I love the gold color for iPhone 5S but i don't care for a gold iPad,I don't think gold suits a large (larger than phone) iPad.so I don't care about lack of gold color.
touch ID would be nice on at least iPad 5,but I'm interested in Mini 2,and lack of Touch ID is not really a deal breaker.
what I do really care about though is the retina screen which is a certainty at this point.

now the question is whether I can grab one in next few weeks?

On a different note, I have a query - I'm assuming that this Kuo guy doesn't predict anything but is getting leaks?

Likely from suppliers or factory managers or making a composite of publicly avail. info but not direct from Apple or w/ its knowledge - its had enough pain from the SEC.

finally at last new MPB will suffice, still on a early 2008 Macbook here...

I wonder if the disk sizes will be upped by default to 256Gb

If the rumours about the new 15" Retina's not having a GPU are correct, there are going to be a lot of people like you who are pretty peeved

If there is no dedicated GPU on the 15" I don't see a reason why to buy it, better settle for the 13"

I don't care if Touch ID comes to the iPads this year but if they do it will be one thing Apple has been able to keep secret. At least there will be some surprises for this event, unlike for the September iPhone event.
