So they’ve developed the technology and had planned to enable by default etc, following a backlash they’ve paired back the deployment and made it Non trivial to access and scrutinise, so it’ll be on everyones phone (likely already is) but only a vastly smaller subset will be able to enable it and it’ll go largely unnoticed by the majority.

the notification function is the bit that alerts users that the scanning feature is there but in all likelihood the feature could be enabled, scanning in the background, just the reporting is disabled by the options, we would be none the wiser but apple would get that telemetry data to help the, refine the process for a later date when they can then tweak it and try and market it as a feature again.
it’ll of course be used as a stepping stone to their mandatory scanning of all your photos For csam.

we all want to stop csam, but I don’t want to be spied on like this. We pay taxes for police services to stop anti human behaviour like csam, we don’t pay apple to do that, but I’m happy for apple to provide tools to police services to help in their efforts to combat these things, but it should be focussed and targeted at the criminals not everyone including the innocent law abiding citizens.
Sigh. You didn’t understand anything in this article.

Double sigh, you clearly didn’t understand the article nor the implications.

You would have been one of those in the late 1930’s or 50’s going along with all the restrictions to certain groups as it didn’t impact you and you couldn’t see the harm.

Some people think gun ownership makes you safe, I’d rather not have guns.

How to turn this message that apple now force me to read all the time that ios 15.1 is now available. Until apple ditches this malware surveillance, i keep the ios14. However, i dont want to see a notification or flags for ios15.

Yet you’re the one making all the ignorant and uninformed comments? Hmmmm. Perhaps it would have been easier for you to have understood it had they written it in crayon instead?

I think the best you can do is turn auto update off.

Ignorant and uninformed, that’d be you.

I’ve read what they wrote and don’t like where they are going, you on the other hand are willing to blindly follow because they tell you it’s ok and you’ve decided to ignore any potential future malevolence the features could be used for and you’ve no idea about past regimes that decided to censor their populations or control them using data they obtained from central records.

Every time you post your ridiculous comments it just reinforces the fact that you just have no understanding of what this is, whatsoever. I’m guessing you don’t have much more than a 4th grade reading comprehension level.

what part of that CSAM scans you the photos on your iPhone that you send over imessage you are trying to avoid?
Were you dropped on your head as a kid? CSAM has nothing to do with iMessage. CSAM doesn’t scan messages in iMessage. Seriously, no matter how many times this has been explained and how many different ways, you just can’t seem to understand the difference between CSAM and this. For the last time, THIS ISN’T CSAM!

This article is about a feature that scans incoming iMessage photos. The feature you’re thinking of hasn’t appeared in a beta.

Delete the update file in Settings --> General --> iPhone memory. You shouldn't get prompts if you don't have the update file downloaded.

It’s not “malware surveillance” and it’s not even in 15.1. Smartphones just aren’t your thing.

What you know about the U.S. wouldn’t fill a thimble. That’s what’s really sad. It’s funny that you mention California, a single state that has the 5th largest economy on earth. Beats yours hands down.
Jesus christ... You think of big economies to boast (lol, pathetic) when the workers are living in the streets. What I know? I live beside it and I've studied it for years. I went to an american school with american teachers, some of whom are my friends. Kindly think about what will come out of your mouth before you just open it haphazardly. The one who doesn't know anything here is not me...

And it's pathetic how people like you boast about countries while ignoring or being "butthurt" about it's sad realities. Mind you, some o the richest people I know who live here have homes in the US, only vacationing there once in a while, yet STILL choose to live here. I wonder why...? ?

THe US is becoming a distopia where the richest don't pay taxes and the working class pays for it, and I'm not talking just California lol... and you still boast because of your wounded sad ego... lol. Thanks for all of this! Good info to have! ?

People dying in the streets, Californians refusing to build houses becuase "eww da poors/black people around my neighborhood? no thanks" to have this "5th largest economy on earth" (Where the rich abuse the poor and middle class) ... You keep inhaling that enormous amount of copium my friend. What's funny is many people, more and more every year in the US, are awakening to these truths of inequality and strife. I mean they kind of have to. ...Instead of living in fantasy land like ...others. The emerging socialist movement in the US is truly fascinating to see...

Did the police protests last year just mean nothing to you? Guess you just cover your ears and eyes and poof! It's so easy to boast about ...large economies lol

And for the record, California was STOLEN from Mexico. Along with like half of the US. Funny how so many Californians (and Texans... and Arizonians, etc..) "borrow" so much from Mexico, so much architecture, aesthetic... oh right it's because the US hardly has any real "culture" or history ? Pilgrims who stole and assasinated the natives and locals and then where persecuted by the British and then...? Oh what that's it? Oh my, such "rich" history and "culture".. lol (oh and don't get me started on food and "iconic" (read: trashy) American dishes. Again it doesn't begin to compare to Mexican cuisine. Ask any chef.)

Some people are just too stupid to understand.

If you invent a tool to do one thing, others with different intents will use that tool for other uses.

It doesn’t take much brain power to comprehend that what they have built could be used for harm. They’ve e already had to revise how it works due to potential abuse as mentioned in the article. You clearly didn’t comprehend.

This technology can easily be used for huge harm. It’d be better if it did not exist.

There are other better non technology ways to stop the activities they are trying to here.

Just a default of limiting anything other than text in a message or air drop to those in contacts would stop most of the problem. Perhaps an option to send all pictures or anything other than text to a guardian For vetting would be a better option. No on phone analysis, no technology big brother, parents retain control.

The smarts in Apple must have thought of that but decided to create an ai instead.

Sounds awful. What if the kid is queer, and the parents are homophobic? What if the kid has a secret crush?

Having a more neutral party — a machine — detect skin in pictures and asking the kid if they really want to see is a much better choice.

You tell the kid that their phone will send any non text stuff received via iMessage to a parent/guardian.

Won’t take long for the kid to start using WhatsApp/telegram/signal etc.

by all means provide tools and let responsible parents parent, this mess will just cause problems.

Won’t be long before outraged headlines of the software not working properly and kids being bullied to turn off the feature and then subjected to things this is meant to stop.

Suppose that's true — then what? Apple shouldn't bother making features for kids?

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that there are far more kids with Android. So I don't know why people were arguing against it. As for coming up with a solution for the problem, I'm all for it.

The CSAM Detection System would have searched your device with your approval when installing the OS or enabling iCloud Photo Library.
That is not how it works. CSAM was going to be enabled by default. So the only way to not have it search is to disable iCloud photos. The user not being able to opt out of this spyware is one of the major issues with it.
