What Apple apps are still non-universal?

So we got remote and mobile me gallery for iPad both this week. Looks like Apple shifted some of their developers over to the iPad to get these out the door.

What other iPhone apps does Apple have out there that aren't full fledged universal apps? I'm not necessarily talking about all the included apps that simply don't exist on the iPad (like stocks, calculator, weather, etc) but the apps from Apple that are available on the app store that are still iPhone only.

Do we have a list?

With a positive attitude I went to Apple's web site to make myself an account then fell backwards off my chair and hurt my jaw as it hit the floor in stunned shock that it would cost me $99 for a year to use this after a free trial.

You get much more than that for you 99 notes, and only a fool pays full price for it anyway. Head to EBay and search for MobileMe! ;)

Apple Store, Keynote Remote, and Texas Hold'em are iPhone- and iPod touch-only. Pages, Keynote, and Numbers are iPad-only.

This would be exciting if Mobile Me were free. Apple could really eat into Gmail and Google docs.

Actually, it was free several years ago (back when it was known as iTools. I've been a subscriber ever since. A bit expensive, and it didn't always work well, but it's been great the past couple of years.

I'm glad to see the Gallery app updated for the iPad. The iPad's built-in Photo app is one that I just really don't care for — I find it difficult to manage and navigate large collections of photos using it. (Maybe I'm missing something about how it is supposed to work, though.)

Nice, they finally came out with an universal App. But what I think is inconsistent is that they dont use Settings.app for preferences.
On iPad I havent even found them so far, but just had a short look at the new version

iOS DEV CENTER DOWN!

Is anyone aware of this? Or just me? My new iPad is useless right now since I restored it to 4.2 beta but I'm trying to register my ipad but i cant :-(

MobileMe & iPad

I'd prefer an iPhone/iPad compatible mobile me website...

MobileMe Push was great on my MBP, iPod Touch and iPad until this week. I now have 2-3 duplicate entries for each appointment on my iPad and MobileMe calendars. Yes, I do have calendar and contact synching turned OFF for my iTouch and iPad in iTunes. MobileMe is a mess right now until they fix this problem. It has seriously wreaked havoc with those of this whose calendars and contacts are duplicated.

Allow uploads via email ;)

have you tried to email pictures to the gallery?

go to your gallery via me.com > album settings > check "adding of photos via..."

your welcome ;)

Looks nice, but still doesn't solve a critical problem.

How are we supposed to upload photos to MobileMe from the iPad?

Your on a trip, you upload the photos to your iPad from the camera card... and... Nothing. You have to transfer the photos INDIVIDUALLY from the Photo all to the MobileMe account. Select more than one, and you can only delete them.

I thought the new Gallery app might solve this with an "open in" solution, but no go. Any ideas?

Oh, your right, when I goto me.com, i have to goto "findmyiphone.com" and then to "mobilemegallery.com" then to "idisk.com". I see why they keep them seperate, because it's all separate on me.com.

Same reason why 'Phone,' 'Calendar,' and 'iPod' are all differant apps. Would you like them to smash all those into a single app as well? After all, they're all made by Apple, so why not?

Or maybe it's nicer to have them split up by what they do rather than where they come from.

I mean, what does 'Find my Phone' have to do with a photo gallery? Why should they be in the same app? That makes no sense.

... They just need to bite the bullet and make it standard and free for all iOS devices!

It would be a really good selling point!

Agreed - with their margins MobileMe should come included with all :apple: computers/devices, period.

At a minimum it should be lowered to a more 'no-brainer' price point ($29.99?). $99/year is just gross profiteering, particularly with the surge of Google/Android scenarios emerging.

Keep customers happy and loyal, Apple :)

Do yourself a favor and start writing down the list of applications, operating system branches, testing, etc., Apple has embarked on in the past 4 years.

About as long as it takes to check your spelling, really!

Really, how much does it cost to run an advertising free service?
What is the profit margin?

I really hope they do. Though I don't know if the .Me email is really any good, I'd give it a good chance over Gmail if they made it free.

umm...why is there not just a MobileMe App for everything? Why is there a separate app for Find My iPhone, Me Gallery, iDisk, etc.

This is stupid.

Agree. I can't believe Apple programmers would sit in a meeting and say lets do all these apps separately. Maybe they want to split them up at first to get the functionality right but I hope they're working on putting them all together.

Apple has 46 Billion of Cash/Equivalents on hand and no debt....

Apple has 46 Billion of Cash/Equivalents on hand and no outstanding debt, which is a tremendous amount of resources to throw behind projects they want done.

There's no reason that these kind of software updates should take months and months and months.... unless it's purposeful. Letting the remote app sit until it was growing mold is just like Apple to do. They did the same thing with the first-gen Apple TV... The hardware was the same for 3 years...

Apple lets products "sit" so that they don't give away their strategy. Everyone knew that the remote App was moldy, but perhaps updating it would have "given" away the new Apple TV... Who knows....

But having ONE developer work on the remote app... at a company with 46 Billion in cash and no debt.... seems nuts...

I swear, the first Generation of any Apple product is like an abused child....

By the time iOS 4.2 gets on the iPad, people will lust for the next-gen iPad anyway.... Heck, that's what they did with the iPhone 4....

Bet you the new iPad shows up in January... with Facetime...

Hmm, the app downloads all viewed image to the device, so they can be viewed in the future without an internet connection. This could amount to a huge amount of disk space usage. And if I wanted a huge number of photos on the device, I'd synch them onto it.

I don't synch all my photos to my portable devices so I can conserve space. And the reason I'd want to browse MobileMe galleries is to view lots more photos than I'd otherwise want to keep local on my disk.

So I kind of don't get it.

Talent isn't easy to find. Money doesn't matter. Many of the top tier UI designers and programmers simply refuse to work for anyone. MS has a boatload of money and an army of employees yet they make the world a worse place with their mediocre products.

It is a challenging problem for sure but money isn't everything.

Awesome, Apple has needed an iPad version of this app for a long time. :D

A long time? Hope that was a joke... Then device is barely 7 months in the wild...

Why does the completion of ongoing projects suggest that developers have been "shifted over". Have you thought that maybe the existing iPad development team have been busy with 4.2 and now as this is winding up there is more time for them to work on other apps?

OIC, so you're saying that the more people you throw at a development programme and the more money means the job gets quicker? You obviously aren't a developer. No amount of money or manpower makes programming challenges and issues disappear.

The new iPad will not show up in January, it will be a year after the first launch. It may or may not have a front facing camera - if it does, I won't rush to upgrade. I bought the first version because it does everything i want. I can't see myself using it for facetime ever, the form factor simply isn't right unless you want the person on the other end to look at the ceiling or up your nose.

The best combination on the ipad in terms of app/photos by far.

Web albums & picasa. (80gbs of storage for 20 bucks a year)

The app looks like the stock photo app and it even includes the pinch preview feature.

I opted for the 16gb ipad. Have 60gbs worth of photos on it.

This ipad mobileme version seriously lacks flare. It looks like it was a 1 week project rushed.

Whenever people talk about 'free services to replace MobileMe' with, they come up with long lists of things like Dropbox and so on.

The online gallery function is one thing, however, that I've never seen replicated nearly half as well as Apple does it. It's the one thing that really keeps me paying for MobileMe every year. I probably could replace everything else it does with free services, but not this.

I agree that Apple's MobileMe photo gallery is by far the best implementation of an online photo gallery that I have ever seen. As for replacing MobileMe's many other features with free alternatives: Yes, one can get most of MobileMe's features for free, but certainly not all in one place. When you add the convenience factor, MobileMe is easily worth the yearly fee.

Agree, this is what I'm going to do also with the iPhone. Is there a picasa app from Google or are you referring to iPicasso?
