The problem is it doesn’t make sense why they would care if user use it while changing? Why even change it from AA battery you change once a year to charge for 5min a month?

And putting the port on the underside? The older version at least you could replace the battery and as wireless charging function in its place. Nothing was gained with the new one
“Simplicity” I guess. Use your phone charger instead of going to the store to buy batteries.

I think was design decision - a charging port would have changed the lines, so putting it underneath preserved the overall look; not some attempt to prevent its use while charging.

Less waste? Not having to search for AA's? Less complaints from people about short battery life when they use cheap AA's?

Which took as long as a 5 minute charge and also rendered teh device unusable while changing the battery.

and as wireless charging function in its place.

Which also renders teh dvice unusable when charging, just as the design Apple chose.

Nothing was gained with the new one

Nor was anything lost as you could not tether the old design either.

Had Apple put a port on the back of the mouse people would be adding the design to the list because of the mouse's butt hole...

Probably the most likely option, I still believe it could have been made a few mm thicker to allow a cable on the front

Well technically it’s more waste, when the batteries degrade you have an expensive paperweight. Even with cheap AA batteries it last more than half a year, compared to 1~month now

Indeed, but only once a year. Or you could install a wireless charging kit to to place it on a dock. when you typed or watches a video etc.

Well apple could have done something similar to Logitech solution in a mouse pad

Well we lost the ability to ad a wireless charging modification

Haha true that, but they could have used the opportunity to make it more ergonomically designed or ad mgsafe like function such as the Apple Pencil 2 works on the side.
Because honestly it feels as intelligent as charging the Apple Pencil 1

To give apple the benefit of the doubt, I think of the dumb Mac related design decisions lately (other than the butterfly keyboard and Touch Bar fiascos) have been due to Intel CPU performance promises/failing to deliver.

Clearly if you consider M1 type power consumption/heat output being available from intel in say 2016 - the designs make at least slightly more sense than they ended up. But intel screwed the pooch and what ended up being delivered was much hotter than anticipated/promised I suspect.

Yea, that's the bad byproduct of the smaller, thinner design - Earpods, Mice, etc. will become trash once their non-replaceable batteries stop holding a charge.

Perhaps, but that is so Un-Apple that I doubt they would do it. Their's would have a rechargeable battery, be paper thin, cost an arm and a leg, and probably have a lightening port underneath...

This list should be called "Other than the Touch Bar, what are Apple's OTHER Most Questionable..."

The TouchBar has got to be in the Top 3 (I'd argue #2 just below Butterfly Keyboards)

The touchbar was one of those things that some people liked and otehrs idn't. Apple clearly decided it was not worth moving forward to new Macs. I thought they should have added the Touchbar above the function keys, not replace them, and make it fully programable. That way you keep physical function keys as well as have a programable virtual key set.

A few weeks ago I went to my local Apple reseller and bought a gender changer for my Apple Pencil 1 for a few bucks. It's an unofficial Apple article. I can highly recommend it to everyone with a 1st generation Apple pencil.
Is this the same as the adapter that comes with the pencil?

Now that the touchbar has been added I think it's important to highlight that Apple's biggest mistake was replacing the function keys. IMO that was the biggest crime because you literally took away many keys that people could access without having to look down on the keyboard for a feature that one of it's biggest selling points was the fact that you could now insert emojis quicker.

If they would have just added the touchbar and kept the function keys it might still be around.

One difference being that Phil Schiller said that, but Steve Jobs never did (he said, or wrote rather, “just avoid holding it that way”, if I recall). So the latter is not really quote.
What’s wrong with Mac Pro

Form over function? Apple's hatred of "unsightly" ports springs to mind
Apple’s hatred of pixels in 2013 as well (ios7)…once Jony had rid the house of carpeted toilet seat covers, console television sets, boxes of stale cereal, and wall-mounted dial phone around 2012, he couldn’t stop himself and started removing frames around pictures on the wall, interior doors, and all the electric outlets and switches on the wall.

How about the pointless and detrimental thinness of the current iMac? No more integrated power brick, too thin to cool a "Pro" chip, not enough depth for ports such as Ethernet, limited space for speakers, had to keep the chin as the only way to provide sufficient internal space, etc. Add no fan as standard, and no height adjustable stand as continued complaints too. Also, no black bezel option???

In my own opinion, the “hate” toward the Magic Mouse 2 is overblown. None of my accessories or tools can be used while charging. In fact other than the laptops, iPhones and iPads, every chargeable device/accessory I have is either charged or used…but not both (simultaneously).

When a company takes a product into a different direction and/or changes its overall mindset previous “fans” of said product or company can feel somewhat betrayed and even angry.

A lot of the “hate” and vitriol directed against the current iMac is a fair example. Apple has chosen to focus the iMac at a perhaps narrower market and consequently leaving a number of fans of the former large iMac on the sidelines. For someone, like me, who has long used the ‘smaller” iMac the current version is a significant upgrade in size and performance. But fans of the larger iMac might feel kicked in the ass.

I understand this feeling. I have long been a fan of Volkswagens. I appreciated their overall design mindset. And I saw Volkswagens as more affordable alternatives to BMW’s “ultimate driving machines.” But BMW has long abandoned that mindset to chase market share and Volkswagen has become largely a “me-too” SUV manufacturer, at least in North America. The fun and enthusiasm is gone—and, somewhat irrationally, I feel betrayed having been a VW fan for so long.

And don’t get me started on the 2024 Ford Mustang—Yeesh!

I don't think they're changing much. I mean, it's almost certainly going to have the same big touchscreen, maybe faster charging, not sure if they're going to be switching charge ports to the Tesla one yet. I'm just hoping prices start coming down to reasonable on the used ones, I really want one.

Or did you mean the ICE junk? Meh, don't care, never buying another ICE car again.

I mean, I can work with my MX Master mouse charged or not, and when it’s out of charge, I plug it in and keep going. It’s kind of ridiculous that the apple mouse can’t do that. Same with the v1 Apple Pencil. Just stupid designs.

As for VW, yeah I agree. I’d love an. iD3 instead of a massive suvev.

The Mach-E is a crossover, not a Mustang. The folded paper design of the 2024 looks juvenile. And the interior now looks like a Kia with stretched out iPads tacked onto the dash instead of an actual instrument binnacle. This is a car for the adolescent video game generation.

The vast majority of EVs look like crap.

It’s an outgrowth of Job’s design philosophy. Personally, I have no issues with how the mouse charges; although I used a cord to charge my Gen 1 pencil to avoid accidentally breaking the plug. Apple should have included a charging cord with it.

I still have a first generation Magic Mouse that came with my 2011 21.5 iMac. I never have to wait for it to charge because I just alternate using two pairs of rechargeable batteries. No problem—a pair of fully charged batteries is always waiting.
