Screen protector companies are going to hate apple
For some reason, both my 5C and 5S are scratched to hell....never had an issue before and its not like I've been any harder on these particular devices versus any of my other iPhones.
Honestly, I think Gorilla Glass is an overrated product and look forward to something better/more durable coming along.
Let's face it - if you drop a glass display (any glass) it will break. I'd much rather take care of the day-to-day annoyances like scratches, scuffs and fingerprints now and figure out the indestructible glass later.
The next iPad better have sapphire. Or else I'm not buying.
I'm not convinced that this is a making or breaking technology that matters to customers overall. It definitely has its usefulness and is an important technology. But even if Apple was the only one with it - I don't think competitors will be at that great of a "loss" for not having it.
Think we'll be getting a all sapphire iPhone in a few years![]()

I promise you Samsung will release a phone with a sapphire display within 6 months of Apple.
It sounds cool and its's suppose to be really durable. It is a benefit for people who abuse their phones. But for people who actually take care of their phones it is unnecessary.
I actually don't see this as a good thing, having a monopoly on something as crucial as the display material will discourage competition and allow Apple to charge more
So can someone tell me what the advantages of sapphire are?
The plasticky feeling of the iPad Air and Mini Retina have kept me from buying them - they've lost the premium feel, despite their incredible thinness and lightness. A sapphire iPad screen seems a bit ambitious to hopeful though.
I would kill for a bump on the 11.6" and 13.3" models. It's not 2003 anymore. It's like retina display on a MacBook. It is really not necessary except for jacking up the price. Gorilla glass is just fine. So is the resolution on non-retina MacBooks.
Lets hope for this year.

Will sapphire be that much better than Gorilla Glass 3 (the latest version of it, not the older Gorilla Glass Apple uses in iPhone 5 / 5s)? I mean really that much better? I doubt it. Marginally better, yes, but so much more expensive.

Who really needs a DUAL-CORE processor? My Pentium 4 is just fine. Pff.It's like retina display on a MacBook. It is really not necessary except for jacking up the price. Gorilla glass is just fine. So is the resolution on non-retina MacBooks.
Probably. But it would hurt Samsung's bottom line a whole lot. Apple, not so much.I promise you Samsung will release a phone with a sapphire display within 6 months of Apple.
Say what?? Please have your eyes checked -- retina displays are much, much sharper than non.
Also, "jacking up the price"? The rMBP is only $100 more than the non! Doh!
