Agree, but that screen is really horrid in these days. The problem is perhaps not the screen per se, but if you have a retina device being an iPhone or iPad or android with high res display than you notice the difference straight away and can't go back.
And yet I still use 11-inch MacBook Air base config happily. OK. You can say this is my own preference. But you know, using computer is unlike you use your phone or tablet. Distance offsets the "uncomfortable feeling" when doing stuff on non-retina display.

Believe me 99% of the Apple Store here in the US had this thing in stock and iPhone SE too.

These people complaining about missing TB3 - what would you use it for??

I don't know about others.. but I imagine being able to daisy chain stuffs, like plugging it to the thunderbolt (3.0) display for ports. I know the purpose of the MacBook is more about having everything done wirelessly, but sometimes, it's just good to sit on a desk with a massive monitor

A 4K/60Hz display is a wonder to behold, so there was disappointment with the 2016 MB not providing 4K/60Hz, when it's been available on the cheaper 2015 MBA. So, unless you go Pro, customer choices are the MBA, a non-retina laptop that can provide 4K/60Hz, or the MB, a retina laptop that can't. The angst is not unreasonable.

People spending $1600 for a device to "browse the internet w/5-6 tabs open" and watch videos???

No, people spending $1600 for a device that CAN'T browse the internet w/5-6 tabs open and watch videos... I would have been happy if it could have done that.

So now I'm dumping my $1600 device that can't browse the internet and spending another $1900 in hopes of getting a device that might be able to browse the internet.

I call absolute BS on this. You don't know what the hell you're talking about as someone just demonstrated in this very thread.

You can call BS on it, but I'm typing on the computer I'm referring to right now. You don't need to believe that it stutters, for it to stutter. I'm still getting the refreshed one in hopes of getting a version of this computer that doesn't stutter when performing relatively everyday tasks, but I'm offering my experience as one more data point for those trying to decide between a 2015 rMB and a 2016 rMB. The 2015 is too slow for me, but only just. I'd let you know if the 2016 one fairs any better... but then you'd call BS on that too, so I guess what's the point:p This is, of course, the internet, where my word is as good as any other and there's no way for me to prove otherwise:) As for "somebody demonstrating anything in this very thread" like I said, this is the internet, where their word is as good as mine, and there's no way for them to prove otherwise:p

Agree completely, I'm a writer and this would be my travelling note-taker, but it's over $2000 in Australia and I was a player until I used the keyboard. Like tyoing on a wooden desk.

That really says a lot about a product when a) someone is willing to spend $1300 for a device "for surfing Facebook", and b) when said $1300 device isn't good enough to (basically) "surf Facebook".

Has anyone done a performance comparison between the iPad Pro 12.9" and the Macbook 12 (2016)?

Actually, I'm on the 1.2/512, so it was a $1600 device...

I mean, we're on a Mac forum. We're the folks who spent $600 on a first-gen iPhone that took about as long to get walking directions to a restaurant as it took to GET to the restaurant. I still remember showing that feature off to a friend, and by the time the directions came up, we had arrived. We still both thought it was insanely cool though.

Heck, we're so willing to overpay, that Apple actually gave us early adopters $100 back because they felt so bad for price-gauging us, do you remember that?:p

That being said, that overpriced POS changed, literally the entire world and future of computing, partially funded by the margins on our purchases. That's way better than buying some random kickstarter music-playing skateboard or whatever it is they're selling. We may be dumb, but we're not THAT dumb:)

I do a lot of programming, I have to use a wireless keyboard when I'm doing actual work, and the keyboard I use only when I'm on the go, or writing comments on forums. It's actually a little disturbing, because if this is the road Apple is going, everybody is going to follow and I'm going to actually need to learn to type properly on this thing.

Ironically, I have to be extra careful, because if I mess up code, my compiler will catch it and it is very forgiving. If I mess up in a forum, I'm gonna get clobbered...

Spot on.
And let's look at the prices. You can buy the rMBP for 1299 and the MBA 13'' for $999.
That's $300 more, but you get a better cpu and gpu, the retina display, the force touch trackpad and an HDMI port for just half a pound more of weight.
The retina display itself is worth the $300 difference, and you have more power too.

Air were great, I still use my 2012 11'' model but I wouldn't buy a machine with such a low res display in 2016

I agree when it comes to 13", the retina is a good option. However don't forget the much longer battery life on the Air - this is important for some.
When it comes to the 11" the Air remains a very sweet machine, and frankly my eyes don't hurt or see such a big difference when going from the retina display of the iPhone 6 to the low resolution display on the Air. It is small/light, cheap, powerful, has a long battery life and enough ports and a lovely keyboard. Apart from the (for me minor) advantage of the display, I see no reason for being of the new Macbook in it's current design.

If you compare the 11'' Air with the 12'' there is a really huge price difference, so if you're looking for the smallest laptop Air 11 still has a reason for being.

Does this refresh mean that we won't be seeing retina MBA any time soon?

I don't think so.
The 12'' Macbook is the new Air, maybe they'll introduce a bigger model and that would be the end of it.
If they sold a rMBA at the same price they'd cannibalise the rMBP. If they increased the price it would be really close to the rMBP, so it wouldn't have a reason to exists.

No there is not if they are spec'ed anywhere near the same. Air is $1199 at 8GB/256, the MacBook is $1299 in that configuration.

That hasn't been my experience, although I opted for the 1.3ghz option. While this machine is not for games, I have found it perfectly capable of all the usual "work" stuff, streaming, editing videos/photos, Garageband, Camtasia, having multiple apps and desktops open via mission control. I haven't noticed any difference from my previous 2013 macbook pro. I actually prefer the new lower profile keyboard. The only thing I hate about this laptop is the FaceTime camera. Not sure why they would even put one in if they can only do 480p. Silly.

I'm disappointed they couldn't find a way to update that in this refresh.

I have last years MacBook, and it is never stuttered watching YouTube. Although I'll agree the airs are nice.

Sure, but the base model is $899
I'd never buy the maxed out Air because I'd use the same amount of money to buy a rMBP or the new Macbook but the 11'' can be a good entry level at that price, especially for those who need the old USB port

"Must wait for WWDC hopeful pro update....must wait....so tired of waiting Intel!"

Fixed.

Skylake processors that are suitable for Macbook Pro have been around for a few months... it really is Apple that is delaying the launch for the 2016 MBP, for whatever reason.

Here, I'll fix the quote for you:

Fixed.

I have been thinking this too.

I can't remember the last time I used any of the holes on the side of my MBP, apart from the obvious.

What is so special about this particular port? Is it magic?, does it lead us to the holy grail?, is it divine in some special way? Who knows but there seems to be some kind of mythical following for this port.

I'm starting to feel left out.
