I like this laptop a lot but no TB3 support is a killer for me. Can't wait to see the upcoming MBP 13", that one I hope will have TB3 on it.
What on earth would you plan to do on that little MacBook that requires the insane speed of TB3? Seriously, you weren't gonna do 4k video editing on it, were you?

I believe that little MacBook is a design statement showcasing what's possible with a fan-less design within those size and weight constraints, rather than a workhorse outfitted with state-of-the-art processor and graphics.

Smaller than the 12.9" iPadPro, and only slightly heavier, this rMacBook is geared towards and perfect for, those doing light computing tasks who like the weight and size of an iPad but prefer a conventional clamshell laptop running OS X (macOS), over iPads running iOS.

This is a tech site. The overall want from the customers will be at least one year ahead of where Apple is going. I'm looking at the massive want for TB3 to predict Apple will have to put it in the 2017 rMB.

Well yes, you are going to need cables from the 'dock' or whatnot to each peripheral - that is expected - but from the laptop to the dock will be a single cable carrying all of those different protocols. Potentially a monitor could be created that supplies power to the attached laptop, has a built-in usb hub, etc. and then you'd need just a single cable to connect to the monitor, no dock needed.
Basically what the cinema display has been doing since 2010 or so.... admittedly you need to plug in power, display and USB separately but otherwise you can leave everything attached to your monitor and that's it. And the fact that this is magsafe makes it nicer to plug in IMHO.

And why not? People have edited 4k video on it, and it's perfectly doable with Final Cut Pro.

It may be perfectly doable, but that does not make that little laptop a pro solution for 4k video editing, and as the sample you linked was done through the MacBook's USB3.1, that fact, while a testament to the MacBook's overall capabilities, also makes a strong case for arguing that, not TB or even TB2, but TB3 the OP I was responding to was hoping for, is overkill given its processor and graphics complement, adding unnecessary cost to a laptop whose intended target purchaser will most likely not utilize the added zip TB3 would afford manipulating large files.

The professionals/power users will continue to opt for a rMBP.

I wanted ... one more port for that price
Not going to happen without a physical redesign of the chassis or elimination of the headphone jack. There's simply no space for a second port as the rMB is currently designed. Understandably this fact isn't so obvious until you handle one in person.

Which confirms that this is a design failure.

That's weird. I'm 25 and edit 2.7K GoPro footage on mine whilst on trips.

Exporting is slow, of course, but editing is roughly on par with the top-end 2015 5K iMac we have at home.

It's a joke man, NOT serious so don't take it seriously. Some people still edit on 2010 macbooks, who cares...

Not at all; it works fine for the purposes and usage for which it was designed. Surely you're not so myopic as to be unable to envision those use cases even though your own needs differ?

Im aware of what it is going to take to include that. It's just unfortunate that apple pulls this crap while a few competitors are rolling out more features at a more affordable price. No, I don't want a windows machine either.

Connect to 5K displays down the road. They need TB3 connections.

When do other vendors typically get product after Apple launch? I'm waiting on B&H to get one...no great rush, but curious if it's typically a month, or less (or more).

Anyone have a good estimate?
