Alongside the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, Apple introduced a $19 "Polishing Cloth" that's designed to be used with Apple devices.

Made from a "soft, nonabrasive material," the cloth is suitable for Apple displays, including the nano-texture glass of the Pro Display XDR. It's also suitable for use with the mini-LED display of the new MacBook Pro models and all manner of iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Those who were hoping to get a Polishing Cloth with their MacBook Pros and who have not already ordered may be out of luck, as initial supplies have sold out. If ordered today, the Polishing Cloth will not arrive until November 18 to November 24, which is quite a long wait for a piece of cloth.

Apple's support document on cleaning Apple products recommends a soft, lint-free cloth and minimal wiping. Cleaners should not be used, but if a deep cleaning is required, a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol solution can be used to moisten the cloth.

Apple has been shipping a similar Polishing Cloth with the nano-texture Pro Display XDR since its launch. Based on the instructions provided with that cloth, the new cloth can be hand washed with dish soap and water should it become dirty.

As of now, the Polishing Cloth is not available in Apple's retail stores, though retail locations could potentially begin offering stock next week when the MacBook Pro models launch.

Lmao.

I’m so glad I got my order in yesterday. Mine arrives next week.

I won’t lie I got more excited about this cloth than the new MacBooks and I had fully intended on buying a new 14” Pro but the cloth wowed me more.

I’d been waiting for years for apple to start selling these. The cloths they used to throw in the box for free were so good that I still use them daily but they’re well worn by now. No third party has made a cloth as good.

Yup, I bought them all. I was not going to pay AppleCare for the cloth so decided to get extras in case they fail.

Haha. I’m mad Apple can get away with stuff like this. They have to literally be in meetings laughing at their loyal customers like we’re selling a 50 cent cloth for $20. Christmas bonuses for us.

Next thing is Apple will start selling lubricants as an accessory for the M1-Max laptops...

Wow. And my screen collects detritus like crazy. I cleaned it not more than a month ago, and it looks like it has been in the hands of a three year old with jelly on his fingers. It shows the skin oils so well. Wow. A little Windex on a microfibre cloth seems to clean pretty well, but I'll bet this is like magic. It looks like a thicker chamois type material. Wow...

Wow, how many did they have in stock? 20??

Monster made a cloth for cleaning TV screens. They sat on the rack for what seemed like years. The manager 'adjusted' their inventory, and then people wanted them, and they started selling for a while. Retail is really an insane business to be in... He 'threw them away', and wasn't ever going to stock them again, and people then noticed they were gone, and decided they had to buy one.

As the old saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted. Who in there right mind spends that on a piece of cloth, any old fabric cloth will do the job just fine.

Tim? Is that you?

Oh you are the sheep. This so just a microfiber towel. That’s all. You realize that right. You just allowed yourself to get robbed.

I mean the cost of the cloth is negligible so who cares really? It seems to look good and from the looks of it is higher quality than the most basic microfiber cloths you can get. So if you like it and have a use for it why not get it?
