I cannot see US workers throwing themselves out of a window if a shipment is delayed, etc.;)

The Mac Pro hasn't been created for common "US workers". It's being built for an elite group of professionals, and professionals care far more about long term benefits than shipping dates. Those that care more about shipping dates than benefits can likely easily get by using an iMac.

I'd be interested to see/know how Apple made that video... Wether they out-sourced it with some specialist software or used something else...

It's great!

As a presentation designer, that second video (with all the black circles) is friggin perfection.

I am 100% with you on that. I find design so very hard and it shows in my UI typically. I look at this simple video and what it communicates and how it does it. Sublime.

The sound is perfectly subtle. The imagery is so simply and dynamic with just perfectly timed music and transitions. I have watched it 5-6 times and am very impressed with its production.

I'd say closer to $5,000 or more. We're looking at amazing power here. But the real costs will be for Thunderbolt peripherals. Pro's understand that a Mac Pro is but the foundation upon which to build their system.

I wanted to name a price like that, but I didn't actually go through the efforts of checking the costs of all the components. When I made estimates I came up with ~$3000, add in Apple's typical margin and I get ~$4000.

They needed to do this particular campaign a couple years ago as the tablet touched so many lives, and so many were already touched by the iPhone for a couple years. The iPad especially impacted the young children & older generation... and the iPhone just dominated/dominates the smartphone market since its debut. These 2 devices impacted the world just as much as the iPod did for music.

Basically, Apple is different now then lets say 5 years ago(or pre-iPad & especially pre-iPhone days)... the company is everywhere, EVERYWHERE.

And there focus should be on showing how these product do enrich our lives with use... whether it be for work, play, education, or daily needs, etc.

I personally think Apple needs to do this campaign for 2to3yrs for success. They have to showcase their niche that they care about the products from inside out, and they are still at their roots @ Apple.

Sad to say, this is Apple's best ad since SJ passed.

I like where Apple is going - Jony Ive, Tim Cook & co will start to make way in 2013 & 2014...

Are the advertising people at Apple really stupid enough to believe that advertising is going to get people to fork over $300+ more for an iPad? The people who buy the iPads now, will likely continue to buy them. But no amount of advertising, of any kind, is going to get someone who wants to pay $150-200 for a tablet, to spend $300 more for an iPad. Someone who wants to pay $150-200 for a tablet is simply not an iPad prospect. End of story.

This is awesome...

I may print it off and put by my desk at work.

I love the direction they're taking with this campaign. So nice to see a company simply promoting their own products in a sweet and charming way, emphasizing quality, care, and human connection. Very refreshing to see them taking this course rather than engaging in a mudslinging battle with their competition.

O ye, of little faith...

Pay no attention...

...no, make that "ONLY pay attention to the man behind the curtain."

The last time Apple did this sort of ad campaign was after Steve came back and "Think Different" was rolled out to stem the bleeding and change the conversation.

Once you strip away the Alabama Flash (google it), the hardware announcements yesterday were "meh".

- Where's the 15" MacBook Air with 1680x1050 screen?
- Where are the Haswell processors for the MBP's? (or -any- upgrades for that line?)
- MacBook Retina...Hello? (Well, I think that product line was an answer to a question nobody asked so I don't care.)
- Mac Pro? That "mini on steroids" is supposed to be a "Pro" machine? Maybe, after you get through buying an expansion chassis or two. Seems to be a re-working of the Cube and I think it will meet the same fate. What would have been so wrong about the same technology in an enclosure that would permit even -two- user-installed 2.5" SSD drives? So Apple doesn't like SATA-attached hard drives any more? Where are the affordable Thunderbolt HDs? Apple may be designing this Mac Pro for the future but it will be more years than Apple can afford to wait until TBolt is as ubiquitous as USB3. Maybe Pro users won't mind spending $7000 to get a new Pro and upgrade their peripherals. We'll see.

I guess i'm in the minority here but this new "our signature" ad is nauseating.
It's a good ad but what good does it serve?

It's clear that people are ADDICTED to their smartphones, tablets and technology in general where it's actually becoming not just a social problem but also a mental one (know any kids w/ attention deficit?). Heck, it's easy to spot adults hunched over their phones while the world is passing by.

It's really not enriching our lives or increasing our quality of life.
And it's sad that apple thinks this is something worth bragging about while trying to raise themselves to a different standard.

Of course, the counter argument is it's not the technology but how people use it (NRA's gun argument). But the bubbly reactions by people here, it's obviously not as simple as that.

ps - my name has now taken on a satirical meaning in itself.

There are two other photographs like this one on the same page.

I like these low ISO shots a lot, actually. The grain, blurriness, low depth of field (note how the product is not even in focus, on all photos) and rather natural lighting is very unlike previous campaigns.
