At 12 bucks a year for 20GB and the iCloud Drive integration with Yosemite, I am most likely going to drop dropbox. Anything extra can be thrown to Google Drive.

I have 50 GB on Skydrive, 50 GB on MEGA, 50 GB on Box, and 25 or so GB on other services and I don't pay a dime.

I pay attention when they have specials, 5 GB here, 1 Gb there. IT all adds up. Plus earn more for referrals. We all have 12 email addresses. Refer yourself to add to your current account GB count using each of your emails.

Start with MEGA - Thats 50 GB just for reading this post.

And they were hacked once or twice too.

That's unfortunate, but it likely isn't something that will dissuade users considering Dropbox's response to their security flaws. But that's an aside - the main point was that they are considered among the best cloud-hosting service today.

Dropbox is notable in that they are considered one of the most reliable backup services out there. Other parties may be catching up, but Dropbox is still one of the best in terms of uptime and speed.

They may have the edge but they've had downtimes and have been hacked too.

Its a good (great even) service but its by no means perfect.

Also dropbox and the other services besides Google Drive can't sync bookmarks, or device backups.

When the new plans first went live, it showed me as remaining on the 25GB plan for $40/year, with options to upgrade to the $3.99/month plan (and higher) or to downgrade to the 5GB free plan. The $0.99/month plan wasn't an option. I didn't change anything.

Now, it shows me as being currently on a 25GB plan for $11.99/year. I also have an option to downgrade to the 20GB for $0.99/month, or to upgrade to any of the larger new plans.

I've got the 15GB plan and it still says $20 a year.
It lists the new monthly plans and the only downgrade option is to 5GB.

Unless you originally defined reliable to also mean features, that's not really the point here, nor is hyperbolizing adding anything to that.

@those who got a partial refund, did you have to do anything other than upgrade from within iOS ?

What Apple is doing here is using a very small 'hook' - .99 a month - to get users to try their services and become more entwined with the ecosystem. Trust me, when faced with the obstacle of .99 a month for 20gb or $9.99 for 1TB, most people will choose the first simply because it's a lower cost option. It's the way the human mind works. People who truly need more will consider their options but a lot of people will be drawn by the .99 deal.

And Apple gets their credit cards on file - perfect for Apple Pay ;)

Fair enough. But the main point is Dropbox has suffered its own downtime and hack attacks. Therefore the reliability argument becomes questionable.

I just upgraded from the 15GB $20/yr. option to the 20GB at 99c/mo. (or $12 a year).

I just re-upped the 15GB storage a couple of months ago, so do they process the refunds automatically???

Yup, as I'm a perfect example.

As far as I know, they've instituted two-factor auth since the 2012 hack (which was a leak of e-mail addresses), and haven't made headlines about further attacks since. They have had additional downtimes, but relative to iCloud (the original point), it is much more reliable. But anyways, semantics.

Please let me know what you find out. I'm in the same boat (and didn't use PayPal like a previous poster).

Not changing until I know I'll get a pro-rated refund.

Where are all the M$ Office iPad bashers now?

When Office 365 was offered for $10 a month for desktop and iPad, people right here said buy Apple's apps once and that's it. $10 a month for multi-platform MS Office is a rip off.

Well, MS now gives you a 1TB Cloud drive with Office desktop, web, and iPad for $10. Half of what Apple is asking for just the 1TB. Who's the real ripoff?

£15.99 a year on mediafire for 1TB

Beat that!

UK Pricing

20GB/£0.79

200GB/£2.99

500GB/£6.99

1TB/£14.99

I know dropbox is cheaper for 1TB, but for ease of use, I think this pricing model is pretty competitive.

Then that would be a terrible decision because it would be $28 MORE expensive and less people would sign up.

err what?
$29/year vs $1/month

it'll be $17 more expensive per year...unless you only plan to use 20gb for one month.
it might be cheaper actually, if you don't upgrade your OS X every year.

Got myself the 200Gb.

Also, I was testing if there was any file size limit to upload and I managed to upload the biggest file I have: a 7.5Gb file.

I just want my Documents & Data back :(
I will stay on Mavericks, so I would like to be able to use the old iCloud rather than the new iCloud Drive. But I installed Yosemite Public Beta, and my account was upgraded.

Now I cannot use Documents & Data on my mac or my iOS 7 devices. So goodbye to my iCloud Whatsapp backups, among others...
