Hi, just reading your response to my response and I now see that my sentence can be interpreted in two ways. Just to clarify, what I am saying is that your iCloud Drive "folder" will be backed up BY time machine; but time machine probably can't backup your whole computer TO iCloud drive - is that what you're trying to do? The two things complement each other well, but iCloud drive is more like a master copy/working directory and time machine is your own backup of this should anything go wrong with the cloud.

Okay, Now I think I may need to look for anothr alternative. I love time machine and time capule in that it jus works and I never have to worry about losing anything because i have a local backup system. Howeer, I am looing to augment my backup solution with an offsite solution -- I live in a building built 110 years ago. If the building catches fire, I could easily lose everything includig my local backup. So I was hoping I could send a copy of my back up or extend the backup solution through time capsule to iDrive. I will have to research this a bit.

Not having an offsite backup for my emails, documents, videos, and pictures (itunes match already handles the music), is starting to weigh on me.

I pay 9 bucks a month for 1TB with Dropbox! Why are they charging so much, ridiculous

Because you get more than just cloud based storage. You get your devices backed up automatically to the cloud when they charge at night. That's huge because if you lose any of your devices or upgrade to a new device all you need to do is enter your User ID / Password and then authenticate (if you're wise enough to do two factor authentication) and everything transfers from your old device to your new device with a few simple steps.

On top of that if you simply don't have your device handy you can use any of the major web browsers to go to icloud.com and then use the web apps on the site for full access to your contacts, calendars, notes and reminders to either look up or edit information which then gets synced back to your devices and on top of that you can also use the web based versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote to view and edit documents stored in iCloud from the same web site.

If you just want cloud based storage for your files then of course Dropbox and/or other similar services make more sense. If you want more storage plus web apps to edit certain documents then, of course, Google Drive and other services that offer web apps to create / edit content make more sense.

If, however, you want a service that is not only cloud based storage but one that also provides device backups, synchronization of data across your devices and a service that also includes web apps when you don't have those devices plus features like Find My iPhone, etc all-in-one then paying for additional iCloud storage makes sense.

If you don't see the value of integrating all of that into a single service given the amount of data you have, which devices you have and what Apple charges for the service then don't use it but let's not try and equate what iCloud does if your invested in the Apple ecosystem to what Dropbox or other services offer. iCloud is an all-in-one service that clearly doesn't make sense to pay extra for if you're not invested in the Apple ecosystem but for those of us who are and who would rather have a single service that "just works" instead of dealing with multiple services / web sites / apps to accomplish what iCloud can accomplish there is most definitely value there depending on how much storage you need and how much you value simplicity versus having to spend the extra time to use multiple services and apps to accomplish the same thing.

I just upgraded from the 15GB $20/yr. option to the 20GB at 99c/mo. (or $12 a year).

I just re-upped the 15GB storage a couple of months ago, so do they process the refunds automatically???

With the 20GB plan did you go from 5GB to 20GB or to 25GB? Do you get to keep that 5GB free?

How is iCloud storage related to iPhone backup? I had to upgrade my plan to 20GB because my iPhone backup no longer fit in it. So, these people with 128GB iPhones are now forced to buy more storage to keep their iPhones and iPads backed up?

I should mention, when I upgraded from 15 to 20GB, I did not receive a refund for my unused 15GB plan. Multiply that by millions of people who did the same, and there's some more chump change for Apple.

You go from 5 to 20. You can think of it as 5 gb free and $1/month if you wish.

Yup, it's 20 total. I just did the upgrade myself to check. The reason I had to check, is because that's not how they presented it at 18:15 into the iPad Special event a few days ago.

I know, I personally feel that Apple seems to be having problems communicating their points across these days, unless they are deliberately trying to be obtuse.

Straightforward stuff like what devices support airdrop weren't made clear from the start. Then they made it sound like it was 20 gb on top of the free 5 gb. Quite a lot of stuff was made to sound much better than it turned out to be (even moreso than Apple's usual standards).

They do seem a bit rattled ... Slow down and take a few deep breaths folks.

Is there at trick to getting your account updated? I have had the 20 gig plan for a while now and although my plan states I am now on the 50 gig tier my devices still only show 20 gigs and I can backup my phone due to the lack of available space. Tried rebooting no luck, also tried signing out of iCloud and back in, no luck there either. Thoughts, anyone?

Can I ask you both if either of you upload videos for watching on your devices later. I have struggled with upgrading DB or iCloud with the new rates. But, when trying to upload, both are unreliable and upload fails more than not. My upload is 5mb, so not terrible. I know iCloud doesn't stream like DB. Thanks for any input from anyone---:)

I'd rather have 200gb for $3.99/month on OneDrive.
That's all? I have a Home account - it didn't cost me a dime. A renewal will cost about $6 per month, and I've slightly got more than 200GB available...

I checked it out. It only mentioned 1TB.
Yes, it's 1TB of cloud storage, plus the entire Microsoft Office suite, which is a way better deal than $20 a month for 1TB of iCloud storage. I guess even Apple cloud storage comes with a huge markup and needs to cost 50% more than the competition. lol. Ridiculous.

That wasn't my concern. I'm just trying to find the 10TB deal so I can subscribe. I also saw some articles that indicate unlimited to personal, home, and business subs.
