Same. Why go to great efforts marketing a flagship phone that's going to be replaced in two months?
Dunno. But maybe that's the point? Apple reports financial results end of July; and publicity of any kind is good, right? Maybe buttering people up so when the new 13 comes out, people's minds are on iPhones? Yeah, that's a stretch. 😂

The networks in the UK have been running this ad for a while. I thought it was funny. I think some people on here think that Apple should only advertise when they launch a phone. You do know that Apple runs adverts all year long with the mobile networks and that ‘normal’ users buy devices all year round and the vast majority don’t give 2 hoots about a phone launch. And garbage ad or not Apple still sell millions of iPhones each month.

understandable take on it but we of MR (and similar) aren’t very representative of the average user. The majority of users probably go replace their phone when it needs it or they’re simply ready. I doubt average users of any smartphone brand are waiting with anticipation for the new phone.
Fortunately for Apple (and Samsung and others) there’s enough of us out there to make the first month of sales for the new model a big splash. That alone translates to buzz->some average users trading in.

I’m not sure who would be enticed to buy and iPhone 12 series phone now when the next one is 2 months away. Unless you lost or destroyed your phone, just wait.

I just bought a 12 Mini because it was on sale and overall I did not think the upgrades will make up for the much lower price I paid. It's a gamble for sure, but ultimately it's a good phone.

Same. I got my purple 128 GB 12 mini for £619 (£130 off RRP) on sale, which would be similar to the RRP when the 13 mini is launched. I also get to use it 3 months earlier, rather than waiting for the 13's launch.

That sounds like Prime Day pricing! I missed the boat on that one and everything was out of stock, but I therefore got a new black 128GB for £599 and I figured I can live with what I'll probably miss out on for £150 less.

My guess, to keep the sales momentum. Most people anticipate a new iPhone around Autumn. If I didn't have a 12 PM already, I would not be persuaded this late into its lifecycle by an ad. 🤷🏽‍♂️
Brand awareness and many normal people will be happy with the features of the current model or are at a stage where they want a new device. You can always use the chance to upsell to the forthcoming model as well. Personally, I'd always wait a few months after a model is released before ordering it anyway (gets the early production problems sorted out, supply/choice is better, in-depth user reviews are available, you can see what problems are cropping up in real-world use, is it better than its predecessor and what value does that give to you, some people start selling at a discount,...).

Why would Apple allow an advertisement that makes a not-so-subtle inference that their new technology is great for taking surreptitious photos of women under the table!? Yeah, your low-light photo tech is great... but, when it‘s dark because of the table, table cloth and woman’s skirt??? leave that one alone Apple. For crying out loud... how is this something that doesn’t get weeded out by the first executive to see it even if it makes it out of their ad shop?

"In the Dark" is all well and good, but how about fixing the orange tinted darker skin tones "in the light" that continue to plague the iPhone.

How about a 15 month old phone (SE) with a 22 month old processor for full price even after subtracting the charging brick mid way?
I know right, wait the a13 may be old, but what, yah still as fast as a snapdragon 888

This ad is kind of annoying.
At least it is not stalker dude from some other companies, or that really stupid one with dongles and wires everywhere when the phone has great wireless earphones and long battery life and you can literally plug it in to charge it and walk around the house listening to music and talking on the phone. Ok, this ad is not perfect, but other companies have set the bar so low.
Another point, you should get this molasses slow surface with a so so screen, because click, I love that click. Yah, that one is the bottom for sure

Not one of Apple's better ads, in my opinion. Maybe that is due to me seeing the continual focus on selfies as rather vain.
Long time gone the funny , clever or inspiring ones . Ken Segall was one doing great ads.

“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

Now it's only
Me, myself and Irene 🙄

I saw that deeper discount after Prime Day was over and was a little sad. I actually bought mine from Currys, which price-matched Amazon's Prime Day for all colours. So I got my purple one from them since it was cheaper than from Amazon.

I personally found it odd that prices dropped further, but I'm not complaining. When I ordered they said they could only deliver in 1-2 months, which probably explains the price, but it ended up taking maybe a week and a half.

Congrats on the purple one! Personally it's all black all the way.

I wanted to return to Currys but their return policy is quite strict. I saw the green 128 GB mini dropped to only £561 and was ready to give up the colour for the much lower price. 😅

They don’t do themselves any favours plugging a 10 month old iPhone at full price.
They probably don't have a choice since they won't lower prices. Many people may not pay attention to release dates.

I have a family member in Europe who comes to the USA during the summer for a break. They can either get a 10 month old phone or pay $$$ far more in the country they live in.

Or in my case, my phone was stolen. I went with a refurbished Samsung Galaxy instead of plunking down money on a new iPhone.

You may never go back...

Honestly night mode is quite impressive. The processing to not have shaky blurry pictures while exposing for seconds in the dark while holding it in your hand is well done.

It has its limitations, for example when there's something very close to the camera while you're taking a picture of something far away, the highlights (like the cockpit lights in a car) get a little bit smeared because they're moving much more quickly than the rest from the camera's perspective. Also you lose the Live Photo aspect of it.
