Several recent rumors have pointed to an all-new official Apple accessory arriving with the iPhone 17 lineup, and it looks like samples of the product have leaked ahead of Apple’s “Awe dropping” event on Tuesday.

Apple will offer a crossbody strap designed to work with the company's upcoming TechWoven cases for iPhone 17, and leaker Sonny Dickson has shared images of one of the straps in a vibrant orange color. The crossbody strap will reportedly have a flexible metal core and use magnetic attachment points, allowing users to easily connect and disconnect the accessory as needed.

Based on previous leaks, new TechWoven cases – replacing Apple's discontinued FineWoven line – will feature small attachment holes in the bottom corners specifically for looping through Apple's new strap. The accessory also apparently features a unique design that makes it magnetic along its entire length.

The latest leak tallies with earlier rumors from Majin Bu and fellow leaker DuanRui, who have shared CAD drawings and case clones showing similar attachment points on official iPhone 17 cases.

It won't be the first time Apple has leaned into wearable accessories for its products. The AirPods Pro 2 charging case includes a lanyard cutout, and the fifth-generation iPod touch featured built-in attachment hardware for similar purposes.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 17 Pro models in a new orange color, so the strap we see here could also be alluding to it. Stay tuned for in-depth coverage of Apple's announcements this week.

Yes, because hanging a grand worth of tech around your neck to make it easier to snatch and grab is so considerate.

Outside the US and UK these things are common as muck. They are much harder to steal on a strap than straight out of your hand or pocket. In some places they will just punch you in the face and in the confusion your phone goes. It acts as an actual viable deterrent.

Does this strap mean the phone is gonna bend like the iPhone 6 did if you put it in your back pocket?
More like an admission that phones today are too big when the idea was supposed to be to carry it in a pocket. No pocket big enough? I guess it's time to get a strap like a purse.

Also: Orange strip with fasteners at the end. Oooooo. Truly a special leak of a never-seen-before product. You would never mistake this as a strap made for a hundred other things.

This is begging for only one thing: an increase in strong-arm robberies. It's a literal "HEY, look at me!" beacon alerting all the stick-up kids that you have an iPhone… come and take it! This harkens back to when the first-gen iPod’s signature was its white earbuds, and people were being robbed left and right.

The double-edged sword of the uniquely-styled product. Consumers use it to show of their sense of taste (and financial status in some cases), but it also makes them a target for crime. Kinda like wearing gold chains in the hood once upon a time.

People who are inclined to use force when stealing will use it anyway - regardless of how you hold your phone. I have used one of these while travelling and in my home country on occasion if I’ve left the house with only my phone, and they’re great; no need to constantly hold my phone, shove it in my bra or put it on a random surface if I’m shopping (which is a common issue for women seeing as clothing designers don’t always like to give us pockets), and it means I drop my phone less often too.

Stupid question posed in the tweet/X post embedded in the post!

On the one hand: get out more and see what people do. Different people use different accessories according to their preferences, fashion, local or regional trends etc. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not a thing somewhere else on Earth.

On the other hand: the question doesn’t really make sense, as this product pictured isn’t even released yet by Apple - so by definition that particular item can’t be in use.

Do PeOPle AcTUaLLy UsE ThESe?
Yes you silly person, they do.
Maybe in his little world they do not, but here in Europe that is a popular way of carrying the phone among young women. They seem to love to wear their phone like a handbag.

An orange so vibrant, it inspires awe.
Ideas so fresh, innovative, and raw.
The next big thing, so stand and clap,
behold, the cross body strap.
Not enough? Want more to see?
Pro AirPods numbering three.
We promised you awe, no need to pause,
so if you would, applause, applause.
Many strides taken, and gambles took
Ladies and Gentleman, Mr. TimApple Cook.

Agreed. These crossbody cases have been popular in China since, what, iPhone 12? It works well because the economy is fully digital and there's no need to carry cash or ID. Girls just grab this and go out.

Wearing this in the U.S.? They'll mug you, take your wallet to commit identity fraud, steal your car keys, and drive off.

I'm not too interested in a neck strap (and especially one with some sort of magnetic attachment), but if they've made a way to attach those, that (probably) means we also can attach wrist straps, and I've been using that (mostly while traveling) for a while with my 15 pro.

The only issue I've had with that is that the attachment to for the strap (that tucks into my case) blocks the USB-C port. Not a big problem since I use a mag safe charger 99% of the time, but it tends to accumulate dust and stuff in and around the port.

So, a smoother attachment method would be appreciated.

100% - I've been in Italy all summer and noticed before the iPhones strap rumors how many people I see with their phones on a strap. It makes a lot of sense when you're wearing beach/summer clothes that often don't have a lot of pocket space or have a tighter fitting fashion.

To be fair I live in London and the only people who are getting things snatched are the morons who stand at a bus stop right at the front of the road with their phones out, or the ones who carry them in the back pocket.

There are just a lot of those morons!
The actual morons are the ones snatching them off course, not the people who just use their stuff as they like!
