But the Neo is not smaller. Volumetrically, the Neo is about 5% larger than the 13" MBA. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to love about the Neo given the price, but it is not the smaller form factor.

Now if Apple were to relaunch the 11" MBA but with a retina screen and an A18 SoC....
Volumetrically, yes, but it’s much more handy to carry. The footprint is smaller than the Air, the Air’s screen once I open it, it’s just too big, it even hides part of my monitor beneath. Using the Neo in the lap is much more confortable, the Air having a bigger footprint, seems like it’s easier to drop.

Believe me, I don’t care that much about the price, and performance wise it’s quite limited for me. But I just love its body and shape, even if that means it’s thicker.

It would be an issue for those really wanting an oled air, if you're one of those people, then yea, maybe not the time to upgrade unless your old Mac is really on its last legs, but for me personally, for what I use my MacBook for, I could care less if it got a better screen. I find the screen on mine quite nice and very good quality. I went from the m2 to m5 because I can see price hikes coming in the near future, especially if they do end up doing those upgrades to the air, I highly doubt they would keep the same price as they do now.

So I rather get the latest and greatest now while the prices remained steady and now hold out much longer for things to stabilize eventually and hopefully by then, if the air got some meaningful upgrades, they will no longer cost a kidney to obtain lol
I mean that's fair enough, pretty sure the panel on the MBA is the same as the one on the pre-M series Pros as well. In any case, i'm definitely going to pick up an M5 MacBook this year, then I'll be good for years and won't worry about prices going up in 27/28.

The M5 MacBook Air is an awesome machine with an awesome processor, and awesome display.

However, since I tried the MacBook Neo, I’m in love with the smaller form factor. Not with the trackpad, and definitely not with the SoC that powers it, but such a compact body is really nice.

I know it’s not possible or economically viable for Apple to put an M5 inside the Neo, and I know that’s not going to happen, but for me it would be the ideal machine.

Hopefully, once the Neo gets the A19 Pro, it will have a better balance between specs, size and price.
It would be kind of cool to have a Neo Pro that has an M series chip, but binned such that it has fewer cores than the regular M chip, but more than the A chip so it functionally falls between the A series and M series. But whether that makes any sense really depends on how many chips are defective to that level to make it worth it.

Correct, actually a bit better than pre M pro series from what i seen as pre M pro series supported "millions" of colours where as the new airs support a billion.

And exactly why i went with an M5 now than later on, don't want to have to worry about price increases, plus my M2 still fetched a good value as it shares the same design as the current airs. Values will definitely drop on this current design for resale when they do push out a redesign. So just made the most sense

Good discount. MacBook Air is a great computer. I have the 15" M4. Think there will be more discounts in the future.

I’m confused… they’re not identical, but they’re soooo close to the same size that I can’t really understand that being a basis to get the Neo.

Maybe it’s something subjective, but I’m not the only one that points this “put it under your arm and go” feeling of the Neo. And the robustness.

However, no, I’m not getting the Neo now. I’ll probably wait until the second or third gen.

Have to thank those workers who are making barely enough to survive and have a miserable life so we can buy our MacBooks cheaper. Seems like contrary to what we should want in life - only the shareholders win the biggest but consumerism drives it.
To those who disagree with me? Why? I would like to understand your reasoning? Thank you.

Why +$200 for the larger screen? That seems absurd unless there are other upgrades...
The base 15" also comes with the 10 core gpu vs 8 core on the 13". 6 speaker sound system which is quite a bit better than the 13"

Still chose the 13" for myself as i very much love the portability aspect.

Amazon dropping their prices. I can return my 512GB Air and upgrade the storage to 1TB for £100 here in the UK. I don't need 1TB but do you think it's worth it? Maybe for resale value when I sell?

Easiest ones to sell are the base models based on affordability. The higher spec you get for an air, the harder it will be to sell for a premium as its more of a niche market looking for it. So i would only be going up a spec if YOU need it. I went 24/1tb, but not for resale, but for my own personal wants and longevity for holding onto it longer
