Apple's New Mac Mini and Mac Studio Are Now Available to Pre-Order

Apple today announced a new Mac mini and Mac Studio, and pre-orders for both are already live on Apple's online store and in the Apple Store app in the United States and 30 other countries and regions.

Most configurations ship Tuesday, September 22, which is also when the new models will be available to buy in Apple Store locations and at Apple Authorized Resellers.

Both Mac mini models cost more than the machines they replace for reasons that should be familiar by now. The rapid buildout of AI data centers has pushed up demand for memory and storage chips across the tech industry, and Apple in June raised the M4 Pro Mac mini to $1,599, up from the $1,399 it launched at in October 2024. The M5 Pro version adds another $100 on top of that.

The $899 M6 mini is $300 more than the M4 model's $599 original launch price, but only $100 more than the $799 that Apple re-priced it to in June. Education prices reflect Apple's discounts for schools and students.

The M5 Ultra-powered Mac Studio with 512GB of unified memory won't be available until late October, and Apple hasn't announced pricing for it yet.

Disapointing to see a further $100 increase for the mini. With the pre orders shipping/reaching customers only nearly 30 days later, looks like there will be significant waiting time for a long time to come. Extremely satisfied with my M4 mini that I got at $599 and not planning to upgrade.

Yeah man that makes complete sense. We should ignore massive user demand that is driving the increase in AI usage. Let’s go back to the 15th century and ride horseback and fight wars with swords then memory prices will go back to normal. Nobody needs tech progress they just need low memory prices for a middle ages lifestyle.

It's becoming clearer and clearer that speccing out a machine on the basis of "bigger number sounds better" is a mug's game.

Work out exactly what you need for you use cases. Her than simply moaning about the price of internal storage, realistically decide. how little internal storage you need, and invest in an fast external storage solution instead.

Some of the claims of people's need on this thread may well be justified, but some of it I suspect, is a case of buyers being "spec junkies".

Does anyone actually truly believe that it is “user” demand driving these prices up? It’s not.

There might be demand for AI compute, but the demand for the compute is based on that compute being heavily subsidised by investment.

If AI services were charged at a non-subsidised rate, ie, the users actually paid for the running cost + profit + infrastructure build out, do you think the demand would still be as high?

In other words, AI demand has been manufactured, in the hope that demand remains when pricing becomes sustainable. It mightn’t
