Apple's New MagSafe Charger and Cases Begin Arriving to Customers

Apple's new MagSafe charger and cases have begun arriving to some customers earlier than expected, and images of the accessories have started to surface on Twitter. The photos provide a first look at the products in real-world use.

As of writing, some MagSafe cases are also available for pickup at select Apple Stores in countries like the United States, Canada, and Germany.

Filip Chudzinski, developer of Apple Watch band app Bandbreite and editor of Apple Store-focused Twitter account Storeteller, has shared a number of high-quality images of the MagSafe charger and the Deep Navy Silicone Case for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

YouTube channel DerDaku has shared a MagSafe charger unboxing video in German:

MagSafe is set to improve the charging experience on ‌iPhone 12‌, with magnets that are optimized for alignment and efficiency, and the technology still supports existing Qi charging mats.

MagSafe also brings a new ecosystem of magnetic cases and accessories that snap onto the ‌iPhone 12‌. This includes new silicone, leather, and clear cases that easily connect onto the back of the iPhone, as well as a separate leather wallet accessory. Third-party accessories from Belkin and OtterBox have also been announced.

The images reveal a ring containing MagSafe's magnets on the interior of the case and confirm that Apple's new silicone cases cover the bottom of the iPhone for the first time.

The MagSafe charger also seems to be made of matte silver aluminium, unlike the polished metal seen on Apple's similar Apple Watch charging puck.

Also looks like bottom of the phone is now covered, which makes phone color choice even more redundant.

Finally, FINALLY, Apple releases an official case that protects the BOTTOM of the phone as well. I don't know why every official case made for the 6 and up always left the bottom unprotected but it was so irritating. So happy they knocked that off and went back to the full coverage style of the 5S and older cases.

That's because of the additional lightning. Dark Navy is a really beautiful color, but indeed darker than it appears in the photos.

Inside. Apple showed the MagSafe component inside the iPhone.

Give it time. It took a couple generations before they finally introduced the Apple Watch charging puck in the .3m length.

The ill-fated Palm Pre did something like this. Came with a charging puck that also acted like a sort of dock, and the phone would magnetically slide into the correct position when you set it down.

I really hope Apple bring back the folio / wallet cases that they released with the previous few phones, the one on my X has stood up to three years of abuse and it's still in good condition - would definitely buy one again if one's available for the 12 Pro.

I think a previous article mentioned the leather case and pouch were to be released in November, but I didn't see anything about the folio / wallet style...?

Anyone comment how strong the magnet is? The Max Pro is a pretty heavy phone, and I'm curious will the magnets be able to hold it going down the road on a Vehicle Mount. My Scosche currently hold my 6S+ perfectly, and I love it, but it has a solid 2-3" round magnet within the mount, not just a thin ring.

Apple's new silicon cases cover the bottom of the iPhone for the first time.

This is not the first time. Apples iPhone 5/5S/SE cases and 4/4S bumpers covered the bottom as well.

The plastic part of the puck protrudes a little bit so the aluminum doesn't touch the phone. Probably not going to scratch the glass.
