Do you have a reputable brand you could recommend? I looked on Amazon but they all look like cheap knockoffs.

Belkertech or Amazon Basics are the third-party cables (normal or extension) I always buy. I've never had one break or not work.

No, there are no magnets in the phone. Just metal.

There's a post on the first page with an image saying otherwise.

What I want to know is how convenient the actual magsafe charger is. I imagine it stays stuck to the phone as you pick it off the night stand, which sounds clunkier than how i want my wireless charger to work.
Exactly, if its strong enough that it sticks to the phone when picked up, not worth it, it needs to release without coming up with the phone.

3rd party magsafe accessories will probably fix this.

Will someone please explain something to me.....I have an iphone 6S Plus and am planning on purchasing an Iphone 12. Have been following the developments re: the MagSafe accessories and charging matt....I am just not understanding the benefit of spending $$$ on the MagSafe charging matt and, therefore, the Mag Safe enabled cases. Can someone please explain to me what the advantages are? I am just having a difficult time figuring this out..ty

He explains it very well.

I wish Apple, being eco-friendly and all, could shift their tones of plastic cases towards healthier alternatives. If small companies like Pelacase, Incipio, Wild, etc. can all do compostable iPhone cases, this should be doable for Apple too. Go greener, Apple! 🖐

Exactly. I've been wondering the same thing. Do you need to hold down the cable when you lift up the phone or pull the charger off the phone and set the charger back down? Seems like a hassle. With a Qi charger you just pick up the phone.

I must say I don’t get it. I understand a wireless charger that forces the phone to be in the correct position, but the good thing about wireless charging is just setting your phone down, charging it, then lifting it off when you are done charging.

With this MagSafe charger, it looks small and like it’ll go with your phone wherever you take it. This defeats the whole “untethered” feeling that wireless charging is supposed to bring. How is this any better than plugging your phone into a wired charger, besides that it’s easier to start charging? But the downside is that the wireless is less efficient and worse for the battery.

I just don’t get it. It really seems like this is preparing people for a portless iPhone.

Im confused. do you need the case to use the magsafe charger or can it connect directly to the phone?

Finally, FINALLY, Apple releases an official case that protects the BOTTOM of the phone as well. I don't know why every official case made for the 6 and up always left the bottom unprotected but it was so irritating. So happy they knocked that off and went back to the full coverage style of the 5S and older cases.

Yes.
The iPhone 5 full coverage case reminded me the design fail with this adapter.
It will not plug into the phone with the case on. 🤣
Keep in mind that the lightning port was new.

If charges twice as fast for one. You could attach the MagSafe to the desk.

I see one problem with this MagSafe puck if it's on a desk, the cable protruding out on the wrong side, shame Apple didn't think of this, it should've been possible to somehow turn the base 180 degrees or even in 90 degrees steps.
