As well as robbing the Artists that take the time to make the music.

AM and FM radio must be robbing from artists too since I can listen to their music for free. And while we're at it, let's include the artists of the tv shows I can pick up and watch for free with my OTA antenna.

* FYI: I support artists I like by buying their music (on CD and vinyl because I prefer to own not rent/license the music) and going to see them in concert.

With Iovine behind this, perhaps it has a chance. Time will tell if Apple can lure away Spotify and Pandora users. It's all about the music, and if Apple can't secure enough deals then no one will pay more money for less choice. I'll be very curious to see what (if anything) happens to iTunes Match when this service debuts.

The reason I don't have an iTunes library of music today is because over the years with upgrading computers or computers breaking, I've backed up the music I ripped from CDs, but it's all over the place--or possibly not backed up, who knows. I have too many hard drives with stuff to look through it. When I started using Spotify my library grew. When I upgrade computers or a computer breaks and I use another one, everything is there as soon as I log-in. When I have to send my MBP in for repairs to Apple, I can log into Spotify on the Web on my $149 ChromeBook or on my iPhone. If Apple wants a chance at me switching, they will need a web-based service. Creating playlists that are associated with your account and can go onto any device is the best feature of Spotify to me. I also only pay $4.99 for the student version of Spotify. I love it. They would need to do something more than just matching Spotify, and I don't see how they can, especially at $4.99 a month.

I'm going to wait to see what sort of cut Apple will pay musicians. I already know Spotify pays micro-peanuts, which is why I refuse to support that service. Hopefully Apple will take the high road and pay a decent per-play royalty.

As a user of mog which became beats, i have been looking forward to this ever since apple made the Beats purchase. I can see the service being called iTunes music, and having radio be the free portion of it in the way spotify has the free portion of their service. The only issue i see is the catalog parity between what is available to purchase on in iTunes currently and what is available on beats to stream. If they have complete catalog parity between the two then it will make apples music offering very compelling to both users and music oweners. You can use iTunes radio for free, pay 9.99+ to stream all of the music and if you really like the song or just want to support the artist buy the track as one already does now all within the same application. And to pull users to their service offer exclusive albums first possibly having to purchase the album for the first week or two then have it be available to stream.

Why you don't just listen to the music for own enjoyment rather than being worried about who gets paid what amount? Do you honestly think the musicians really care that much about you? Plus there's more to it than just what they get paid from Apple. Just getting their music heard opens doors for them to many more opportunities. You're looking at it in a very narrow way.

From what I've been told, no modern artist that's signed to a record label has made a ton of money strictly off music sales (physical media, paid downloads, or streaming). They make the vast majority of their money when people go to a concert and buy merchandise.

No thanks. I'll stick with Spotify and listen to it on pretty much every single device on the planet. Not interested in Apple's restrictions.

Very Excited for WWDC. I use iTunes Radio to discover new music, but still buy my music. Will see if they can convince me to rent music. In reality, I am more excited to see what Apple does with the Apple TV. Oh and did I hear an iPad Pro? What about a keyboard cover? And will HomeKit actually deliver a year later?

What a moronic response. Spotify does nothing to rob the artists. That's all on the music labels. And guess what, Apple superfan, Apple isn't going to be giving more money to the artists than Spotify either.

sounds like a big gamble but I think apple is betting that the days of free streams is ending. while spotify and pandora are offering it right now, I think the music companies are going to pull this come renewal time. they're just not benefiting from it.

no deals yet in places but supposed to debut next week???

however i am fine with Spotify Premium for 5€ as a student anyway.

i am surprised it took Apple so long to jump on board. very late to the party

I doubt it'll be finalised before iOS 9 "in the fall"

Apple are quite late to this party. I'll stick with my £4.99/month Spotify subscription unless Apple's version is significantly better. Spotify, on the whole, is very good: I especially like their app on the PS4 which means I can listen to music whilst playing games.

I'll continue with Spotify.

I'm sure many other Spotify users will too. It's a good service.

But Spotify only has 60 million users (and of those... only 15 million who actually pay for the service)

So perhaps Apple is targeting the 500+ million people who have never used any streaming service at all. The market for new streaming customers is ripe for the picking.

You're not alone... there are lots of people saying "I'm not gonna switch"

Well maybe this announcement isn't about you :)
