Same here, I don't like a 2-monitor setup either. So what to do if you need more real estate than one display can provide? Easy: Three monitors -- a main central monitor plus one on either side. Since your eyes are mostly on the central monitor you can get by with lower-cost side-monitors.

Though my ideal is to be enwrapped by three 43" 8k Retina displays....
Actually, what I'd really like is even higher dpi, say 300 dpi, and then to use 3x scaling—if Apple ever offers the ability to do that.

yes, three monitors solved, but surprise! $4,800, even that I think I prefer a 32, 32 consume less space in the desk and is higher, more high room.

I cross all my finder to apple down the price of the XDR, under $3K, I'm dreaming?

Not fan of 42, many use the LG C2 or Sony A90K as monitor, but that's huge, my neck hurts!!!

I found that a 32 inch was too big especially for a non curved display. The viewing angles were too extreme at the edges, so I ended up moving the display back several inches and adjusting the resolution to make the text bigger.

I replaced it with a 27 inch and have the same amount of real estate as the display is closer and at a higher resolution.
good point, I still can't decide between 27 or 32, but I hope Apple reduce the bezels on the 27, bezels like the 32 XDR.

As far I know the resolution is the same on the 27 Studio and the 32 XDR, so I see the 32 like the same just with more space to work. You can see it here when he drag a window between monitors, same size:

I hate curved or wide monitors, I'm web designer, I hate see the pictures NON flat on the screen, curved affect of see and measure things for web.

I personally just want to see a cheaper version of the Pro Display XDR. I did buy one about a year into its lifecycle, but, when the Studio Display came out, I was hoping that Apple would at least make one without the built in webcam and speakers, making it around the same size as the XDR, and not having as crazy high of a contrast to keep the price around the same as the Studio Display. Also, no overpriced stand that can rotate, please! If they did this, THEN I’d be happy to buy one whenever I’d be in the market for one…

Any chance these displays will fix the slow 40-60ms response time issues that plague the MBP14 / MBP16 lineup?

It'd be nice to get a 120hz apple external / laptop display with a fast enough response time that it... actually looked like 120hz. For reference competing high end mini LED displays almost all have <10ms response time and OLED displays (including iPhone OLED) are all <1ms response time.

There are a number of things they really need to fix:

1. The existing 27 inch Apple Studio Display stands too high, and the height adjustable version ONLY allows the height to go upwards - it does not offer any settings that result in the monitor sitting lower than the fixed version. The new version should sit no higher than the existing iMac -- and use the extra space occupied by the iMac chin to increase screen real estate. The current 27inch sits too high, and which is bad for neck strain and ergonomic design.

2. The 60Hz refresh rate,

3. The hole in the stand that is visible from the front (because they set the monitor too high)

4. Webcam quality problems

5. Support for Thunderbolt 4

BONUS: ability to change from Landscape to Portrait with standard stand.

Like others, I would also like to see a variety of sizes ... particularly for those of us who prefer 2 monitors to 1 large one, and 24inch and 27inch and larger would be great.

Apple seems to be failing at every attempt to make a monitor for the majority of us, and I'm not really sure why.

- always ridiculously priced
- features we don't want (to pay for)
- smaller than most people want, or no larger option available
- single input (seriously?!)
- 120hz better, but people are buying 4K 165+hz screens in the PC world for a lot less money (albeit not mini LED)
- pathetic stands where you actually have to pay to get height adjust. That's a joke.

All I want really is an affordable Apple option - i.e. an iMac comparable screen @ 27" is fine @ 5K for retina, multiple inputs (DP 1.4+). No fancy OS, 120hz refresh, ideally 144 or higher, and a basic stand that you can height adjust. Price of this should be around $500-600 max. Doesnt have to be mini-LED or colour perfect , only as good as the iMac screen.

Not much to ask for really compared to the competition from LG/MSI/Samsung etc.

A 27" display is too small for my needs. I used a lot of 30" Apple Cinema Displays over the years that served me well and looked great.
Yup. I had one of those and it was great. I waited a couple years and picked up a nice used one for about $1500. When the 32" came out I was ready to buy, until I saw the price. Plus the $1K stand nonsense really soured me on Apple's approach to providing display options to its loyal customer base.

27" is too small. Can we please get a bigger one that doesn't cost a fortune?
I'm still on 2x24 4K setup as I find most big displays useless (if it's more than 24 inch it needs to be more than 4K). Been eyeing the cheaper Apple display recently but decided to wait if maybe they release a new version.

a true wide gamut (meaning not just P3 but AdobeRGB coverage greater than 95%) at these prices would be nice to see

Let's compare your wishlist with all the 27" 5K displays. Well there is the LG UltraFine but that's ~$1200. And that's it other than Apple.

Why in the world would you think you can get a 27" 5K display for $500-$600? There is no such thing compared to the competition from LG/MSI/Samsung etc.

big displays useless but you have 2x24? Kinda like having one 48" almost?
As long as its retina its fine. Bigger is better.
The only problem is that there isn't enough screens with the resolution Mac OS needs. Its like other brands are afraid or something.

Even in that promo video Apple shows how small they are. Not to mention the horrible ergonomics. The monitors are too far and too low which will give the user massive problems in the long run. There is no way the guy works like this as everything is too small (especially the timeline) so its just a pose for a picture but totally impractical.

I stopped reading at "27 inch display"

Apple was seling 15" displays until 2003, the year I bough one of my current displays, a 24" 16:10 screen for 1000€. The best buy I did ever in technology.

So 27" to me looks like something just a bit larger than my 20 years old Dell display. I can compare this to the 30 years old USB 2.0 protocol Apple is using inside Lighting port, but in the worst sense of the comparative.

(of course the future 27" Apple display will feature a whole advanced set of features my Dell lacks, but about the size...)

if it would be 27" 16:10 I would even think about it. But 16:9... is a resolution to watch movies, not to edit or created them!!!

editing vertcal photography on a 24" 16:9 screen is almost like editing it in my 20 years old 21" 4:3 CRT Sony.

The advantage in 20 years in "tall" resolution is 0

Editing video is quite good though.

Make one that is less expensive and more accessible

Related: Don't cram a bunch of pointless tech inside of it. Just give us a screen in a nice enclosure, especially now that you've done the work to allow iPhone as webcam usage.

Also, a lot of environments don't even allow webcams at all -- don't eliminate them as potential buyers by jamming an Apple TV, webcam and mediocre speakers inside the thing.

Add a 2nd input also please.

Some of us have several computers/devices.
An overpriced screen that connects to one thing at a time ... sucks

Include a height adjustable stand as default

Seriously, some of this is absolutely table stakes stuff.
This isn't as hard as you keep making it Apple.
So agree.

Many people dont need the webcam and for sure people who is paying 2K for a screen doesnt need crap speakers. But ALL need an ajustable Stand.

My office is full of iMacs and Aple displays over boxes, books or A4 paper packages. Very beautiful to see a 3K device over a 20€ A4 package... Also there is one guy who prefers design over functionality who blends himself to see the screen adopting a very unhealthy posture. Ey!! not all of us are same heigh, or are we? can you imagine cars without adjusting mirrors or seats?? (cant wait to see the Apple car XD)

Yes, I still have one here after all these years. I'm hopeful we can have the current XDR dropping in price once a new version comes out so I can get one. 27" is just too small for me.

Another thing to consider: Often it's argued that, because of economies of scale, Apple can't buy 5k 27" panels for reasonable prices the way companies selling 4k 27" monitors can. Two simple counterarguments:

1) Apple is able to offer the 24" iMac at reasonable (consumer-level) pricing, and yet no one but Apple uses its 4480 x 2520 218 ppi panels.

2) With current MMG (multi-model on glass) panel production techniques, you can mix and match panel sizes on a single mother glass. Thus Apple could produce 27" and 32" panels on the same production line currently used for the 24" panels, improving its economies of scale for consumer-grade Retina displays. [Gen 10.5 motherglasses are 337 cm x 294 cm = 133" x 116".]

Of course, there's more to displays than panels, but Apple has already sourced components with bandwidth sufficient for 5k and 6k monitors. And before you argue these necessarily have to be expensive, consider the 5k 2020 iMac which, with a full computer, cost $1800.

I would love to see this lineup.
ASD 27" current model
XDR 32" current model lowered to $2700
XDR 2.0 7K res 35" $5k

seriously why anybody needs a monitor bigger than 32? like 35? is ok for TVs but your neck will hurts on a bigger monitor than 32, even 32 could be too big.

Yes, I notice that on that promo, the guy looks uncomfortable, looks unrealistic.

Apple engineers - I know some of you must read this forum - you know we're right. Talk to your managers and tell them to get their s*** together. The multi-thousand dollar price tags for handicapped tech is a f****** joke.

35-37" would be the sweet spot. I would not go more than that. I have two 30" ACDs and I would not mind larger ones. The space and productivity are amazing, especially working with multiple applications open at the same time.
