timing

they REALLY REALLY should time it to be realeased close to the beggining of the school year. I mean I'm gonna need one and it would piss me off to see an majo update come out RIGHT after i bought one.

On the other hane, this may be their strategy to get rid of old one before the new ones come out.

Most of the time it has very little to do with strategy. The updates correspond to intel processor releases. So there is a HUGE probability that there will be an update sometime relatively soon after mid july, whether that means just a speed bump or a whole case redesign is a completely different matter altogether.

man, I hope you're right. I'm holding out for an update before I buy a MPB. I'd be so disappointed to buy one now to have them updated in a month or 2.

Maybe since intel is having problems with the X4500, the macbooks will get discrete graphics?

Probably not, but it's a nice thought. With the new iphone's back, the macbook could keep using plastic. If they did switch to aluminum, that would be cool if the low-end model came in silver; and the high-end model would be in silver, white, or black.

its also not like the macbook is the most up-to-date laptop out there. students can pick up a laptop with higher spec then the mac for the same price.

not all students want an average laptop, they want one that is high-end enough to easily get them through to the end of college.

Yes, but those will be running Windows/Linux and not OS X, so Apple doesn't care.

That is why Apple also offers the MacBook Pro. ;)

As nice as it would be to have a TouchBook ( or whatever ) I'd believe this only when I see it. Jobs has said a couple of times before that touch panels and netbooks are more trouble than they are worth so there is a very very slim chance that Apple will add too bad ideas together in hopes to create a great one.
