With this new update that is supposed to be coming in 3Q of this year, will there be a price drop in the macbook and macbook pro lines? Is this common for apple to drop pricing while upgrading systems? If so, approx. what is the average drop?
thanks

prices never increase or decrease.

prices never increase or decrease.

Correction: Prices rarely increase or decrease. It does happen, but only with major changes or if they introduce a new low or high end model. I wouldn't really expect it this time around, but it'd be nice if it does happen.

Confused...

I am kinda disoriented. MacRumors.com says that the new processors on the notebooks will be from 2.26GHz to 3.06GHz.

Appleinsider.com says that that processors will be form 2.26 to 2.8.

Anyone knows which one it is?

According to Intel's roadmaps of upcoming mobile Penryns for the Montevina platform, the fastest dual-core will be the X9100 at 3.06GHz, followed by the 2.8GHz T9600, 2.53GHz T9400/P9500, 2.4GHz P8600 and the 2.26GHz P8400.

There will also be the quad-core QX9300 running at (last I heard) 2.53GHz.

interesting , if this is the case I reckon that the 3.06Ghz will go in the MBP with some funky graphics card as standard ,this machine will also have a 17" monitor (glossy or matte choice ) 2Gb RAM .

The2.8Ghz will go in the 15" MBP OR the high end macbook as a BTO option , the 2.53 will be the standard macbook config CPU , the 2.4 slips to the low end macbook which will hopefully ( Oh please) include a superdrive.

the quad will probably go in the MacPro or some new super new MBP on roids

obviously i hear you say

I hate to tell you guys but laptops are becoming more expensive. Component prices are rising, i.e. LCDs, batteries, because Chinese factories are charging more due to rising wages.

That explains why ASUS was not able to deliver its Eee for anything near its announced price.

Enjoy these prices, they will definitely not come down.

I believe the a new revamped MBP will be announced/released some time this summer, for the following reasons:

1) Being that this is the largest graduating class of high school seniors in over a decade and that Mac dominates on college campuses, it seems only wise the MBP be released before the start of fall quarter. Wide-eyed, newly admitted, college freshmen will drop thousands in a heartbeat for the latest and greatest. Especially if mommy and daddy see it as an educational necessity.

2) With the 3G iPhone right on the horizon, Mac wouldn't want to drown the sales of their new MBP in the onslaught of iPhone buyers.

That being said, I think it would be a prime time to release a new MBP, maybe during WWDC but definitely before Oct. (which I hope they do!!):D

hate to break it to you but this is the MACBOOK we are tlkn about here, not the pro

No reason to get riled. All signs actually point to revisions coming for both at the same time, since both will be getting Montevina implemented at the same time. So talking about one is talking about the other, at least time frame wise.

Its likely that the Pro will be updated before or at the same time as the Macbook because if it doesn't then the Pro will have a slower processor than the Macbook. That's just my nonexpert opinion.

I can see that, an aluminum macbook with a 13inch LED display, multi-touch and weighing only 4 pounds will be direct competition to the Air, and the Air wouldn't stand a chance.

I don't think so. Have you checked out the MB's weight line-up?

17" MB Pro = 6.8 pounds
15" MB Pro = 5.4 pounds
13" MB === 5.2 pounds :eek:
13" MB Air = 3.0 pounds

I find it disturbing that the 15" MB Pro with a bigger screen and more power is only 0.2 pounds heavier that the much less powerful and smaller size MB. An ideal lineup would be to have each MB be a pound lighter than the previous, but that is not the case. It shows how FAR BEHIND the MB technology is - it REALLY needs updating. :(

I've been wanting to replace my iBook for a while, but whenever I pickup a MB, it feels like an anvil compared to other 13" laptops out there that weigh around 3.9-4.2 pounds. I was hoping the MB Air was my answer, but that was not to be (no optical drive, too cut down for my tastes compared to other ultraportables on the market).

As you can see, I doubt a 4 pound MB would harm the MB Air market. In fact, it would fit perfectly in the MB lineup. It's the current MB that is the outdated, out-of-place machine.

Montevina Mobile Being Delayed?

American Technology Research analyst Doug Freedman reports the X4500 GPU is suffering failures in OEM notebooks. As such, Intel is having to screen their parts more stridently before they ship them which means a likely delay in shipments.

Whys this?

I was going to buy a mbp about a month ago but then I heard that there might be an update, so I held off buying one. since I plan to go out of the country for about one and a half months in the summer (starting from about June 16) I was debating whether I should buy one before or after my trip. it plan so far was to wait until WWDC and see if a new mbp is announced and buy one hopefully a few days after its announced but before I leave. but now, after todays news about the montevina delay, I dont think there is any chance I'm going to buy a mbp that has the update, so now what I'm worried about is whether I will be too disappointed if i get the current model and the new specs are SIGNIFICANTLY better. so my question I'd what are the biggest and most different changes that could possibly be made in the new mbp.

I can back that WiFi Reception statement up. While waiting in line at Boston's New Store Yesterday, I have a Macbook, 2 people next to me had a MBP and a MacBook Air. Neither of them could connect to the Store's Wifi, and I could get a full 4 bars on the next block :)

Same here. I own both the MB and MBP and the MB wifi performance is vastly better (10dB). Everything I've read suggests the conductive aluminum case is the reason for the poorer performance on the MBP and MBA. Apple has compensated for this putting the antenna in the rubber section on the screen hinge. It works well, but not as good as a MB.

Why this big rush to make everything aluminum at the same time we are trying to make everything wireless? These are contradictory needs.

Whys this?

Because I was not sure if the CPU's were not certified for US sale or it was the WiFi chipsets. But now it looks like the whole platform is being delayed until mid-July which forces my hand to buy the current MBP as I need it before then.

is it me or am i the only one annoyed about no new macbook, mac mini, mac tablet being announced at the WDDC
