No, Visa said they are interested and would hope for it to launch within Europe. There's a difference.
I suspect like me you are from the UK, and if so you will know everything is already in place for Apple Pay to work here - problem is Apple isnt interested. They just cant see beyond the US-of A for anything. if they wanted Apple Pay in the UK it would be here already.

Also - you do realise Apple Pay can be used here already dont you? Of course you need an american credit or debit card, but it actually works here! See this: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphone/use-apple-pay-in-uk-3582358/

I totally agree that it would be great here and support all the scenarios you provided, however experience has told us that Tim Cook's Apple just arent interested in rolling out services outside of the USA. Hardware. yes? Actual useful services? No. Its frustrating as hell and I hope Google do it first in the UK to give Apple a much needed kick up the backside.

What makes you think Apple has no plans to launch it in the UK? VISA has already said it's coming to Europe and the UK in 2015. It's then up to banks to accept it.

Apple really need to open it up a little though, here in Newcastle we could do with it replacing tickets on the Metro, just like in London on the Tube and busses. How about when I buy a football (soccer) match ticket for Newcastle I can have it on my phone instead?, the same with season tickets. You can't expect people to doth their wallets/purses if you can't use it on public transport and have to use cash or other means of payments there instead of Apple pay. Public transport especially in cities needs Apple pay support otherwise it will never take off as well it can do.

So, now NFC is the big thing in Apple's cosmos.
Why?

It might be, it might not be.

This article is just a rumour. It may never actually come to fruition. But if it does it may still be 12 months away. And years away from being commonplace.

I think they had to work on all that stuff, Apple Pay, transit ticketing, etc. for a long time not just one year, right?
Or did Apple decided in January 2014 that NFC could be useful for the above mentioned ideas?!

Yes it takes time. And as you have been following the company for so long you know exactly how they work - the element of surprise, the steady evolution of each successive product and sometimes limiting capable devices if they are a few years older.

Therefore my question: Why wasn't NFC included in the iPhone 5s?
They knew that NFC will be needed in a future iPhone (and "future" here is defined as one year). So, why not including it??

Covered in my responses above. It's Apple's way and has been for a long time.

I really love this company, truly I do. Steve and Apple shaped me and how I think about life and about my career path since I am 10 (1994).
But right now, Apple is playing games with its customers and I don't like it.

You really should be careful about loving for profit companies.

Apple isn't playing games anymore now than they have at any point in the past. Rule 1 - survive.

I can remember 1997 so I never criticised Apple's high margins. I am always happy when they crush the competition.

I remember it well too. But Apple got themselves into that mess, let's just be glad they managed to turn it around and release some great products.

Being pleased when they "crush" competitors? Why, that's a weird thing to get happy about.

But, there are loyal customers guys like you and me that pay the higher price because we love Apple (in the past when they were small and now, ruling the industry) we know that the products are worth it but looking on this behaviour (also the iPad Mini update) makes me feel bad.
Right now, Apple doesn't treat their customers with respect.

You say you have followed Apple for years. But you sound like the new wave of customers.

Every year someone says Apple isn't what it used to be. This has been the case for years.

- Apple doesn't care about professionals any more
- Apple doesn't care about the iPod any more
- Apple only cares about profits now
- Apple can't innovate any more

You get the picture. All the time there is someone who feels that Apple is no longer meeting their needs, or that Apple has changed.

Who knows, maybe next year I'll make the same mistake and say the same things about Apple when the iPhone 7 is released...

The fact is Apple is always changing. They will make mistakes. They will release products that have no use to you.

Visa said they don't have a definite date but it will be 2015.

How isn't Apple not interested? The only software/service on iOS at least that isn't available here in the UK is iTunes radio, even thats not exclusive to the USA. The reasons it's not here in the UK yet is due to the sale of rights.

Apple are also believed to be bidding for next round of Premier League UK coverage TV rights when the bidding process starts again, which is soon.

Saying Apple don't care about the UK services is a bit wrong, yes I'm a little unhappy that we didn't get Apple pay the same time as the US but it is coming.

Apple Pay requires the use of the finger print to verify what might be an expensive transaction. There is no reason that it has to work this way for a simple transit card transaction. It will probably just require a swipe of the iDevice over the reader the same as an existing card.

It's likely that this will be the case. Here in Australia, I can use my NFC credit card for transactions under $100 without a pin. Just tap and go. There's no reason to think the same couldn't be implemented for ApplePay transactions - particularly for transit.

It would be awsome if I can withdraw cash from atm using apple pay instead card and pin

We can already access cash from an ATM here in Aus without your card - just the Banking APP:

I hope you're right. Some of these retailers are so greedy not wanting to pay a .001 transaction fee to the credit card companies. Granted this does add up, but still, makes a crappier and less secure user experience for the consumer.

I know others discussed this but, they want the "big data" on everyone too. I think the fee's are still something they would LOVE to free them selves from. However, it like everything else is the price you pay to do business. It seems that every business (well maybe not every, but too many!) try to do things in there benefit first, knowing that it will piss off there customers. But, the risk/reward here is that not enough will care and they will make out like fat cats. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose that gamble. This is one of those times I hope they lose. I'd prefer that every company (google, apple, microsoft) would be able to create this ApplePay, GoogleWallet, etc for their respective mobiles. Work out whatever deals they need to with the credit card companies, BUT every store accepts them. Just need the NFC terminals, and your good to go. Credit cards still exist, but they are all NFC compliant (chip and pin), and after some time, the mag strip goes away completely.

Funny--ads showing on the train just this week are showing the use of a credit card tied in with your Pasmo card. Seems to be via Tokyu and some card called "Top&" or something. Not sure about the details, but it shows the Tokyu mascot running out of money at the wicket, then despairing at long lines at the machines to charge the card with more money, then meeting the credit card mascot and sailing through the wicket with the credit card backing him up.

Is that something else completely?

hi
automatic replenishment of the value in the stored card, paid for by either a credit card or a direct bank debit is becoming more popular in japan now. when the amount hits a certain low point a top up is done automatically.
