If they don't announce something up to current spec and reasonably priced at WWDC, I'm switching to a Dell XPS15. And this is after buying mac laptops at least 6 times in a row and convincing others to do the same.

Those Dell's are beautiful machines, and more reasonably priced. The only down-side is Windows......but I can live with that...

Headline should be:

"
Apple's Notebook Sales Drop to Estimated 2.5M as many buyers now find their phone and iPad good enough for most tasks"
Maybe for some, but not for most I'd argue. I'm sure sales will boost to make up for the drop, so long as the Macs they release are actually good. Nothing can replace my Mac for coding, as well as other tasks.

I'm not sure even skylake is going to help matters with customers like me.

For the work I do, I'll always be tempted by strong performance gains, but that curve has tapered off in recent years. Next year would normally be my usual 3 year upgrade cycle. But in terms of raw processor horsepower, I don't if it'll even have doubled over my early 2011 machine, let alone my late 2013 machine.

I know there's always new "features" but those rarely end up driving an upgrade for me when I still have a plenty capable machine.

I've had my eyes on the Dell XPS 13 for a long time. Great mix of design and modern hardware.

Don't get me wrong - I want Apple to create awesome products again. I b*tch because I still care and hope. I'm willing to pay more, but I WANT THE BEST. Currently we pay more and get less. My patience is running out - everything Apple offers Mac related leaves a bad aftertaste. At the same time I look at the innovative Surfaces, Dell XPS laptops, Nvidia graphics, exciting VR innovations. Even Windows (10) in many aspects feels more innovative now. I'm disillusioned and tired. If after WWDC there are no radical improvements across all the aspects of Mac, I'm done. Probably with iOS toys as well, if the rumors about the pathetic rehashed iPhone 6"SS" will turn out to be true.

Can't say I'm surprised, they have been under-estimating their computers consumer base for a while now, yet some people will buy anything they put out and justify a web surfing/docs under spec'd ultrabook without ports for 1300 USD. To the people who abstained from buying, thanks, maybe if sales keep dropping they'll finally try to deliver.

I stopped falling in love with the new mac laptops when they took away the ability to upgrade them. I know - I can hear the argument already - well most people don't need to upgrade their laptops, it won't affect the average user.

Sorry but if I am paying 2k for a laptop, I better be able to pay another 200 bucks down the road when it needs more ram so I can get a few more years out of it.

Between the uninspiring updates, no new form factor, high price, outdated tech, no ability to upgrade - people lose interest. They did this to themselves - while having all of the ability in the world to address this problem!

As one of those in the wait queue I have "high" expectations for my next MBP including TB3 and current tech, not last year's GPU. No need to buy if the next model is not purely modernized. There really is no excuse at this point as TB3, USB3.1, 4K video, solid GPU are all available in Win laptops. Just weeks away now.

I'm not sure what i'm hoping for.. next month....
I keep bridging the gap between MBA and Dell XPS

Although XPS is the same proce as the Retina i won't be saving anything, but far better resolution, and bezel-free... I don't use iSight camera on the Mac, so its just wasted space.

I wouldn't mind the sticky tape so i don't have to look at it, but its the bulky bezel i can't stand when u see today's better laptops are more appealing to the eye.... Apple is for design, but as lost its way.

MBA is still good, but just can't keep to pace with whats coming out today...

Unlike iPhones, where the lengthening renewal cycles are due more to the change in business models that makes consumers purchase their new phones instead of a heavily subsidizes contract prices, Apple has nobody but themselves (and maybe intel production schedules) to blame for falling MacBook sales. Lack of new product is holding many people back, including me. If they update the MacBook Pro and Air and don't do something stupid like remove all the ports, I'll be buying 1 13" and 2 15" models to replace my family's current crop.

On the other hand, if all the laptops go the MacBook route and dumb down the machine to a single USB port or something like that, I'll seriously consider whether to move towards a pro tablet or something for most of my family. And that tablet may be a Surface.

Did anyone else see the picture associated with this article, get really excited, only to start reading and have hope crushed...

I'm really more curious that anything else about Apple's next big upgrade to the Macbook Pro line (or maybe even the macbook air?).

I just want my same macbook air with a better display (doesn't need to be retina, just higher quality), slightly smaller bezels and two displayout ports. That's it. This will probably never happen so I can only hope that the new 13" rMBP is amazing and by some miracle weighs the same as the current 13" MBA without sacrificing ports, battery life or performance (not sure that is possible...).

Neglected, outdated and overpriced. Mini, pro, displays - are especially insulting.

EDIT - and before - but but Apple waits on Intel! - there are insane amount of things they could have done years ago - much better facetime cameras, drop the pathetic HDDs and switch to SSDs-only, drop non-retina displays, reduce display bezels, release a decent ergonomic mouse?
How about Touch-ID for the Mac? How about Thunderbolt displays that are not 5 years old with USB 2, crappy speakers, reflective and so on?

As it stands right now - Apple offers stale products with outdated internals, at an unbelievable (exorbitant) price. That is something only Apple can do.
Lol.
As if pc companies are doing any better. You mean to tell me that apple needs to refresh their macs to add touch ID and better FaceTime cameras? lol
Also, the chips that are required for the new MBPs weren't even in the market in 2015, and even now its hard to get holed of a knew qm skylake chip.

But I just upgraded last year, how dare they release new models ;) .

I am not unhappy though, picked up my 15" with AMD graphics to replace my aging Late 2008 MBP 15" . Couldn't be happier, and I bet those still holding onto 2009 - 2010 models will love the new release for sure. So far this has been the best Mac / Windows laptop I have ever used ;) .

I am still using my late 2008 MBP. I cannot shut it down due to a cold solder joint. I have to take a heat gun to the logic board to power it back up. Even with that pain, I refuse to upgrade since you can't upgrade memory or SSD on the newer units. Apple has lost it.

Looking briefly at some of those higher end XPS15 machines - they look pretty nice - with great GPUs.

Now, if only Apple could release comparable machines at the same price point....

I really like OSX, but if Apple can't delivery decent hardware... going to a Windows / Linux dual boot machine is a distinct possibility.. sadly.

I bought my MacBook Air in 2011, my iMac in 2012. The air is starting to huff and puff, but the iMac is going strong. My iPad Air 2 however, is where I spend 70 to 80 percent of my time. As I have said in countless of threads, I am mostly waiting to upgrade to the iPad Pro (probably next year). I actually am hoping to never again upgrade the desktop or laptop.

At this point most Mac OS customers have woken up to the fact that Apple has not reinvested in product development, refreshes and more. It is very upsetting that Apple does not release refreshed computers more often, even waiting 2+ years.

I'd be happy to buy a new MacBook Pro with latest in tech, great graphics chip and more....but apple isn't making one.

This is a real problem, I'm not alone in thinking Windows 10 is a viable alternative.

The Mac OS X ought not be a part time hobby for Apple, they need to have proper and ongoing product development with new models and updates across the product lines for each model at no less than 1x a year.

Consumers are demanding this.

Nuts
I agree 100%. The only thing is that they should wait on MacBook Pro GPUs until the EPA and the EU change their mind on lead-free solder or make an exception for Macs. Lead-free solder is the reason why many 15-inch MacBook Pros have needed replacement logic boards.

Well, I am saving money because I have kept my current MBPr for nearly 4 years now, and haven't seen a need to upgrade yet...

As much as I hate the idea of switching from the set of OS X programs I rely on, I have to admit - devices like the Lenovo MIIX 700 do have a strong appeal. Touch screen when you want it, keyboard available, tablet mode when I am in the passive, content-consuming mode.....which is, I guess, most of the time :)

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that computers just last much longer these days. A sandy-bridge i5 with 4gb of RAM and an SSD, which was more than half the Apple laptop lineup in 2011, is still probably sufficient for most users. If your macbook still works and runs the latest OS X just fine, why upgrade?

My 4-year-old 2012 15" MacBook Pro with a GT650M has more graphics horsepower than the integrated GPU in the current 15" rMBP, which is also driving a Retina display for goodness' sake. And the base 15" doesn't have a dedicated GPU, so can't exactly blame Intel for that one. It's an absolute joke and frankly unforgivable for a company who claim to adhere to such high standards.

No wonder Blizzard stopped developing for OS X.
