The MBP 13" is heavier and has lower resolution than the Vaio SA, so no sale.

Plus, you can't get Blu Ray on the Mac.
Question: why do you need Blu-Ray on a 13" inch screen with cruddy speakers?

And if you intend on hooking it up to the home entertainment system, why wouldn't you just get a PS3 or some other Blu-Ray device designed for a large screen?

Heh, heh, heh, ... and a runaway success in sales. Michael Dell would sell his daughter to the Arabs if he could have Apple's MBA sales numbers.

They only sell for people with little storage needs. I doubt many upgrade to an SSD that costs about as much as the whole computer itself.

The upgrade from Sony is expensive, but I wouldn't stand crippling nice hardware with old tech when it can be avoided.

Windows?

What is so bad about Windows? It runs on Macs and all their brothers since years. Just use a boot menu. I like the versatility of Windows computers. The only program running crappy right now is iTunes. Really. It sucks. Can't playback a video without hanging. Maybe its the air sync of 3 devices? Dunno. It's not the load for sure. Only uses 32bit and one of 6 cores. Ram is there, too.
I definitely would have a Hackintosh but I use a Phenom II and that doesn't mix with the kernel. There is just one thing I cannot get on a Mac: Games I want. I can play WoT, the new Assassin's Creed coming out tomorrow, etc. Mac users can't. Believe me - if I would have the games I want on a Mac, I would not have bought my desktop powerhouse AMD 6core / Radeon HD 6790. And for the ones being afraid of viruses: Don't visit pr0n!

new Macs to the lineup

Apple has a great lineup. However, it could still use a Mac Pro that uses i7 chips for people who don't need xeons (they will cost less) and a super expandable Mac Pro with 6 PCI slots for people who need a video/scientific workhorse.

These Mac sales have to be coming at the expense of some other Windows computers...and this don't even count the Windows sales losses to the iPads. Apple is eating a whole lot of other company's lunches!

Absolutely! BTW - I totally agree with your signature.

I've had 2 VAIO desktops and 2 VAIO laptops before I switched to Mac. The VAIO's were junk. Besides, I am a Linux guy and OSX is a *NIX system. Nothing beats a *NIX system. Didn't buy my Macs for BD - that's what a dedicated BD player is for.

You have heard of Thunderbolt/MDP to HDMI, right?

And why couldn't a 13" MBP be designed for a large screen? Apple clearly shows the MBA driving the Thunderbolt Display on their site, a display exceeding 1080p, so I don't quite understand your concern about a 13" MBP not being designed to drive a large screen.

I think you underestimate the lower end MacBook models.

It's been said here many times before, but I really do wonder what sales would be like of a consumer/enthusiast type of mac pro.

They could release one today at the say around £1200 (approx $1600 (-UK tax etc) with:

i7 2600k
4gb Ram
1tb 7200rpm Drive (4 drive bays)
Ati 6770 or Nvidia 560 (mid range graphics can upgrade BTO or DIY)

I've allowed for usual Apple markup and skimping on higher end parts such as memory/HD but still at £1200 id be at the shop tomorrow.

Problem is there aren't really enough of us to justify Apple designing a special case. Apple would be better off just cutting the price of the low end dual core MP to $2K, which I think they should. Either that or make an upscale QC Mini for $1200.

Windows' search is awful, window management is awful, keyboard shortcuts are awful, etc.

Read over your own two quotes above and notice how full of FAIL you are. While SSDs are the latest tech, you have an excuse to NOT add it, and yet you'd throw a flakey blue ray device into a laptop the doesn't need it because you think it's "new tech."

I'm surprised you don't insist on a capacitive touch screen, AGion anti-microbial technology in the keyboard, and Siri assistant for hands-free surfing of your favorite porn sites.

They would be selling a heck of a lot more if they would come out with a Mac Pro with Thunderbolt. No one in their right mind would be purchasing a Mac Pro now, knowing how important it is for this line. It's like the drop in iPhone 4 sales in anticipation of the iPhone 5 release. Thunderbolt on the Pro will make every earlier model obsolete, so why buy one without it?

That is absurd - how will Thunderbolt make "every earlier model" "OBSOLETE"?

DATELINE: 6 hours ago
CRAY, Inc., maker of the $188 million Blue Waters supercomputer, has announced that they will be closing their doors and auctioning off all the company's assets as they just learned that their entire product line is obsolete. A company spokesman said that their "failure to include Thunderbolt on their computers was the root of their problem and they were closing down because it was just too disgraceful to continue marketing "obsolete" computers." He then slunk back in shame into the alley from which he spoke. More news at eleven.

It is... until it inevitably slows down like a mofo after a couple of months of use.

Windows is trash. If you must use it because your budget doesn't allow for a Mac then... boo hoo cry me a river.

Well, I'll tell ya what. I have 3 Mac Pro's in my studio that are 1 year old. I also have a Mac Pro I use in my home that is 2 1/2 years old. I payed CASH for all of them. So, I doubt my budget is a problem here.

As far as Windows machines slowing down like a "mofo" (pretty obvious you're a real class act), you don't know what you're talking about.... Try making your argument with facts instead of old standby fanboy insults and foul language. It may make you a hero on Fanboy websites, but you sound ignorant and uninformed to most of the educated world.

Yeah, didn't think of that.

I love Apple's stuff but I'm kind of realising I'm not really the target market for Apple anymore i.e. "computer enthusiast on a budget".:(

And LTD keeps telling us we are in the post pc era. What's up with that?

No one who matters has said Post-PC equals Sans-PC... :)
We'll still have PC but it'll play a smaller role more dedicated in our Computing Clusters.

mmmm.... ComputingClusters
