They would be selling a heck of a lot more if they would come out with a Mac Pro with Thunderbolt. No one in their right mind would be purchasing a Mac Pro now, knowing how important it is for this line. It's like the drop in iPhone 4 sales in anticipation of the iPhone 5 release. Thunderbolt on the Pro will make every earlier model obsolete, so why buy one without it?

And like I said, if you want a 20 GB SSD, that's great for you.

Apple's not interested in that compromise.

I don't care about the 20GB hibernation SSD of the S3, but that the main drive is a 7mm 2.5", that you can replace unofficially at a reasonable price.

Glad to see the Mac becoming common again like it was back in the day. I remember in 1999 when my elementary school got rid of all the Macs and replaced them with dells. Looks like the trend is reversing.

All I care about in this is when will the iMac be updated? I just got the "ok" to get one, but it looks like it might not be to far from a refresh and I dont want to get one a few weeks before that happens!

But I really, really want one now......

What do you need to update on the iMac? Where is it lacking?

But, but, I thought the Mac was doomed (TM), and Apple was going to abandon it...

I don't think they are abandoning it completely, but they are definitely reducing the scope of it. XServer first, followed by MacBook, Mac Pro possibly next. Probably next year Air and Pro lines will be merged. In a few years Apple will announce no one is buying desktops anymore and they will phase out the mini and iMac.

No mysteries here.

Then there's that nice iDevice halo effect. ;)

Dude, get a PC then. Apple won't miss you. Enjoy your Windows.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Yeh after i switched to mac I dont know why I put up with windows crap all those years. I certainly wont be switching back anytime soon

Why not? What new feature is going to be in the next iMac that you absolutely can not live without? And what about the model after that?

If "having the latest and greatest" is a big concern for you, then I suggest, if you are not rich, to re-evaluate your computing priorities.

Buy what you need when you need it. Don't look back. It doesn't matter if there's a better one a few weeks later.

I'm one of the happy five million.

I returned to the Mac "fold" with a brand new 21.5" iMac, to replace a noisy and temperamental HP "box" that was getting long in the tooth. I'd been away from Macs since my Performa 575 died back during the Clinton Administration.

Macs are GREAT!

Undoubtedly they cost a bit more than comparable PCs. But literally everything about them seems twenty times better than it was on a PC.

See, I have resolved to only buy SSD boot-drive computers from now on. That's a new standard I've set for myself.

You, on the other hand, have resolved to buy the cheapest thing you can no matter what the sacrifice.

So, yeah. Apple doesn't make a computer for someone with your priorities. They're not interested in that. This isn't news.

You might be trying to make a dig at the Viao guy, and we're really glad that you can afford to have SSD-boot computers, but if you claim they still aren't prohibitively expensive for a lot of Mac users, then you are dreaming.

Hopefully the proliferation of Apple computers will continue to drive down the prices of older models.

Does the vaio run OS X?

Yes, as a matter of fact it will quite well, if Apple would allow it. The OS X argument is really getting old. There is nothing Magical about a Mac that allows it to run OS X. It's simply looking for a piece of propitiatory code that OS X calls up in the EFI.

Somehow using "Will it run OS X" doesn't mean a lot to me. It allows Apple to sell older and cheaper components for a higher price because it "runs OS X"..

I've been an Apple supporter for years, but with the stability of Windows 7, there just isn't a lot of difference between the systems - and because it "runs OS X" is not reason enough for me to pay more (a lot more) for a system that has a Slower processor, less Ram, a junk GPU, and less storage)....

Glad to see the shift myself

it was nice to walk into the 5th Avenue apple store and see over half the floor devoted to macs. Maybe it was like this prior to the last time I was there but I really noticed how much space the computers take up since the remodelling.

Nice news.

I dont know what feature I cant live without. Apple tends to introduce features to me that I cant live without. (Steve Jobs/Henry Ford quote).

And no, having the "latest and greatest" is not necessarily a big concern for me, but I would just hate to buy something and then a few weeks later (not years) something new for the same price is released. Trust me, I am not materialistic. Just trying to use good timing to make an expensive purchase. And it looks like based on Macrumor's buyers guide, they might have something coming in the next 80 days or so.

But yea, I am leaning towards just getting on in the next week or so. ;)
