Yeah I'm really confused about the upgrade fee from Verizon. They say its a one-time fee. Does that mean a one-time fee until the end of time or does that mean a one-time fee every time you upgrade. Being off-contract, I'm really confused by this.
Edit: From an article posted 30 January 2015 (
http://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/News/verizon-raises-sneaky-activation-fee-to-40-dollars)
But a Verizon spokesperson has confirmed to
Phone Scoop that the carrier will be increasing both its activation and upgrade fees to $40, up from $35 and $30 respectively.
Verizon defended the price hike as necessary to help offset the costs associated with activating new devices, and upgrading customers to a newer handset. Exactly
how these tasks generate costs is still a mystery, but Verizon maintains that the fees are standard, and required for the company to remain competitive.
The fees will apply to customers purchasing or upgrading to a new device, at a discounted price, on a two-year service contract. But,
if you buy your new handset at full retail price – or through Verizon’s Edge early upgrade plan – you won’t pay to activate or upgrade.

End of article.
I'll be curious to see if it actually gets charged to my Verizon bill or if it was just part of the checkout process on Apple.com
