Lots of question marks, Maybe apple will bring an application like sidecar to the next iMac. I'm just in need of a big screen at my home that can work as both a docking station for my MacBook Pro and a family/homework machine via a Mac mini or iPad Pro.

Seriously?

It seems to have one input, a TB3 port. Can either of those devices drive a 5K monitor over TB3?
The input on this new display is either Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C. The iPad Pro can drive the display (at 4k resolution) but does not support Thunderbolt.

The question then becomes do either of the devices support DP over USB. If so, the monitors should work.

I have one old one and I just picked up this new one today. When I have them on side-by-side the old one looks much more white than the new one. The new one looks very yellow. Is this something I should be concerned about?

I’d say take it back. It looks like you got an outlier.

I’ll pick up another one and compare... such a waste of my time.

The old version on the left, the new version on the right. Both of the new models have this yellow tint to it. Night mode is OFF, automatic brightness is OFF on both. Factory calibration settings.

What about True Tone, is that on or off and does it make a difference?

On or off... the new display stays more yellow than the old one... I put two new ones together and they didn't even match up... could it be the 2018 MacBook Pro?

I'm sorry, I have no idea. If you can get temporary access to another late-model MBP (e.g. via a friend or coworker) it would be worth plugging the monitors into it and seeing if it makes a difference. I would definitely try swapping the display cables between the two monitors as a first step. LG support might have some answers as well. It doesn't look I would probably be calling up LG support

Also, it's not something I've ever needed to do, but macOS apparently has a built-in display calibrator which may be worth a try? Perhaps the old monitor and the new are in inheriting different calibration profiles which are affecting the white balance.

This article goes into some depth on the calibration process:

I suspect LG is using a different white point for calibration. They used to calibrate to 6700-7000K, but they seem to be calibrating to 6500K more in the last year. That will make the older ones seem more blue (cool) and the newer ones more yellow (warm).

By default, macOS will use the display’s profile and they can definitely be different. Especially after a refresh like this.

But yes, calibrating the displays to the same white point will definitely help.

Owned both the 5k and 4k models before these. Both have been solid. Had an A and B variant of each too. Currently still own one and it's a fantastic image quality, a simple design...... whether you like it or not is up to you, and everything works as advertised. Bought an LG with similar design, albeit lower resolution, to change my setup recently and once you have either of these models I mentioned there's no going back, it went right back in it's box unfortunately. Now off to find another 27" 5K. If anyone has one, PM me btw. :)

I have an LG 5K B variant with the box that i am selling... i know its been a while but are you still looking for a display?

Picked up a curved 32” 4K Samsung the other day for a third of the price and couldn’t be happier with it. Aesthetically beautiful and functional to pair with my mini. I’ll never understand LG’s design logic. I’d go for it if it even for $1.5k with better housing. $200 extra goes a long way with plastic...

Mind sharing a model #?

The 5k Ultrafine gets a lot of criticism here, but for me, is a joy to use. I absolutely love my dual setup at home and wouldn't trade it for anything. The resolution and color production is stunning. In my opinion, the top bezel is barely noticeable.
Agreed. I use two at work and they really are very good. What stops me buying one for home are both DP1.2 and the single input.
People love to complain but these monitors are the best option out there currently without breaking the bank on an XDR.

Note that along with 6K Apple display, this one also provides 94W of power, while previous generation provided 87W.

There are no MacBooks in lineup right now that consume 94W, top of the line 15" MacBook consumes just 87W.

Something more power-hungry is coming soon apparently!
You have been proven correct!
