Apples' product matrix has expanded too much

when steve jobs came back he reduced the product diversity at apple. he focused apple and that had a positive effect all around.

my opinion is that there are too many niche products now, especially: mac mini, mac pro, ipod classic, ipod shuffle, ipod nano, macbook pro without retina display, ipad 2, ipad mini without retina display, iphone 4s. 🙄


i'd also reduce the number of models and customizations drastically.

I disagree. Apple is making lots of money and nobody is confused about slight variants of products and options. There are actually very few distinct product lines. I think Apple should restore its real Pro product lines.

i myself still have not decided wether ipad mini retina or ipad mini or air. not sure about 16 or 32gb either.

If you are asking, I assume that you have at least $500 to spend. Now, in any case, you want a Retina display with the A7 processor. That narrows it down to the mini Retina or Air. Do you prefer to hold a smaller thing closer or a larger thing further away? Then, how much money do you have? (You can spend anywhere from $500 to almost a $1000.) For you, I'm guessing the 32GB iPad Air is the way to go. 😎

What is Apple's low cost option? Honest question, the cheapest computer is $999. Apple has high end and then 1% high end.

The mac mini starts at $599.

are not in the "Era of Crazyness" in the Apple product matrix (the start-middle ´90s) where exist Performas, PowerMacs and so on (computers rebranded for commercial purposes) that confuse the consumer......😕.....😱

Still, Apple today is more prone to discontinue or put in EOL status(end of life)a product or series of products. In the list shared by the OP, the iPad classic can come to be EOLed very soon (I hope not). Also can be EOLed the first two generations of iPads.

Or in a drastic turn of events, all the computers no able to run an update to Mavericks or Mac OS X 10.10 whatever is called can be let on the cold.....😱.....😡....Apple had done that a couple of times in the last 15 years or so.....

I'm guessing though (could be completely wrong) that while the revenues for the Mac side are about the same as for the iPad side, the profit margin is lower.

It doesn't matter as long as it's a healthy product line. Let's say Macs account for at least 10% of their profits, and they are healthy, not in sharp decline. Can you think of any solvent company that would cut that off?
